What to do if the Internet is not working. What to do if there is Internet, but the browser does not load pages

Home / Operating systems

Today we are all highly dependent on the Internet. And when it doesn’t work, panic immediately sets in, your heart sinks into your heels and life seems meaningless. It may be funny to you, but for some it really is.

The user is especially lost when the Internet is connected, but does not work. Today I will tell you why this happens and what to do if this happens to your network.

Why doesn't the Internet work?

If you are connected to the Internet, but it is not working, the first thing you need to do is find the cause of the problem. To do this, you need to restart all devices that are connected to the Internet. This means a router, a computer, etc. Most often, such a reboot completely solves all problems with the Internet, and it starts working properly. If, after rebooting the router and computer, you do not get the expected result, move on to the next “therapeutic” procedures.

Today, most people connect to the Internet by means of Wi-Fi router A. If you have the same, then you need to check whether the Internet access indicator on the router is on or not. For those users who use a TP-Link router, the Internet access signal is marked with a globe icon. On other routers, this signal is most often signed “Internet”.

If the indicator is off, you need to check your router settings. If everything is fine with them, then we call the technical support of our provider and ask why there is no Internet, perhaps just a repair of the highway or network.

But, if the indicator is on, then there is a connection and the provider is not to blame. Check Internet access on other devices. It doesn’t matter what it will be - a phone, a tablet or another laptop. This way you can figure out which direction you should dig next to solve this problem. I’ll say right away that the case when a router is connected to the Internet, which is known to work well, but at the same time it does not distribute it to other devices, is considered a very rare case. The reason for this problem lies in the failure of the router. It's not difficult to fix this. You need to reset all settings to standard and reconfigure it again, remember that after the reset all settings will be lost and the Internet may not work until the router is configured correctly!

Cases often occur when only one device or computer cannot connect to the Internet using a router, but everyone else can easily access it. In this case, you need to look for the cause directly on this device.

If you are connected to mobile Internet via a USB modem or WiFi module connected to a USB port, then try disconnecting it and reconnecting it. If this doesn't help, try using a different port to connect. Perhaps reinstalling the driver will help you solve this problem.

Checking your Internet connection in Windows

If the Internet is connected to your PC or laptop, but does not work, and you are absolutely sure that the reason for this is incorrect settings, then you need to perform a series of procedures that will quickly solve your problem.

You need to start reconfiguring by pinging any popular site. To do this, press the combination “Win + R”. This will bring up the “Run” window.

In the text input field, you need to enter the following “cmd” and click on “OK”. If you are not a fan of my site, you can write Google. After that, press enter and wait for the result. If everything is fine, the server will send you something like this:

If the response from the server contains the line “The connection check failed to find the nodepec-komp.com. Check the host name and try again,” then you need to type another command, for example “ping .8.8.8.8”. This is the IP address of the public DNS server from Google, which will always be available. If the computer has access to an external network, then the answer will be the same as in the picture above, but with different numbers after “answer from...”.

If a ping passes through an IP address, but does not open in the browser, then most often this indicates that there is an Internet connection, but the network is not working due to incorrect setting network card, namely, the DNS server address is not written in them or is written incorrectly. I'll tell you how to fix this a little later.

If you observe a different response from the server, then you need to check access to the router. We will also check using ping. You can find out the router's IP address on a sticker that is glued to reverse side his body. Most often, the IP address of routers is “192.168.1.1” or “192.168.0.1”. The first address is registered on my router, so I received this answer:

If the router pings, but the Internet node does not, then most likely the reason lies again in the settings of the router or in the router itself.

But if the router is unavailable for server requests, then there is a reason to go into the settings network adapter on the computer. But, before doing this, disable your antivirus and firewall, if you have one. Sometimes it is these two “comrades” that cause problems with the Internet.

If after this the Internet does not work, although there is also a connection, press the key combination “Win + R” again, but now in the “open” field we write “ncpa.cpl.”.

If you have entered everything correctly, a network window will open. Windows connections. In it you need to find your active connection and click on it right click mouse, then select “properties.” In the window that opens, look for the line “IP version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and double-click on it to open the protocol parameters.

Check “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain a DNS server address automatically”. Click OK and check the result in the browser.

If this does not help, then check the box “Use the following addresses.” You need to register the IP address from the subnet of your router. If it has IP 192.168.0.1, then set the computer to 192.168.0.2. If the router uses 192.168.1.1 , then on the PC it will be 192.168.1.2. Mask 255.255.255.0. You must specify the router address as the gateway. You can also specify the server from Google as the preferred DNS server.

In any case, watch my video on speeding up the Internet, if you apply all the settings, the Internet should work.

Increasing Internet speed to the maximum!

I hope that at least one of the methods will definitely help you regain access to the Internet. If none of the options for solving the problem helped you, then you will have to call a specialist who will determine the true cause and solve the problem. But I’m sure it won’t come to that and you’ll fix everything yourself.

There are several reasons why the browser stops loading pages when access to the Internet is working properly. It does not matter the type of device (computer or laptop), type of Internet connection (cable or Wi-Fi), type operating system and browser type. Trying to open any page results in it taking a long time to load, after which it appears error message.

The text of the message itself may vary depending on the browser type and may help identify the error. One of them is the problem with DNS address, when it is not specified in the network settings, is not available, or is specified incorrectly. Other common errors are problems with the hosts file, proxy server or registry, and malware.

How to resolve the error

The simplest thing to do first is reboot computer, modem and router. Sometimes, if the cause is a hardware failure, this can help.

At problem withDNS First of all, you need to ping a public DNS server, for example Google. If the node is not detected during ping, then the reason is DNS unavailability. To solve the problem, it is recommended to register DNS from Google. Need to go to network connections, select your type of Internet connection, click “ Properties"and register DNS Google: 8.8.8.8 . After a reboot everything should work.

If the problems are related to the registry, you need to go to the registry editor and select the item in its sections NKEY_ LOCAL_ MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ WindowsNT\ CurrentVersion\ Windows. After which a list of parameters will appear, among which you need to find Applnit_ DLLs. You should check its value; if it is not empty and it contains the path to any file with a dll extension, then it must be reset. After this, the same actions need to be done with the parameter HKEY_ CURRENT_ USER and restart your computer.

The reason may be malware and software, which are often not even detected antivirus programs. In such a situation, you need to use special tools to scan your computer. These include such utilities: AdwCleaner, Dr.WebCureit, JunkwareRemovalTool and others.

If you get lost proxy server settings, you need to check that there is nothing superfluous in its parameters. To do this, go to Internet properties and click on the " Network setup" in the "Connections" section. The check mark should be on the only line: “ Automatic detection parameters" It is worth noting that this will not always help, because... in some cases the proxy must be set manually.

Filehosts usually prevents some sites from opening, while some portals open normally. To resolve the situation, you need to go to the folder: With:\Windows\ System32\ drivers\ etc and open hosts file. Inside it is text ending with the line 127.0.0.1 localhost. If further there are any lines with IP addresses that the user did not register, they need to be deleted and the system rebooted.

If necessary, you can remove all lines from the file. This will not affect the performance of the system in any way, but some hacks may fail if the cracks have written in these files to prohibit the update of certain programs.

The essence of the problem described in this article is this: it doesn’t work Google browser Chrome and Opera. And strangely they don’t work. Browsers start but tabs and settings do not open, and other functions do not work. In general, browsers freeze. At the same time Internet Explorer works fine. This is the problem I encountered today. Virus check Eset antivirus Smart Security and the Dr.Web Cureit and AVZ antivirus programs did not give anything.

The problem lay in the program AMD Catalyst Control Center(Surprised? But that's how it is). This problem occurs specifically on laptops with two graphics adapters. Who would have guessed that AMD Catalyst affects the operation of Chrome and Opera and prevents them from working normally. The fact is that when Catalyst controls the launch of applications and launches, for example, Chrome in Energy Saving mode, it does not work but freezes.

Launch the Catalyst program from the system tray

Next in the program, find the “Power” section and click on the “Switchable Graphics Adapters” tab. Perhaps you may have a different version of Catalyst installed and the program interface may look different. So look for the Nutrition Section.

In this window we see that the Opera application is in “High Performance” mode, which is why browsers do not work. By the way, I don’t have Google Chrome here, that’s because I deleted it. Other programs may also be present here. In general, click on the button as shown in the picture below

The application must switch to a different mode. Click apply.

That's basically all. Launch the browser and enjoy its normal operation.

This is one of the solutions when all browsers do not work. There are many other reasons. So this article is not a complete solution to the problem of Chroma and Opera not working.

One of the most common reasons why sites may not open is changing the proxy server settings. As a result of the user’s mishandling or the work of viruses, the proxy server in the browser changes (turns on or changes). I propose to consider the situation in more detail on everything familiar Internet browser Explorer. We launch the IE browser, in order to view the proxy settings you need to click the button " Service" or keyboard shortcut + , choose " Internet Options"-tab" Connections"- button " Network setup". Indicate if you are using the required proxy server; if the problem is on your home computer, then this setting should not be enabled; if the use proxy server is checked, uncheck it (as in the picture below).

Websites may not open due to problems in the registry.

In my practice, I encountered a situation where, due to viruses, one registry branch was changed and sites did not open, or rather, some sites opened, some did not. To correct the situation, click " Start" in the search bar enter regedit or press the keyboard shortcut + and enter the command regedit press Enter. The registry editor will open, go to the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows, on the right pay attention to the parameter Applnit_DLLs its value should be empty, if this is not the case, delete everything that is written there, or better yet, remember the path, go to it and delete the files.

After these steps, I consider it obligatory to scan your computer/laptop with an antivirus program.

Websites may not open due to a DNS problem.

Another reason why sites may not open is incorrect DNS records. You can manually specify the DNS, for example - 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4 are the addresses of public (free) DNS servers from Google. In order to make changes, I recommend reading the article Configure the network to automatically obtain an IP address and DNS in Windows XP/Windows7/Windows 8 . Just instead of automatic DNS, enter the ones indicated above.

Websites may not open due to an outdated Wi-Fi controller.

Another way in which sites do not open is an outdated Wi-Fi controller. For example, did you use local network(network cable) on the laptop, and then we decided to install a Wi-Fi router and then such a surprise - the Internet works on all devices, all web pages open, but not on a laptop or tablet. TO Wi-Fi networks the device is connected but the sites do not open after switching to network cable everything works again. Most likely the problem is related to an outdated Wi-Fi controller on your device. In order to correct the situation it is necessary to change Wireless protection/

If the browser does not work, the first thing you need to do is check the Internet. How can I do this to make sure everything is okay with him?

There are many ways. Launch, for example, Skype or another program and check if it works. You can try to launch the file for downloading with a download program (torrent, Download Master).

If it turns out that the Internet exists, but not a single browser still works, there is high probability that a virus has entered the system. The fact that an antivirus program is installed does not mean that this could not happen.

Today, hundreds of new malicious programs appear every day, in most cases they penetrate from the Internet, as a result of which browsers work poorly, the browser works slowly or does not work at all.

Why is this happening? What to do?

Your antivirus better system do not scan, but download from the official Dr.Web CureIt website.

This utility is free, it will block all processes occurring on the computer and there is a high probability that it will find the pest.

If after this the browsers still do not work, look at text document, which is located at: drive “C”=>>, “WINDOWS”=>>, “system32”=>>, “drivers”=>>, “etc”=>>”hosts” and see if it looks the same as in the picture (meaning Windows 7).

If not, remove all excess completely. (Open the “etc” file using notepad).

When I have a similar problem, but I don’t want to look for reasons, I just do a system rollback.

To do this, go to the “control panel”, find the “recovery” option and click on it.

A new window will open in which you click “start system recovery” and do everything that is instructed to you.

In almost all cases, this solves the problem. Those who do not want to use recovery and do not have the opportunity to do so will have to look for the reason why the browser does not work manually.

To do this, perform the following steps. Launch your web browser right now and remember the exact time.

Open “control panel”, then “administration” and “event viewer”. After that, on the left side there is “Windows Journal” and “System”.

Now look at the “information” line at the top for your time (a yellow triangle should appear) and read at the bottom why yours are not working.

It’s also a good idea to always have a portable version of at least one browser; in most cases, when all browsers refuse to work, the portable version works.

Then you will find the reason for IE (Internet Explorer) not working, Google Chrome ( google chrome) opera or muff (firefox), it will be much easier to find out.

That's all. Of course, this miniature instruction will not solve all the problems, but you will provide basic knowledge.

Also, don’t forget about a friend who will always help - this is a comment. Good luck.
