How to connect a two-core telephone cable. The cost of connecting a home (landline) telephone from Rostelecom

Home / Routers

Rostelecom offers all its clients a home phone connection on the most favorable terms. To ensure the greatest convenience in using landline communications, the operator company has developed the most simple system installation of telephones and offered subscribers a range of tariff plans, allowing everyone to choose the most optimal option for themselves.

To connect home phone from Rostelecom, the company’s clients can use one of the following methods:

By phone

Another option: use the capabilities of the autoinformer (8-80010-02525). The person who made the call will only need to listen to all the instructions and then agree to automatically conclude a contract.

The last method involves using a telephone: filling out an application for a call back online (www.rt.ru/fastorder). From the information, the user will need to indicate: his name, contact phone number and installation address. After some time, specialists from the support center will contact the subscriber to confirm the order and clarify some significant points.

Via the site

You can also conclude a connection agreement via personal account, but for this you will need to register on the site. The further scheme, as in the previous options, assumes that later the specialists themselves will call the user.

Personal office visit

You can connect your home phone by contacting the employees of the nearest company office. The sales center is convenient because there you can immediately discuss in detail with Rostelecom employees how to connect the phone, how much it costs and get answers to other important questions, as well as immediately decide on the most suitable tariff plan.

Each of the options has its pros and cons, so everyone decides for themselves which method they will use.

Application Form

When filling out an application, one of the main questions that concerns the subscriber is the price of connecting a home telephone. Fortunately, for Rostelecom it is noticeably lower than for other companies: approximately 10,000 rubles for a regular installation and about 1,300 thousand rubles for connecting legal entities.

This figure will differ in different localities, but only slightly. This amount includes in advance the cost of a standard device that will be installed in the subscriber’s home (it functions equally well when connected to the network and to a battery).

Therefore, before connecting your home phone to Rostelecom, it is recommended to immediately clarify how much this service costs. And only then, if it turns out that all the conditions offered to the user suit him, you can start submitting an application. To do this you will need to provide the following information:

  • your full name;
  • mobile contact number;
  • passport details;
  • postal address (where you need to place your phone number).

Submit your application in any convenient way (this will not affect the cost of the service provided) and connect a Rostelecom landline phone.

Important! To conclude an agreement, the subscriber will need to present a passport or other identification document.

Selecting a tariff plan

The cost of connecting a home phone from Rostelecom will depend on which tariff the subscriber has chosen:

Subscriber

The tariff is provided only for those users who do not have per-minute determination of call duration (due to the lack of appropriate technical capabilities). These subscribers, for 344 rubles per month, get the opportunity to talk for an unlimited time (subject to making calls to local numbers). This relatively small amount even includes telephone line maintenance fees.

Unlimited

This option is designed for those who like long conversations, so the duration of calls on “Unlimited” is not limited. The cost of connecting to a Rostelecom landline telephone tariff is 512 rubles monthly. The service is valid only for calls to local numbers. Communication with other regions will be charged separately.

Combined

For 320 rubles, users of the “Combined” tariff receive 350 minutes of free calls with local numbers every month. The line fee is also immediately included in this amount. Conversations over the established limit will cost 44 kopecks per minute.

Social

Rostelecom's tariff with the lowest monthly fee (236 rubles) allows you to compensate for the cost of providing a line and gain the right to make free calls for 100 minutes every month. Once the limit is exhausted, the subscriber will have to pay 60 kopecks for each minute.

Day off

The cost of connecting to the “Weekend” tariff for a Rostelecom home phone is 338 rubles/month. Its special feature is the ability to conduct unlimited long conversations during holidays and weekends. The rest of the time, calls must be paid at a rate of 50 cpm.

Time-based

The latest tariff is intended for those who use their home phone only in the rarest cases. To pay for it, you need to pay 204 rubles every month (this is compensation for maintaining the line’s activity). Each minute of conversation on the “Time-based” tariff is 54 kopecks.

It is necessary to take into account that the tariffs, depending on the region of residence of the subscriber, will have some differences, so it is impossible to say in advance exactly how much it costs to connect to the service in each individual case.

Equipment installation

An application for installation of a Rostelecom phone is considered no longer than three days, and installation of all necessary equipment takes no more than 40 minutes. During this time, the technician manages to install the socket (to minimize the cost of maintenance, it is presented in a single copy) and establish a connection between the Rostelecom landline telephone and the network.

The client purchases the main device and the elements needed to secure it himself (this is included in the connection price). And the specialist will deliver the socket, cable and other elements necessary for installing a Rostelecom phone himself and will not require any additional payment for this.

Obviously, there should be no difficulties with submitting an application, concluding an agreement and subsequent installation of the device. Therefore, connect a landline phone, test the capabilities of Rostelecom landline communications yourself and enjoy the communication.

Connecting a device such as telephone socket(connector), at first glance, does not present much difficulty. The electrical voltage supplied to it is safe for humans. Therefore, it seems that everything can be done without disconnecting from the current source. However, when making wire connections, it is worth considering that if someone calls during the work, you can get an electric shock. The voltage during a call increases to 120 volts, and this value is already noticeably hitting your fingers.

In fact, for a person unfamiliar with the design features of the phone and wiring diagram, assembling the entire line will not be so easy. However, nothing is impossible. It is enough to at least theoretically understand how to connect the wires, and then the whole job will take no more than half an hour.

There can be any number of connectors for connecting cable and telephone in an apartment. All connector devices are connected in parallel, and only two wires are used in the line. If your communication device does not work after installation, simply swap the wiring. Now let's look at it in more detail.

We are all accustomed to the fact that the wires in our apartments are mostly attached to the wall in the lower part. In new houses, all communications are hidden inside the wall, and various cables You can also hide it inside the baseboard. When wiring is hidden in the wall, then for laying the cable a groove is made to the installation site of the socket connector. In all cases, a set of the following measures is performed:

  1. Using a grinder, a channel is cut into which the wire is laid. In order for the wires to stay in the groove, they are reinforced there with plaster. After the plaster has dried, the groove is plastered and puttied.
  2. The second option for securing the cable in the channel is to use plastic brackets that press the wiring to the wall. This method involves open fastening, but it can also be used when large quantities electrical wiring lines inside the channel.
  3. Fastening under the baseboard is quite simple if you have plastic baseboards with special grooves. Wooden plinths will have to be made to order with milling for wires. Using an old wooden baseboard will force a chisel to gouge out a groove.
  4. The next step is to install and connect the required cable to the connector. The socket connector is attached to the wall with screws through holes in the back of the box. After this, the wiring is connected to the terminals and the box lid is closed. This method is suitable when there is an external type connector box.
  5. If the box is an internal type, then you will have to make a recess in the wall using a hammer drill according to the size of the outlet box. The box inside the recess is connected to the wiring and secured with plaster mortar. After the plaster has dried, everything around the box is carefully puttied.

Before connect the wiring, they need to be checked for polarity with a tester. If the connection is made incorrectly, the equipment will not work. But this is not a reason for frustration - it will be enough to simply swap the wires. All of these steps are not that difficult for a beginner. In this case, the diagram may be needed only to know where certain cables will go.

Connecting plug-in devices to wires

There are socket connectors old and new types. The telephone, like any technology, has gone through its stages of evolution. Once upon a time, the connection to the device was carried out directly. In the second half of the 20th century, connections using sockets (connectors) began to be used. Such connectors and plugs for them were designated by the letters RTShK-4, that is, telephone connectors of a plug type with four contacts. These connectors made it possible to connect two devices to them.

Currently, only two contacts are used in residential buildings. These connectors are designated by letters and numbers: rj-9, rj-11, rj-12. The first of them is intended for connecting the speaking handset to the device, and the latter is used in office premises, as it can use several lines. We are interested in the second of the connectors.

You can connect the rj-11 socket connector yourself, without calling a specialist. Main - stick to the plan and prepare the necessary tools for work:

  • despite the fact that the telephone line is conductive, rubber gloves must be used when working; V in this case you don’t need gloves that electricians use - just take those sold in hardware stores;
  • in order not to confuse anything with the wires, you must have a tester with you to check the voltage;
  • You will definitely need both a Phillips and a flathead screwdriver;
  • Pliers and some kind of knife will help to remove the insulation;
  • You should stock up on the required footage of a two-core cable with a cross-section of 0.3 to 0.5 millimeters.

When the preparatory work is completed, we begin assembling the circuit diagram of the entire line. The main work is carried out in several stages:

  1. We put on gloves and begin to remove the insulation in the right places. The insulation is removed carefully so that the internal conductors are not damaged. Damage to the cores can cause a breakdown and everything will have to be done again.
  2. The next step is to connect the cable to the outlet. Here you must definitely check the diagram, which is either in the instructions or inside the socket connector housing.
  3. We use a tester to check “plus” and “minus”. If you connect the wires incorrectly, there will always be noise in the tube. The wires are fastened in special grooves and secured with screws.
  4. At the last stage, the housing of the socket connector is attached. How it is attached has already been mentioned: it is either built into the wall or mounted on it.

At this point, we can say that the installation of the line is complete. If no new problems arise, it means everything was done correctly.

Connecting a telephone socket. Diagram for RJ type connectors

When making your own connection, buy universal socket-plug connector. Both old-style phones and new ones can be connected to such connectors without any problems. Inside the case there is a built-in connector for the rj-11 connector and four contacts for attaching the cable. Everything is connected simply: two incoming wires (red and green) are attached to the terminals. Red insulation indicates a core with a plus sign and green insulation with a minus sign. Next to the contacts there is a plastic tab, next to which these two conductive wires are attached.

There are times when it was bought unknowingly six-pin socket. This standard applies to RJ-25. It is not used in residential buildings and apartments, but you can still connect it. How to properly connect a telephone socket in this case, the diagram will help:

  • wires are connected to the third and fourth contacts - red and green, which are located at the very top;
  • The cables to all sockets are always of the same type.

Connecting a legrand telephone socket

The name comes from the company of the same name. All products of this French brand have high quality and ease of operation. Connecting the wires is easier than in all the described cases. Using legrand, there is no need to strip the conductors of insulation in order to connect them to the contacts. Design features socket connector are such that when the wiring is inserted into the clamp, the insulation cuts itself off, as required. With one turn of the clamp, the insulation is stripped and the cleaned core is secured.

After connecting to the legrand line, it is checked with special devices. Experts advise doing this using a multimeter. Terminal voltage should not exceed 60 volts. If everything is so, then the connection was made exactly according to the diagram.

Despite the rapid decline in the popularity of landline telephones, there are not so many people who are ready to refuse them outright. Admit it, it happens that it is sometimes extremely difficult or even impossible to do without a traditional connection.

To connect the device to the switching network, you need a low-current node, the installation of which can be done by yourself. We will tell you in detail how to connect a telephone socket without calling a technician.

There is absolutely nothing complicated in the schemes and methods, and our proposed useful information, as well as photos and video materials.

Landline telephone designs are modified and improved every year. And modern devices are significantly superior to their predecessors, standing out favorably with their high reliability and ease of use.

To ensure uninterrupted operation of the device, two conditions are necessary:

  1. Availability of an active communication line from the PBX.
  2. Possibility of electrical connection stationary device to this line.

The only thing that does not change in the field of telephony is the principle of operation of landline phones. However, there are significant changes in designs and connection methods.

Old and new telephone switching options are presented in the photo selection:

The following tools need to be prepared for the work:

  • building level;
  • cross knife;
  • voltmeter;
  • screwdriver;
  • wire cutters;
  • graphite pencil;
  • protective gloves;
  • double-sided tape;
  • hammer drill (if installing a new point).

When choosing a screwdriver, you are guided by the type of surface and dimensions of the screws used for fastening. To minimize the likelihood of electric shock, it is better to perform all manipulations with a screwdriver whose handle is insulated.

Having outlined the installation location of the connection point, use a building level to correct the horizontal and vertical position of its position

To connect a hidden type socket, you must first make a hole in the wall for its installation -. This can be done using a hammer drill equipped with a special crown with a diameter of 60-70 mm.

In the absence of one, the work can be done with an ordinary hammer and chisel. But manual labor will take much more time and effort. Then, to the hole made, it is necessary to drill a channel for laying the telephone cable.

There are certain nuances when installing a socket box in.

Stage #2: Stripping the ends of the cores

Before you start melting the wires, you need to strip the ends of the wires, removing the outer layer. Just expose the outermost 4 cm of the wire.

When stripping a telephone cable, remember that it is very vulnerable to damage. And broken wires will only lead to equipment malfunction. Therefore, it is important to use a specialized one.

Since it is not always possible to carry out the cutting accurately the first time, experienced craftsmen recommend that when laying the cable, make some allowance for its length. Extra wire then it can be hidden under the cover of the device.

Removing the protective insulation from the ends of the cable should be done extremely carefully, using a cross-cutting knife, a sharpened blade or side cutters.

The technician’s task is to strip the ends of the wires from the braid so that when exposed they are intact and free of any defects.

Step #3: Connecting the outlet wires

Stripped wires with separated cores are connected to the connectors of the box itself, focusing on the markings indicated on the front panel of the indoor unit. With a closed installation method, for ease of connection, the wires are made to protrude beyond the wall plane by 50-80 mm.

To maintain polarity when connecting wires, follow the rule: red insulation on the line with the “-” sign, and green braiding on the “+”

If the rules regarding polarity are not followed, there is a high risk that the telephone will malfunction from time to time during operation.

At this stage of work you will need a voltmeter. With its help you need to check the readiness of the communication line. The line voltage should be between 40-60 Volts.

The supplied cable cores are applied to the clamp and tightened tightly with special screws, ensuring reliable fixation. The shape of the grooves to which the cores are attached facilitates the installation process. There is no need to wrap the joints with electrical tape.

When connecting devices whose design is equipped with four fork-shaped contacts, only the two central contacts are used

When performing open mounting, at the final stage all that remains is to close the housing cover using the latch and secure it with screws. The finished socket is attached to the wall or floor, “planting” it with double-sided tape.

With a closed installation method, making sure that the wires are not intertwined in the socket box, according to the markings applied, the indoor unit is mounted into the wall. Having given the block the desired position, the structure is fixed using expansion screws and self-tapping screws.

At the final stage, all that remains is to eliminate the gaps between the socket box and the wall, covering it with gypsum mortar, and also seal the channels with the laid telephone cable.

After the plaster has acquired the desired strength, the protective edging is installed in place and the front panel is attached. In modern devices, the protective edging snaps onto indoor unit, and the front panel is secured by screwing in screws.

There is nothing difficult about connecting a telephone socket. The only thing is that you should not save money by purchasing equipment in a low price range. It does not always meet the standards and can fail even at the connection stage.

How to connect a home phone?

Even though mobile phones are very popular today, landline phones also do not lose their relevance. There is a simple explanation for this - a landline phone has a number of unique advantages: it does not run out of battery, and calls to other cities and countries are much cheaper.

In this article we will talk about how to connect your home phone yourself.

How to connect your home phone correctly

In order to connect or, you can contact specialists or do the connection yourself. To do this, you need to make a minimum of effort - select the device model you like and connect it to the network.

Telephone socket and plug

To connect a stationary device you need. A telephone socket is needed in order to transfer the telephone cable wires that come from the telephone exchange to the RJ-11 interface. RJ-11 is a new type socket; in old houses there were sockets of the RTShK-4 type. A wired telephone is connected to such an outlet using a plug.

The telephone plug is a box made of plastic. It has two parts - two halves, one of which has four flat contacts inserted into it. The telephone cord is attached to them using screws.

The plug and socket perform only one function - they are needed for ease of connecting the phone and ease of use. Communication is carried out by connecting two wires stretched into the apartment and a cord coming from the telephone set.

Connecting to a telephone socket

Let's look at connecting the device using the example of a modern RJ-11 socket. The home telephone is connected directly to the telephone socket through a cable, at the end of which there are RJ-11 connectors. One connector is inserted into the telephone socket, the other into the telephone socket. Inside the socket, the wires are wound around screws, to which the terminals from the connector are connected.

Phone connection types

It is important to consider that simple telephone sets have a two-wire connection type, which comes from the PBX. But there are phones with a four-wire connection type. In this case, to connect the phone you will need the same two wires that indicate the two central channels. Most often, these wires can be identified by color - these are red and green wires. If the phone is connected without using a telephone socket, these wires need to be used. It does not matter with what polarity these wires are connected: the device will work in any case.

Installing a landline phone

As a rule, you can install a home telephone in any room of your apartment or house. To do this, you simply need to run the telephone cable to the desired location. The most convenient option is considered to be kits that include landline phone and an associated radio tube. The advantage of a radio handset is that you can use it to answer calls in any part of the apartment and move around during a conversation.

These products are low-current contacts housed in plastic housings of various shapes, designs and sizes. The connection can be made by securing the contacts with screws or using a specially designed connector. Older products use special plugs.

DIY connection

Before talking about the connection, you need to bring the telephone cable to the place intended for installing the socket.

In new residential premises it is laid during construction work using hidden wiring. Only a couple of contacts are exposed outside, but a socket can also be installed.

In used rooms, the cable is often laid along the baseboard, but this is impractical as it can be damaged during cleaning. It is common to lay the telephone cable under the baseboards; for this there is no need to dismantle them, just move it a little and lay the cable in the resulting gap. After this, put the baseboard in place.

The cable can be brought to the installation site directly along the wall, or you can cut a channel and lay it as hidden wiring.

Materials and tools

Basic devices that may be needed when installing telephone wiring:

  • side cutters - for cutting cables;
  • knife - for stripping the ends of wires;
  • screwdriver - fastening the ends in the socket;
  • screws – fastening the base of the device to the wall;
  • drill - drilling holes for fixing the external device;
  • drill with carbide tips - usually used with a diameter of 4.2 mm;
  • plastic inserts in holes;
  • “grinder” with a disc for concrete – for concealed wiring;
  • hammer drill with a core drill, drill size in accordance with the size of the box;
  • – to clarify the polarity of the contacts in the connector when connecting;
  • protective latex gloves - if during work you accidentally call the phone, the potential difference can reach 120V, which is no longer safe for direct contact.

Work order

  1. If you decide to install hidden wiring, you should first create a channel for laying the telephone cable. Using a grinder, cut a hole along the entire length of the channel and lay the wire in it; seal the channel with cement mortar.
  2. When making open wiring, you will need special plastic brackets for attaching the cable to the wall and an electric drill with a drill. Insert plastic inserts into holes about 20 mm deep and secure the wire under the bracket with a nail or screw. All fasteners are sold as a set; there are no problems with the compatibility of components.
  3. Installation under the baseboard will require the use of a chisel, with which the baseboard is removed from the wall to lay the wire. After this, the baseboard is tapped into place with standard nails.
  4. When installing the outer box, it must be connected to the cable first. After this, fix it on the wall. Options are possible here, determined by the design of the boxes themselves. If its base has holes for fastening, you need to attach it to the installation site and mark the location of the holes on the wall. Using a drill, drill holes, install inserts and secure the base of the box with the screws provided. Then install the cover, which has special latches for this purpose. The base without mounting holes can be mounted on the wall using double-sided tape. The fastening is quite reliable, but it is advisable to hold the housing when disconnecting the connector.
  5. When installing the inner box, you need to use a hammer drill and a core drill along the diameter of the box. After making a blind hole in the wall, install the box in it, connect it to the cable and secure it in the hole. Replace the cover.
  6. When connecting contacts, you need to check the correspondence of the poles with a tester (location “+” and “-”).

All work is simple and accessible to a non-professional performer.

Types of connectors. Features of the use of RJ11, RJ12 and other types

Telephone connectors serve not only for connecting devices to a communication line. They are used to connect with other devices and communication devices.

Sockets are made with one, two or more connectors and can provide connection for several subscribers simultaneously.

In the wide variety of connectors, it is necessary to consider some of their varieties:

  • RJ11 – two-wire version, used for connecting to linear networks.
  • RJ14 – equipped with four conductors and four contacts, compatible with most modern telephone models. To connect one subscriber you need to use the 2nd and 3rd contacts. If you need to connect several additional lines, you need to use the 1st and 4th contacts. If an overhead telephone socket is used, the line is connected using red and green wires.
  • RJ25 - has three pairs of contacts; its connection requires the participation of a qualified telephone specialist.
  • RTShK-4 is a legacy of the Soviet period, but is still being produced and used today. Comes with a special key. The connection is made in a permanent way with a tap-off box. If there are several points of this type in the room, they are short-circuited using a capacitor.

Let's talk more about devices for connecting RJ11 and RJ12:

  • The first of these types of products is used for individual connections in regular telephone networks.
  • The second is used for networks with heavy loads - in office or public places.

These types of connecting devices have two or four pins, designed like a metal plug, connected to pins that are located in the center. For installation, a special tool is desirable - a cross-connecting knife, which allows you to remove the braid without damaging the wire and crimp the plug when installing it on the wire.

To connect you need:

  • remove the braid from the wire to a length of 4–5 centimeters;
  • straighten each cable core, the number of which ranges from 4 to 6;
  • place all wiring in the slots of the socket;
  • Check for contact between the connector and the phone cable.

When starting the connection, you need to take care of safety measures when performing work. Be sure to wear rubber gloves that can protect you from electric shock.

General socket design standards indicate that red braiding usually indicates a positive conductor, and green braiding usually indicates a negative conductor. A tester will help you verify this.

The connection methods for all sockets are identical, but they differ in installation methods depending on the design.

In practice, the installation of popular French-made sockets such as Legrnd is also carried out. The line of products of this type is very diverse; sockets are available with any type of installation: external, internal and any other. The color coding follows European standards and is identical to similar products from other manufacturers.

  1. When carrying out work on laying telephone cables, you need to remember the safety rules:
    • When cutting cable grooves in brick or concrete, be sure to wear safety glasses or a face mask to protect your eyes and face.
    • Take the same safety precautions when drilling holes for cable support or outlet base.
    • When cutting material from the grooved channels, from the blind hole for the socket box, install a protective disk on the chisel to prevent damage to your hands.
    • Work with wiring must be done with protective gloves.
  2. If you don't have a wire polarity tester, use a cut potato. Stick the ends of the wires into the pulp; the surface of the pulp around the positive wire will soon begin to darken.
  3. Modern sockets are made in a safe version. However, they must be installed out of the reach of children.
  4. When stripping the ends of the cable for connection, you must avoid damaging the insulation of the internal wires and, especially, the conductors themselves. This leads to deterioration in communication quality and the possibility of line breakage.
  5. If you are using an old Soviet two-core wire in the form of a plastic ribbon with wires along the edges, it is unacceptable to fasten it by driving nails between the wires. This often leads to a line break during installation. When a nail comes into contact with a wire, a grounding pair can be formed, which degrades the quality of the connection.

By carrying out all the work thoughtfully and carefully, you can successfully cope with the simple task of wiring and installing sockets. Take it without a doubt and you will succeed!
