Jet compact radio set. Jet radio review! Live

Home / Mobile devices

I wish all my readers good health and good health! Today Master Sergei and I will be repairing the Jet mini radio, whose call button is broken. Such walkie-talkies are very convenient on hikes, so as not to get lost in the forest, during the construction of multi-story buildings, for guarding large warehouses, and so on. Jet mini has 8 tuning channels and provides half-duplex communication - this is when the walkie-talkie can either receive a signal or transmit it at one point in time. The mode is changed by pressing the PTT or button.

Let's get to know Jet mini better

The radio has 8 communication channels at frequencies from 446.00625 MHz to 446.09375 MHz, output power 0.5 W. The operating time from about 500 mAh is 20 hours, and the reliable reception/transmission distance is up to 3 km in the field. In urban environments, the communication range can be reduced to 500 m.

Disassembling the Jet mini radio

So, if the signal transmission button on your Jet mini radio does not work, that is, the red LED does not light up when you press it, as was the case with Sergei, then most likely there is a problem with the button or the board. Let's disassemble the Jet mini radio.

First you need to remove the battery and use an awl to remove the five rubber plugs on the back of the radio. Under the plugs there are screws that must be unscrewed. A latch awaits us at the top of the end of the antenna; we move it away and unlatch it.

Jet mini radio repair

After disassembly, we see a simple Jet mini radio device with a monoboard. The bottom button on the radio board turns the built-in one on and off and is rarely used. The top button on the radio board is responsible for turning on the signal transmission mode and is used very often, so the degree of wear is always higher than that of the bottom. It was the top button that became unusable. This occurs due to oxidation, debris or carbon deposits on the membrane contacts.

It is best to replace the faulty button, since many different types are sold in radio stores. But if there is nothing to replace the button, as happened in our case, cleaning the contacts with a contact cleaner spray or an eraser and alcohol helps a lot. The advantage of the spray is that it can penetrate non-removable buttons. For greater reliability, we desoldered and swapped the buttons.

Also one of the diseases is the keyboard of the Jet mini radio. Dust and moisture get on it and, as often happens in TV remote controls, the buttons begin to work poorly. When disassembling, it is best to clean them from dust with a brush and from oxides with a soft eraser and alcohol while the radio is disassembled.

After the maintenance of the Jet mini radio has been completed, we put everything back together and install the battery or three AA batteries.

Other problems with the Jet mini radio

The instructions for the radio have several examples and possible reasons faults:

  1. There is no power - you need to check that the batteries are connected correctly and the voltage on them.
  2. Poor signal reception - increase the volume or move closer to the signal source.
  3. The reception/transmission channel does not change - the buttons do not work and need to be cleaned or the batteries are low.
  4. Limited range - go out into the open to improve the radio wave propagation channel, and also check the battery charge.
  5. The sound is distorted and hard to hear - the communication range is too long or the battery is low. You also need to check the antennas to see if they have fallen off.

Later, Sergei tested the radios in real conditions in a damp forest. The radios provided stable communication at a distance of 1200 m (!) in a straight line according to GPS readings. I’ll wrap it up here and wish you quick and easy repairs.

Master Sergei and Master Soldering worked hard for you.

I will agree with the above. From the fields from the hill to the center of the urban village from a distance of about 3 km, the signal passes with interference, in most transmissions the speech is unintelligible. Inside the same village, at a distance of about 1.5 km, you can’t hear each other at all. The batteries were fully charged. I expected more.
We use it for fishing - there are no complaints, but the distance between the radios does not exceed 500 meters. Soon I’ll take a Yaesu VX-6R or similar - I’ll check the quality of communication through it on Jets.

Advantages:

Long work from a set of batteries. One day I lost one of my radios. A day later, with the help of a second one, I found it in the grass, taking into account that it had rained at night.

Flaws:

Insufficient range of high-quality voice transmission.

Period of use:

more than a year

Tested in the city (Zheleznodorozhny), the range is from 200 to 950 meters, the connection is lost at 200 meters, then it works at 950 meters... maximum range Zheleznodorozhny St. Yubileynaya 14a to the TNK gas station on Avtozavodskaya, apparently depends on the building, wi-fi , power lines, etc. I haven’t checked outside the city, but I think it will be 3 km. take it for sure.

    Advantages:

Vibration alert, the ability to use AAA batteries, there are subcodes, that is, you can encrypt a little so as not to interfere with other people.

    Flaws:

The quality of soldering of parts is not very good. (I don’t recommend dropping them, in case something flies off)

    Period of use:

    less than a month

I bought the kit four years ago. This year I forgot one walkie-talkie outside and after the rain it stopped working. I bought a new set. Now I have three radios

    Advantages:

There are a lot of advantages - read the characteristics. Everything is written correctly except (this applies to all walkie-talkies) the range, but it works out its 5 km in the village clearly

    Flaws:

    Not found

    Period of use:

    more than a year

I haven't tried the other functions, but I'll try again.
I couldn't use it as a baby monitor.

    Advantages:

    1. Well made convenient case and buttons.
    2. Multifunctionality.
    3. Good equipment, chargers, headsets, etc.

    Flaws:

    1. Even on slightly hilly terrain, the declared range of 10 km is not maintained at all, moreover, even at a kilometer the connection is very unstable, with interference, this is in the absence of high-rise buildings, only village houses and gentle hills.
    2. The voice activation function works every other time. According to reviews from friends, if you turn it on for any length of time, the batteries run out very quickly.

    Period of use:

    several months

An ordinary walkie-talkie, amateur, but quite reliable

    Advantages:

I have been using it since 2009, an advantage in ski areas. It passed the test of snow (dropped more than once) and frost and other bad weather. Sub-channels are very helpful because the main channels are usually completely filled with all kinds of audiences. The battery lasts quite well in the mountains for a “climbing day”.

    Flaws:

In the mountains, the range of action, of course, is not large, about 1 km max. But I didn’t expect more from a radio in this price range

    Period of use:

    more than a year

My wife gave me two sets as a gift three years ago (check the contents, it can be different even from one seller), I use it at my neighbors’ dacha or when we go mushroom picking, it’s more convenient than shouting.
Think about what is better, the equipment or the quality and range of communication.
and by the way, I use the included charging glass, but the rest very rarely and only because it’s a pity when it sits idle...

    Advantages:

    Decent equipment:
    case
    charging glass
    cigarette lighter charging
headset (earphone or walkie-talkie on a wire)
    there is vibration
    clip on the body
    AAA batteries - 4 pcs.
that's all, the positives are over(((

    Flaws:

very short reception range, the actual range in the gardening community is 500m, maximum 1km line of sight on the road, there are no power lines or anything else nearby, the connection is already floating.
there is not even a quarter of direct (visible) coverage of the declared 10 km!!!
the cheapest motorola bought about ten years ago, and even at the stated 5 km it took further, there was coverage for 600-700 meters.

    Period of use:

    more than a year

We use walkie-talkies for boarding and snowboarding mainly, but sometimes outside the city. The range, of course, varies depending on the terrain - on rough terrain it took up to 3 kilometers, on hilly or mountainous terrain it may be less due to interference. Once we lost one of the radios in the snow. At first we gave it up, but after three hours of searching we found it and it worked great. Apparently moisture did not have time to penetrate inside. It lasts a long time without a battery and does not require constant recharging. There are also subchannels, which is very convenient, for example, if you are traveling somewhere in two cars on a busy highway. all other channels are crowded with other interested people, and you seem to be on your own wavelength. So these radios are enough for our purposes and they often help us out.

    Brief description

Jet! Live is a compact PMR (Personal Mobile Radio) radio station that provides communication at a distance of up to 3 kilometers. The radio station has automatic noise reduction, scanning and channel monitoring modes, as well as a battery saving mode.

    Design and controls

Sporty design, ergonomic body, compact dimensions– Jet does it all! Live is the ideal radio station for tourists and road trip lovers. Thanks to rubber inserts on the sides, the walkie-talkie does not slip in your hand, and the PTT (push-to-talk) button is located so that it can be pressed comfortably no matter which hand you hold the walkie-talkie in - your right or your left.

Next to the built-in antenna there is a headset jack and charger. The front panel has buttons for turning on the radio, menu, ringtone, channel scanning and monitoring, volume up and down. There is also a button to turn on the keypad lock mode, which will help you avoid accidental key presses.

The backlit LCD display is small and practical, angled and therefore clearly visible even in bright sunlight. In addition to the active channel number, volume level and transmit/receive icons, it also displays a battery charge indicator and icons for active scanning or channel monitoring modes. After the end of the transmission, when the PTT (push-to-talk) button is released, the radio station sends a short beep to confirm the end of the connection. This signal indicates that another radio station may be transmitting a response message. There is also a special button for calling a radio station - you can “call” your partner before you start talking.

    Channel scanning and monitoring

By default Jet! Live operates in automatic noise reduction mode, filtering out static noise (such as air conditioning or highway rumble). You can disable this feature by switching to monitoring mode, which allows you to hear even very weak signals, which can be useful in difficult terrain. True, in this case you will also hear noise. It is worth paying attention to the channel scanning mode. In it, the radio station searches for an active signal sequentially on all frequencies available to it - you can listen to several channels at the same time or switch the transmission to the one on which at the moment there is a conversation going on.

    Economical energy consumption

A nice feature of the Jet radio! Live is an energy saving mode. If you don't use the walkie talkie for 4 seconds, it goes into low power mode. This mode does not affect the transmitting ability of the radio in any way, but significantly increases the time battery life– from 12 to 20 hours. When you resume using the radio, it returns to full power mode.
