How to change the language in wps office. WPS Office is a great alternative to MS Office

Home / Installing programs

IN Linux Mint The interface of all three programs after launch is English.

To download WPS Office on Linux, go to https://wps.com/download and select

From the list of available packages, select yours (for Linux Mint this will be a deb package), corresponding to the system bit size (32 or 64 bit).

When you first start, you will be asked to accept (I Accept) the terms of use:

In the example under consideration, when launching WPS Office, an analogue was used Microsoft Word– WPS Writer. However, the changes you make will affect all components of WPS Office.

After launch you will be given a warning like

but for now you can close this window and “deal with” it after switching to Russian.

To switch to Russian, click on the arrow in the right corner of the Writer button

and go to "Tools" Switch Language". WPS Office will connect to its website and display a list of available languages. Find Russian and double-click on it.
As soon as the Russian localization is copied in the download window, WPS Office will inform you that the interface will switch after restarting the application.

After the restart, the meaning of the previously pop-up message became clear:
Now we need to install a Russian spell check dictionary. Download the archive.

The archive contains a directory with three files:

The WPS Office Russification guides on various sites contain instructions for adding Russian dictionaries through terminal commands. But it is probably more convenient and clearer to do this through a file manager. Execute in terminal

Sudo nemo – for the Cinnamon environment

Sudo caja – for MATE environment

Sudo thunar - for XFCE environment

And place the ru_RU directory in /opt/kingsoft/wps-office/office6/dicts

Launch WPS Writer and click on the arrow in the right corner of the button
Go to "Tools - Select language" and set the default to Russian:

You probably noticed that when WPS Writer starts, a not entirely clear process occurs, which is displayed by the Docer window:

Download the program from the website and install it (select a package in rpm format of the desired bit rate - 32 or 64) http://wps-community.org/downloads

Translation into Russian is done by the community: https://github.com/wps-community/wps_i18n

Russification of WPS Office:

1. Open a terminal and go to the folder with installed program team

Cd /opt/kingsoft/wps-office/office6/dicts

2. Then download the archive with the Russian dictionary (spell check) from the official website

Sudo wget http://wps-community.org/download/dicts/ru_RU.zip

3. And unpack it

Sudo unzip ru_RU.zip

4. The item was relevant for version A20-A20P1, but is now irrelevant and has been removed. 5. After launching in the settings, change the language to Russian: 5.1. Click the arrow in the upper left corner of the window; 5.2. Select "Tools -> Change language" 5.3. Restart WPS Office.

Ready. Now you have a good office that perfectly supports MSO text and table formats (in the case of viewing and presentation).

Additional WPS Office setup

1. WPS Office by default saves documents in its own formats, however, they are almost completely identical to Microsoft formats, so we’ll switch it to saving in MCO formats by default. Repeat these steps separately for WPS Writer, Spreadsheets, Presentation.
1.1. Click the arrow in the upper left corner of the window:
1.2. Tools -> Options -> General and Saving
1.3. Set the desired format as default.

2. In the same place we change the encoding of web pages to UTF-8

3. We also set the switch there so that when WPS Office starts, it does not open an online collection of templates, which takes time to load, but simply a blank document.

Automatic backup

Please note that WPS Office comes with automatic backup, thanks to which it automatically saves documents opened in it at certain intervals to a specific directory.

Changing the WPS Office interface style

This is done using the T-shirt icon in the upper right corner:

Just recently I came across information about an office suite from Chinese developers - WPS Office. Previously, this package was called Kingsoft Office. After installation, I saw a clone of the “fine-soft” product. Chinese programmers did a great job.

Knowledgeable users on forums, social networks. networks and blogs write that compatibility with ms office 2010 and other versions is simply excellent. Easy enough to install required fonts and the result will be excellent. There is support for PPT, DOC, DOCX, XLS XLSX formats, and can also save documents in PDF format.

From the information on the WPS Office website:

“Compatible with Fedora, CentOS, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu, Mint, Knoppix and many more
Supports 32-bit and 64-bit systems
Fully compatible with Microsoft Office
Spell check in 10 languages
Supported by our open source community"

Included: text editor Writer, spreadsheet editor Spreadsheets and presentation creation in Presentation.

So let's start installing the program on Ubuntu. Go to the download page - . Download. deb package, which must match the architecture of your system. After downloading, install via Application Center or GDebi.

To Russify the program, go to Main menu - Tools - Switch Language . Select Russian language. The program will download language pack, after which you will need to restart WPS Office.

To add a Russian dictionary for spell checking you need to download the archive:

For the Ukrainian language download the archive:

In the opened file manager copy the ru_RU or uk_UA directory to the above folder. Now let's go to Main menu - Tools - Set language . Select Russian Federation or Ukrainian - Set as default. With this, let me take my leave.

WPS Office is an office suite that includes a word processor, a spreadsheet processor, and a presentation program. Has excellent compatibility with Microsoft documents Office.

WPS Office is developed by KINGSOFT Office Software Corporation (a subsidiary of publicly traded Kingsoft Corp). The WPS Office office suite itself was previously called Kingsoft Office, but on June 6, 2014 it was renamed WPS Office.

There are both paid and free versions WPS Office. Under Linux the program is completely free.

WPS Office consists of three programs:

  • Writer - word processor;

A distinctive feature of WPS Office compared to others office packages, running under Linux, has very good compatibility with Microsoft Office documents (at least as stated by the developer). Therefore, if you have had experience working with complex Microsoft documents, please write in the comments.

The WPS Office interface practically replicates the Microsoft Office interface. There are several design themes: light and dark themes in the style of Microsoft Office 2010 (“ribbon interface”), as well as a classic theme, which is similar to Microsoft Office 2003 (simple horizontal panels with icons).

WPS Office is cross-platform. There are versions for Windows, MacOS, Linux, as well as for mobile operating systems - iOS and Android. The program is compatible and tested in most popular Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, OpenSUSE and others).
