Import an image using a scanner into Photoshop. Editing a scanned document in Photoshop How to scan using Photoshop

Home / Doesn't turn on

There are often times when you need to improve the quality of a scanned document: remove dashes, unnecessary lines, even out the color, etc. This is what we will do...

We scan the document and save it in the graphic format, which you will need later ( jpeg, tiff).

Take the tool Eyedropper Tool and select a dark area of the image on the document. For black and white documents, use dark gray.

Change the blending mode of the top layer to Darken. If you realize that you have chosen a darker color than you need, do not be discouraged - you can reduce the opacity level to the required values, for example 50-60%. The most important thing is that all the necessary details of the document, such as text and printing, remain clear. Or the second option is better - fill the top layer with a lighter color, which also doesn’t last long. You just need to use a pipette to select a lighter color and fill the document. How this happens is described just above...

All unnecessary dashes, stripes, squiggles, etc. can be removed with a tool Eraser Tool, but you need to erase it on its own on the bottom layer - the layer of the document that we need to correct.

Now the most important thing! Go to Image-Adjustments-Curves.

In the following lessons I will take a closer look at the Curves tool. Now we need to know one thing - the bottom is a dark color, the top is white. We need to lighten the document a little, but!!! do not overdo it, the letters should be readable, as on any document.

All the work we have done is needed only to even out the color of the document and give it a neat look.

The document is ready!

We connect the EPSON Perfection 1670 scanner to the PC. Launch Photoshop and execute the command: File > Import > WIA Support. And in the WIA Support window, uncheck the box in front of the item: Create a unique subfolder with the name of today's date and click on the button: Start.

In the Device Selection window, select the scanner (for this, the EPSON Scan driver must be installed, otherwise Photoshop will not see the scanner). And click on the OK button.

In the window: Scanning with EPSON Perfection 1670, select the item: Black and white image or text. And click on the button: Scan.

The scan progress status indicator will appear.

Once scanning is complete, we will receive the document. We cut off the excess by pressing the C key, we select a tool: “Frame” tool, select what we need, press right button mouse and select: Frame.

Now you need to rotate the document, to do this we execute the command: Image > Image Rotation > 180. And look at the result:

The quality is very bad... close the document and execute the command: File > Import > WIA Support. This time we select the item: Black and white image (shades).

Let's look at the result:

In the window: GIF Options, leave the default value and click on the OK button.

Now the second save option. Execute the command: Image > Mode > RGB.

After installing the scanner driver, you can scan photos and documents directly from Adobe programs Photoshop. To open the scanner dialog box, you need to run the command File(File) | Import(Import) | Your scanner name.

As a rule, scanners can operate in several modes: from automatic to professional, which allows you to manually set all the settings. It is better to use the second mode, in which you can specify the scanning parameters yourself: document type, image resolution, number of bits per channel, etc.

It is better to carry out scanning in two steps: first, carry out a preliminary scan, and then directly scan the document itself. After preliminary scanning, the image appears in the viewing window, in which you can change the selection frame to define the area for subsequent scanning (Fig. 2.4).

NOTES

With a selection frame you can determine whether part of a document is scanned! To change the border of the frame, move the mouse pointer to the border, and when a double-sided arrow appears, simply drag it with the mouse button pressed.

Also, most scanners allow you to carry out initial tone and color correction of the image at the time of scanning, but, in my opinion,

image correction should be performed only after scanning the document using the program Adobe Photoshop, which has a rich diagnostic toolkit for identifying image defects.

For photos and documents, you must set the following scanning options:

❒ document type - transparent (for photographic films) or reflective (for paper media);

❒ exposure type - photo or document;

❒ image type - 24-bit color (for color photographs) or 8-bit grayscale (for halftone images and documents);

❒ resolution - 200 pixels/inch (for subsequent printing on a printer) or 96 pixels/inch (for posting on the Internet), more information about image resolution see section 2.4.

NOTES

If the image was scanned upside down, as in Fig. 2.4, then to rotate it use the command Image(Image) | Image rotation(Image Rotation) | 180 °.

Part III: Saving a File in Adobe Photoshop

Select a file format. Recommended formats:
For web: .jpg for photographs, .gif for other images (not photos).

Scanning

Using a scanning device or digital camera and appropriate software, slides, pictures, or photographs can be converted into digital form so that a computer can perceive them, display them, edit them, and then print them. You can scan using Photoshop or other software directly and save the data in a format that Photoshop can understand.

To use a scanner to create high quality image, which will be printed later, carefully select source material. Some scanners reduce the tonal range of the image and thus increase its contrast, so it is better to take a photo with a good color balance. If you plan to scan an image yourself, carefully consider your scan settings.

The quality of the scanned image depends in part on the type of scanner you use. If you are going to significantly change the image in Photoshop (for example, apply filters or apply large number brush strokes), an inexpensive flatbed scanner is quite suitable, which will create an RGB image. For more accurate transmission colors and details images Use a scanner with a slide attachment or a slide scanner to scan transparent originals as well.

If you need high-quality, professional images, scan your footage into service center on a high-resolution CCD scanner such as the Scitex Smart-Scanner or on a drum scanner. Scanners latest models can display a wide range of color and shadow and capture subtle differences in brightness, even in dark areas. They typically create CMYK images that are large in size.
