Which computer to build this year. Building a budget gaming computer for the price of a PlayStation

Home / Routers

2018 has not yet been very kind to lovers of advanced computer hardware. Prices for RAM are rising, the cost of new processors from Intel is consistently high, and high-performance video cards are being bought en masse by miners. At the same time, solid-state drives, on the contrary, have fallen in price since January of this year.

If you don’t want to wait, you can start assembling a configuration that will delight you with new AAA projects now.

What does Steam say?

The gaming platform Steam regularly collects data on the popularity of components from certain vendors among players.

CPU

Last year, AMD burst into the processor market with its new Ryzen product, displacing Intel. But Steam statistics show that over the past six months, processors from AMD have seriously lost in popularity to solutions from Intel.

AMD is significantly lowering the prices of Ryzen processors in an effort to sell them out ahead of the release of the next generation of Zen+ processors, which are scheduled to hit shelves in April. At the same time, the new Coffee Lake generation processors from Intel are in no hurry to become cheaper.

So now there is a good chance to purchase a processor from AMD at a low price, which will be relevant in the next few years.

Video card

According to research by analysts Jon Peddie Research, AMD video cards have won 33.7% of the market from NVIDIA. This is due to the cryptocurrency gold rush - AMD adapters are always popular among miners.

System

Interestingly, the most common language among Steam users was Chinese, spoken by as many as 63.93% of players. Analysts attribute this to the growing popularity of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in Asia.

What you need to know if you buy a video card second-hand

Online trading platforms, such as Avito, are inundated with offers for the sale of used components. This is largely due to cryptocurrency miners. Moreover, among them there are both seasoned miners and newcomers who belatedly joined the general hobby and are now disappointed in this matter.

For the first ones, the hardware worked non-stop and paid for itself long ago, having become rather shabby. The second ones did not really use their video cards, and now they are trying to minimize losses.

There is no clear answer to the question of whether it is worth buying used hardware. There are fierce discussions on the forums. Opponents of used components point to wear and tear of equipment and violation of temperature conditions. There are also those who snatched up an excellent video card on the cheap and are now agitating to buy components from their own hands. Some even believe that a video card that has been tested through hard work in a mining rig will withstand anything after that.

What should you pay attention to when buying a used video card?

Buying used electronics is always a risk. If you still decide to save money, you should do the following:

  • Check the documents for the video card. Please note the date of purchase and the expiration date of the warranty. Avoid purchasing a video card without documents and packaging.
  • Inspect the video card for burnt or broken components, scratches and darkened PCB. Blackened or yellowed PCB is a sign of constant overheating of the video card. This may also signal that the owner of the dying video card tried to revive it with a hairdryer. In this case, you need to refuse the purchase.
  • Check the cooling system. If the fans on the adapter are not original, this is a sign that the video card was mercilessly heated and the cooling was replaced before sale.
  • A video card that looks normal should be tested using heavy games and benchmarks. The proven FurMark will do. If this causes crashes or graphical artifacts, do not buy the video card.
  • Run GPU-Z and make sure that the real characteristics of the video card match those indicated on the manufacturer’s website.
  • If you suspect that you have been mining with your video card, run any miner on it, such as MultiMiner or NiceHash. If graphic artifacts appear during operation, it means that everything that is possible has already been squeezed out of this video card.

All these manipulations will not give a 100% guarantee that the card will work. Be careful and don't trust suspicious sellers.

Assembling a gaming computer

When starting to build a gaming system, you will first have to decide whose processor and motherboard to use - AMD or Intel, and whose video card - AMD or NVIDIA. Their components are approximately equivalent in performance. So be guided by the prices and availability of certain parts in stores.

The presented configurations for different budgets will allow you to assemble the optimal machine for gaming. The assemblies indicate the main components, excluding the periphery. Parts like the case, power supply, and cooling are included in the budget but not mentioned separately.

Budget 35,000 rubles

This build will allow you to play most games in Full HD on medium graphics settings. It's a budget solution, but you'll save a lot of money.

  • Processor and motherboard: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 and AMD B350 or Intel Pentium G4600 and Intel H110 Express.
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 470.
  • RAM: 1 × 8 GB DDR4-2400/2666.
  • Storage: HDD, 1 TB.

Budget 60,000 rubles

The assembly is suitable for games in Full HD with high graphics settings. She won't need major upgrades in the next two years.

  • CPU and Motherboard: AMD Ryzen 5 1500X and AMD B350 or Intel Core i3-8100 and Intel Z370 Express.
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 480 Radeon RX 570/580.
  • RAM: 2 × 8 GB DDR4-2400.
  • Storage: HDD, 1 TB and SSD, 120 GB.

Budget 90,000 rubles

This system is capable of running games in Full HD at maximum graphics settings.

  • Processor and motherboard: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X and AMD B350 or Intel Core i5-8400 and Intel Z370 Express.
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX 580.
  • RAM: 2 × 8 GB DDR4-320.
  • Storage: HDD, 1 TB and SSD, 120 GB or more.

Budget from 100,000 rubles

Configuration designed for WQHD games at high and maximum graphics settings.

  • Processor and motherboard: AMD Ryzen 7 1700X and AMD B350/X370 or Intel Core i7-8700 and Intel Z370 Express.
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56.
  • RAM: 2 × 8 GB DDR4-3200.
  • Storage: HDD, 1 TB and SSD, 240 GB or more.

Budget from 170,000 rubles

A configuration for seasoned gamers, capable of running any game in WQHD at maximum graphics settings.

  • Processor and motherboard: AMD Ryzen 7 1700X and AMD X370 or Intel Core i7-8700K and Intel Z370 Express.
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.
  • RAM: 2 × 16 GB DDR4-3000/3200.
  • Storage: HDD, 1 TB and SSD, 250 GB or more.

You can create a more powerful system based on AMD Ryzen Threadripper or Intel Core i9-7900X. But this solution is for very advanced and filthy rich gamers and developers. For ordinary users, such power is clearly excessive.

Naturally, solid state drives much faster than HDD. But their prices are higher, and the volumes are inferior to HDDs purchased for the same money. So in the cheapest option you can do without an SSD. In the future it will be possible to purchase additional solid state drive and get a performance upgrade by installing the system on it, increase RAM and replace the processor with a more productive one.

Modern games take up a lot of space; one 120 GB SSD for the system and games will not be enough. If you have some extra money left, it's worth increasing the size of your SSD.

A whole chain of world events leads to the fact that the domestic currency continues its enchanting dive in search of the bottom. Because computer equipment is purchased primarily in US dollars, its ruble value fluctuates with the exchange rate. January is the hardest month since the appearance of this column (in April, “Computer of the Month” will turn one year old). Now is perhaps the most unfavorable period for buying system unit, but there is no point in dissuading her from it. Firstly, there is a need to purchase new equipment. Computers become obsolete and fail. Secondly, we should not exclude the situation described in one old joke: perhaps, over time, we will realize that this was still a white streak.

Iron becomes more expensive every month. Configuring systems is becoming increasingly difficult. In this regard, I accepted next solution: From now on, the focus is solely on productivity. The goal is to offer readers configurations that will be considered relevant and modern for as long as possible. Therefore, in the assemblies reviewed today, the emphasis is on the performance of the central processor and video card. Unfortunately, in some cases you will have to sacrifice the functionality of motherboards and the potential for upgrades, as well as aesthetics, ergonomics and other criteria inherent in a home gaming computer.

Computer of the month - January 2016

Starting assembly - up to 30,000 rubles

A starting system worth up to 30,000 rubles will allow the user to play modern computer games up to 1080p resolution. In most cases, you will have to abandon effects such as anti-aliasing, and you will also need to set the general low/medium graphics quality settings.

The starting assembly is an example of a configuration in which you have to save on everything. Nothing can be done, because at today's exchange rate 30,000 rubles is only 400 US dollars, and no one has yet canceled the “thousands of dollars” rule.

What does such savings amount to? If we talk about the Intel system, then buying a dual-core frankly budget central Pentium processor G3260. There are games that simply won’t launch with this “stone”. For example, Far Cry 4. The only advantage of this system is the ability to eventually install a quad-core Haswell generation chip (for example, Core i5-4460), and with it a more powerful video card of the GeForce GTX 960/970 level. And buy a solid-state drive, since boards based on the H81 Express chipset have a pair of SATA 3.0 ports. With the wording “here and now”, the AMD platform looks preferable in this category. In particular, the FX-4300 processor has, albeit weak, four cores.

Last month, the launch build used a more modern FM2+ platform and an AMD Athlon X4 860K processor. This time the choice fell on the FX-4300. It is cheaper, but the functionality of boards based on 760G logic is weak on both legs. There are no SATA 3.0 connectors. There is no overclocking, although all FX chips have an unlocked multiplier. The boards indicated in the table support only 95-watt processors, which will allow you to eventually replace the FX-4300 with the low-frequency FX-8300, for example. That's all.

You can still find the Radeon HD 7850 on sale. For your money, it’s an ideal option. Don't shy away from scanning online flea markets. Often this best way save. If you can’t find an old Radeon HD 7850, you’ll have to take a video card of the Radeon R7 360 or GeForce GTX 750 level. My choice fell on the AMD solution. Its performance is sufficient for more or less comfortable gaming in Full resolution HD in GTA V and Fallout 4. With proper luck, the card will accelerate to 1200 MHz on the chip. And then it will be equal in performance to the stock versions of the GeForce GTX 750 Ti and Radeon R7 260X.

The most difficult category. Here I suffered an outright fiasco, since within the stated budget I ultimately failed to “shove” both the Core i5 and the 4 GB version of the GeForce GTX 960 into the assembly. I have already emphasized more than once that the normal gaming computer must consist of a 4-core processor and a mid-price graphics adapter with 4 GB of video memory in order to “pull” modern games in Full HD resolution at high graphics quality settings. To fit into the pre-agreed budget, you will have to either buy a Core i3 instead of a Core i5-4460, or buy a 2 GB version instead of a 4 GB 3D accelerator. Let me remind you that the table shows average prices for Yandex.Market (region - Moscow). Consequently, such an assembly can cost either less or more.

Even in 2016, Skylake processors for the LGA1151 platform are noticeably more expensive than Haswell Refresh. For example, the cheapest 14nm quad-core processor, the Core i5-6400, is comparable in price to the Core i5-4460, but operates at a lower frequency. The new architecture does not help; when compared head-to-head, Skylake turns out to be slower. In addition, motherboards for the LGA1151 socket are also noticeably more expensive.

As for the assembly on the AMD platform, this month we had to abandon the FX-8300 processor in favor of the FX-8320E. It's not a big problem. The downside to these 95-watt chips is their low clock speed. Yes, the Turbo Core parameter is stated to be decent - 4000+ MHz. But in practice, these “stones” almost never work at this speed. The noticeable difference in performance between the FX-8320E and the FX-8320 confirms my words. Therefore, to balance the configuration, it would be a good idea to slightly overclock the central processor. For example, up to stable 3.7-4.0 GHz without raising the voltage. The motherboards given as an example will cope with this task, but I'm afraid they are incapable of more. In particular, due to the lack of any noticeable cooling of the power subsystem. You definitely need a case with a fan on the back wall, but it’s even better if the air flow is directed directly to the north bridge and the power circuit.

Practice shows that the FX-8300 and FX-8320E quickly accelerate to 4.5-4.7 GHz, but this will require a higher-quality motherboard.

An optimal system costing up to 75,000 rubles will allow the user to play modern computer games up to 1440p resolution with maximum graphics quality settings.

Here is the long-awaited thousand-dollar build. So far for a thousand dollars. Last time the basic element Intel platforms became a Core i5-6500 processor. The savings forced me to turn again to the Haswell chip. In terms of performance, it hasn't gotten any worse. In terms of functionality and possibilities for further upgrades, the January optimal build is noticeably inferior to the December one.

Second point. The budget is enough to install an inexpensive solid-state drive with a capacity of 120-128 GB. Last month I was able to integrate an SSD with twice the capacity into an optimal build.

The rest of the components have not changed. If the ruble continues to depreciate, then there is a possibility that in February it will no longer be possible to integrate a video card of the level of GeForce GTX 970 or Radeon R9 390 into the system. You'll have to settle for the Radeon R9 380X.

And here is the first and only assembly on Intel Skylake! I chose the Core i5-6600 model, without an unlocked multiplier. At the end of 2015, for a number of motherboards based on the Z170 Express chipset, all leading manufacturers (ASUS, ASRock, MSI, GIGABYTE, BIOSTAR and Supermicro) released updated BIOS version. After flashing the boards, they can overclock any Skylake chips by changing the clock generator frequency. The Core i5-6600 will easily reach the 4.0-4.3 GHz mark. To do this, you will need to increase the BCLK frequency to 121-130 MHz, respectively. The vast majority of motherboards can handle such overclocking. The table above shows devices that are 100% likely to overclock Skylake on the bus. Such procedures lead to automatic shutdown built-in graphics core, as well as functions of dynamic frequency change, C-states and Turbo Boost. In addition, the performance of AVX instructions is reduced.

The AMD system remains virtually unchanged. I had to focus on cheaper motherboards, but there will be no problems with overclocking. Overall, I used a cheaper power supply for the advanced build. True, installing another GeForce GTX 980 over time was not initially planned.

Extreme assembly - up to 150,000 rubles

An assembly costing up to 150,000 rubles will allow the user to play modern computer games up to 2160p resolution. In WQHD you can pamper yourself with maximum graphics quality. In Ultra HD you will have to select parameters, since the load on the graphics subsystem increases dramatically.

Over the past time, the 6-core Core i7-5820K processor and GeForce GTX 980 Ti video card have become noticeably more expensive. A logical thought crept into my head: shouldn’t I switch to Skylake? For example, a Core i7-6700 and a Z170 board at a reasonable price. It will be cheaper this way. And yet, saving on two components allowed us to stay on LGA2011-v3. Firstly, instead of a solid-state drive with a capacity of 500-512 GB, I had to take a less capacious SSD. Secondly, my choice fell on a 650 W power supply. In the December “Computer of the Month” I offered an 850 W power supply in the expectation that over time another GeForce GTX 980 Ti would be installed in the system. As you can see, the performance of the extreme build remained at the same level, but without the same shine.

The real motivation that makes us think about buying a new computer this year is video cards. AMD and NVIDIA each released three models (we don’t take Titan X into account, which is not available in Russia), which overlap only in the case of the Radeon RX 480 and GeForce GTX 1060 (Middle-end). In other price segments, either “red” adapters (Low-end) or “green” (High-end) look preferable. Competition on all fronts is postponed until the fall.

Unhealthy trend. Iron prices crept up again over the allotted period of time. Some builds have changed for the worse because of this. If you still haven’t decided to buy a new computer, then at least decide on the platform: motherboard, processor and RAM.

Last month I was responsible for the graphics in the launch build Radeon video card R7 360. With an adapter of this level, you can play many modern games in Full HD resolution with medium graphics quality settings. For example, in Battlefield 4 with the Medium preset you will get average 50-60 FPS.

But don’t rush to buy the Radeon R7 360. On August 8, the Radeon RX 460 will finally go on sale, which at a price of about $100 will receive performance level of the Radeon R7 370 (review). How much they will ask for “four hundred and sixtieth” in Russia is unknown. But I recommend focusing on it for cheap builds in 2016. For the version with 4 GB of memory.

Otherwise, the starting assembly has not undergone any changes. The AMD version was more expensive. To make it as cheap as possible, you will have to take the FX-6300 (6,500 rubles) instead of the FX-8320E.

Basic assembly - ~50,000 rubles

A basic system costing ~50,000 rubles will allow the user to play modern computer games up to 1080p resolution. In Full HD, in most cases you can pamper yourself even with the maximum graphics quality settings.

Money is already tight for the FX-8350, which was used in the base build last month. I took a simpler model, but if overclocking is possible, it makes sense to buy the cheapest 8-core AMD. Practice shows that they all consistently race up to 4500 MHz. In this matter, a lot depends on the quality of the motherboard. I checked ASUS M5A97 R2.0. She can do it.

Overclocking Intel Skylake processors is also possible, but you only need a special motherboard. It costs around 8,000 rubles. If this is interesting to you, then you are welcome to study the corresponding one. In short, I conducted an experiment in which I overclocked the Core i5-6400 to an absolutely stable 4.9 GHz.

The recommended price for Radeon RX 480 and GeForce GTX 1060 is 19,000 rubles. The cards are available in Moscow retail, but on average they cost 3,000 rubles more than the advertised price list. I hope that the cost of accelerators will decrease at least a little. Non-reference Radeon RX 480 will go on sale only in mid/late August. There will be no reference version (Founders Edition) of the GeForce GTX 1060 in Russia. Only custom ones. There are already expensive versions of Pascal video cards on sale. For example, MSI GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING X 6G (review, RUB 24,000). When choosing a non-reference NVIDIA, do not look at the frequencies. All GeForces on Pascal chips are driven approximately the same: up to 2000 MHz per chip. The main criteria when buying a GeForce GTX 1060/1070/1080 are price, cooling efficiency and noise level.

Optimal assembly - ~75,000 rubles

An optimal system costing ~75,000 rubles will allow the user to play modern computer games up to 1440p resolution with maximum graphics quality settings.

To fit into my predetermined budget, I had to ditch the SSD. Last month I suggested investing in a 120-128GB SSD. So that the operating system and all main programs load in a matter of seconds. Still, I think that as the price of components increases, it is better to invest in the main components. Treat yourself to buying an SSD another time. For example, for New Year!

And the assembly turned out great. The GeForce GTX 1070 crushes any modern games at maximum speed in both Full HD and WQHD resolution. In the case of AMD platform Overclocking a CPU is a vital activity. If you want to unleash the full potential of the adapter, of course. The issue of processor dependence is discussed in more detail in this article.

If anything, I always advocate overclocking non-overclocking Intel Skylake chips. This is a profitable business. There are pitfalls, but in most cases the game is worth the candle. There is enough budget for a Z170 board, but you have to choose among budget boards. If overclocking is not planned, then it makes sense to take either a cheaper motherboard based on the B150/H170 Express logic, or for the same money purchase a device with higher-quality network and sound controllers.

In principle, by replacing the GeForce GTX 1070 with a GeForce GTX 1080 in the optimal build, you will get another advanced build that will be even faster in games. In this case, you will definitely have to overclock the Core i5. At least up to 4.5 GHz. But I suggest investing in Core i7 as long as your budget allows. The power of the GeForce GTX 1070 for Full HD will last for a long time, and the platform (board, processor, memory) will last even longer. With a Core i7 (overclocked if desired), you will eventually install, for example, a second video card. Or you will buy another new product: GeForce GTX 1270 or whatever it will be called in a few years. The proposed boards based on the Z170 chipset have better functionality. Plus, the assembly includes better cooling, housing, power and, of course, a 240-256 GB solid-state drive.

If the computer is also used to work in resource-intensive applications, then the Core i7-6700 is in every way preferable to the Core i5-6600.

The only alternative to the LGA1151 platform and the Core i7-6700K processor in particular is only LGA2011-v3 and Core i7-5820K/6800K chips. But they just cost noticeably more. Core i7-5820K is priced on average at 30,000 rubles, Core i7-6800K - at 35,000 rubles. But you still have to buy a more expensive board based on X99 Express logic. It makes sense to overpay for six cores and, accordingly, 12 threads if you use your computer for more than just entertainment. In other cases, the Core i7-6700K can even handle two GeForce GTX 1080s in SLI mode at Ultra HD resolution. Checked personally.

Building a powerful gaming computer in 2016 for playing new games on ultra settings

For some reason, I have never posted photos of assemblies of top-end gaming computers before, as if I only assemble or . That's not true, I build top-end gaming PCs. It so happened that until this moment there was no time to photograph and post the assembly of a gaming computer on elite hardware, and it’s time to fix this (= Assembling a gaming computer This format is not a budget affair, so on my recommendation the customer agreed to wait for the components to be delivered from Germany. It took four weeks, but we saved a significant amount compared to the cost of hardware in Russia. So we collected inexpensive gaming computer. I also have a computer assembled with delivery from Germany. For expensive assemblies from 50,000 rubles. This results in significant savings.
  • The budget is conditionally limited. There was no money for two video cards in SLI, but for a configuration with Core i7 + nVidia GTX 980 Ti was enough
  • Task - build a powerful gaming computer 2016 for games new products in 4k UltraHD resolution
  • The time limit is unlimited, so I ordered some components from Germany
  • Future possible SLI with second GTX 980 Ti envisioned
  • Components (for example, video card and processor) were partially ordered from Germany
  • Computer without backlight
  • No unnecessary “show-offs”

Gaming PC Configuration

After a month of waiting, I received the components in my hands

The processor is packaged well. Sellers in Russia don’t pack this way, unfortunately.

His Majesty Intel Core i7-6700k

I chose Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI as the motherboard. As the name suggests, it supports SLI mode. I personally have the same motherboard, I’m using it to create an article

Recently I had a desire to update my PC, but this is not just a desire, but one can already say a necessity, because lately I really started to miss the performance of my current computer.

My “old man” is unlikely to handle new games, and photo processing and video rendering on my computer is perhaps the most painful topic. Yes, games may not matter to me, but when it comes to work, I would really like to have normal iron, and in fact, that’s why I thought about buying a new system unit.

Great! We can say that half the work is done.

What's next? And then I had to spend a lot of time studying the computer industry market in search of the most optimal configuration in terms of price/quality ratio, and this is the assembly I ended up with.

System unit for work and games

Anyone who knows even a little about computers and components, looking at their characteristics, probably realized that this is perhaps one of the top (or pre-top) configurations today, and if so, it means it won’t be cheap, but I I’ll explain why I chose this particular assembly.

CPU

As a processor for a powerful PC, I chose an Intel Core i7-6700K with a clock frequency of 4.0Ghz, although in addition to this model I also considered other, no less attractive “stones”.

While searching on the Internet, I quite often came across information about the quad-core Intel Core i5-6400 processor, which, when used rationally, produces a maximum of 4.7 Ghz when overclocked on the bus. At the same time, this processor is much cheaper than the one I am going to buy, but why did I decide that?

It's simple - the i5-6400 is an excellent option for a gaming computer, but Intel Core i7-6700K four cores that operate in 8-thread mode, which significantly affects the speed of rendering video materials. In addition, the “K” index in this processor means that it can also be overclocked, only by the multiplier, and not by the bus. By the way, just recently Intel banned overclocking of non-K processors, which in turn significantly affects their wear rate.

Of course, I considered other options. I thought it would be nice to save $35 and get Intel processor Core i7-6700 without “K” and overclock it. On Aliexpress you can find engineering versions of processors that cost $150 less and, according to numerous data, also perform well when overclocked, even though they were not intended for sale at all.

I considered both cheaper options and more expensive options, but in the end I definitely decided against AMD-based processors.

Why? Because they get very hot!

Motherboard

My choice is MSI Z170A GAMING M3. Choosing a motherboard for powerful computer I could have stuck with cheaper options, but what attracted me to this particular one?

Well, firstly, motherboards based on the Z170 chipset are best suited for overclocking processors both on the multiplier and on the bus, if overclocking on the multiplier is blocked.

This motherboard has good built-in sound - Realtek ALC1150. Maximum frequency for RAM is 3600 MHz. And also, this motherboard supports SLi mode - in other words, you can plug several video cards into it at the same time.

Besides this, MSI Z170A GAMING M3 motherboard It has the necessary set of connectors for me.

CPU cooler

Everything is simple here.
Zalman CNPS10X Performa+ is one of the most budget-friendly, but at the same time effective options for cooling the processor.

5 heat pipes, a large fan with a diameter of 120 mm and so on.
Although another option is at the moment I'm looking at the Thermalright Macho cooler.

Video card

Palit GeForce GTX 1070 Video Card GameRock This is one of the top video cards today. There is also the GTX 1080 and GTX 980 Ti, which I also paid attention to, but they both cost much more.

The video card I chose has 8 gigabytes of memory and, no less important, the number of stream processors, which have a significant impact on the quality of video processing and rendering speed, is 1920. When using CUDA during video rendering, it is the number of stream processors, or as they are also called, shader processors. processors play a huge role. By the way, the GTX 980 Ti has 2816 of them, but less memory – 6Gb.

Random access memory (RAM)

For RAM, I chose the Kingston HyperX FURY 2x8GB DDR4 kit kit. This is perhaps one of the cheapest options, with relatively good performance and cost.

This RAM has low timings - CL 14T, good frequency- 2133 MHz and good overclocking potential.

Although if you abandon the brand, from appearance and from the kit kit, you can take two of the simplest strips separately, which will work no worse than this one. So the RAM is still in question, although the benchmark is not bad.

SSD drive

Kingston SSDNow UV400 240GB is SSD drive , which works faster than usual hard drive. I decided to take it first operating system and installed programs.

Now I have 2 HDD drive 1Tb in volume, so this will be quite enough for me. 2 HDD + 1 SSD.

power unit

AeroCool Strike-X 600 power supply 600W.

Perhaps this is the weakest point in my powerful build. Why? Because now it is fashionable to buy power supplies with a huge power reserve, even if this is not necessary as such. In general, for my computer configuration, 500W will be enough, and this power supply was simply on sale, so it is included in the calculations.

On the other hand, if you install another video card, and I remind you that our platform can operate in sli/crossfire mode, then the power reserve may not be enough.

Although no one bothers you to change the power supply when you need to install an additional video card.

By the way, for those who don't know how to choose a power supply for a computer, I’ll give you a hint - there are several specialized services for calculating power on the network. You simply list all the components there and get a specific number.

Here is one of such services: https://ru.msi.com/power-supply-calculator/

Computer case

In fact, I have several options for the body, but AeroCool VS-1 is, let’s say, intermediate between them all.

I have practically no requirements for the case. The main thing is that it is cheaper, fits in a computer desk, and matches the height of the processor cooler, since the one I had in the package turned out to be rather large. I would also like the power button to be on the front, and not on the top, as is often the case now.

In my notes there are cases with a glass door, and with a backlight, and gaming ones, but frankly speaking, the case will just sit under the table, so I don’t see the need to buy something unusual. The main thing for me is the filling!

As a matter of fact, you just saw my configuration, but I simply have to warn you that this is just a tentative configuration of a powerful computer that I would like to order. For now, this configuration in different online stores costs from 1250 to 1400 dollars and that’s why I still haven’t ordered it yet - the price turned out to be quite heavy for me.

This configuration and prices are valid at the end of 2016 - beginning of 2017. After the new year, in connection with the release of new processors codenamed microarchitecture - Kaby Lake, prices will presumably drop and then, I think, it will be possible to safely buy such an assembly.

In one of the following articles I will talk about best prices on computers, about the best online stores and about where, or rather who, you shouldn’t buy hardware from. I hope you liked my review of a powerful system unit. Good luck everyone!
