Nokia tv e71 technical specifications. "Nokia E71" - a detailed review of the phone

Home / Operating systems

In 2018, which will begin soon, the public will, of course, be delighted with many new powerful smartphones. But many users still prefer simple push-button phones. These users remember the Nokia brand, whose products were mass-produced before the era of touch devices. The Nokia E71 is likely to return next year. But already in a new quality - a telephone of the high-speed era mobile Internet.

In 2017, the legendary Nokia brand returned to the smartphone industry and introduced a number of devices in this popular category of devices, including Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8. But the Nokia brand, still loved by many users, also released new version incredibly popular in the past push-button Nokia phone 3310. Anvinraj Valiyathara on the resource pages playfuldroid.com a new message was reviewed news.mydrivers.com about another possible remake - another phone from among the most famous Nokia devices in the history of the mobile industry, which may be shown to the public after the New Year.

According to information that appeared on the Internet based on a “leak,” we may be talking about the Nokia E71 (2018). The phone will feature support for two SIM cards. Its software platform will likely be Kai OS. Thus, the device will not be a smartphone. The new product will be equipped with that design element that a number of users so lack in modern all-touch smartphones - a full-size physical QWERTY keyboard.

It is expected that Nokia E71 (2018) will be equipped with a 3.5-inch touch screen. It should be remembered that relatively recently, before the mass distribution of devices with large screens, this display size was considered quite sufficient for a smartphone. The display resolution of the yet to be presented Nokia E71 (2018) device will be 480p. The new product will be based on the Snapdragon 205 chipset. Volume RAM version of Nokia E71, which may be released next year, will be 1 gigabyte. The capacity of the device’s built-in storage is 8 gigabytes. But the phone has a slot for microSD memory cards, which will allow you to expand accessible to the user device storage capacity.

On the back panel of the Nokia E71 (2018) there will be a 3-megapixel camera. Many users will be pleased that the battery of the new smartphone will be removable. Additionally, it is also noted that the price of the new product will be “well below ~$150.”

Additionally, it is reported that the new push-button telephone Nokia brand with support for 4G networks may debut in early 2018. Specific date the announcement of the Nokia E71 (2018) is currently unknown, even speculative.

It is assumed that new phone may debut simultaneously with Nokia 9, the most anticipated device from the incredibly popular brand that returned to the smart phone market at the beginning of this year.

Previously by Shannon Liao on the resource pages theverge.com proposed technical specifications Nokia 9, which are reportedly based on FCC data.

It is Nokia 9 that will become a smartphone that makes model range Nokia devices, including budget models and the mid-range device Nokia 6 and the flagship Nokia 8.

Reportedly Nokia smartphone 9 will be equipped with a 5.5-inch OLED display. The screen manufacturer for Nokia 9 is LG. It should be noted that the display will be an important difference between the Nokia 9 and the previously debuted flagship device Nokia 8, which uses an IPS LCD screen.

The Nokia 9 hardware platform will be the flagship chipset of 2017 devices - Snapdragon 835. The capacity of the battery powering the device in Nokia 9 will be 3250 mAh.

On the back panel of Nokia 9 there will be a dual camera, in which a 12-megapixel sensor will be combined with a 13-megapixel one. However, dual cameras today are already common to many smart phones and not only to products belonging to the flagship category. The front panel of the new product will likely be equipped with a 5-megapixel selfie camera.

It is not known what the volume of RAM of the flagship smartphone from the Nokia brand in question will be, but the capacity of its built-in storage will probably be 128 gigabytes. Preset software new smartphone will be based on the operating Android system 8.0 Oreo, introduced by search giant Google, which develops the most popular software platform for smartphones, in 2017.

Based on what previously appeared back in October 2017 in OnLeaks Based on the 3D rendering, users already have an idea of the Nokia 9 as a smartphone with a full-screen display, which has become one of the most noticeable industry trends in the final technological season of 2017. This render also shows the black back panel of the yet-to-be-unveiled smartphone and its blue sides.

General characteristics

Type

Deciding on the type of device (phone or smartphone?) is quite simple. If you need a simple and inexpensive device for calls and SMS, it is recommended to choose a telephone. A smartphone is more expensive, but it offers a wide variety of options: games, videos, the Internet, thousands of programs for all occasions. However, its battery life is significantly less than that of a regular phone.

Advantages of the phone:

First of all, the QWERTY keyboard. Typing messages in ICQ is simple and pleasant. It’s a little uncomfortable at first, but you should understand that this is an ordinary computer keyboard, as the typing speed increases sharply (Tip: press the buttons not with the pad of your finger, but with the very tip or side - this way there are fewer mistakes). Secondly - the camera. I use it to photograph assignments and schedules at a university - everything turns out clearly and readable - thanks to autofocus (button "2"). Well, the horizontal layout of the screen. Websites, books, photographs, films - now everything is human, like on a computer.

Disadvantages of the phone:

Already mentioned - the case is easily soiled (in the end it got on my fingers, fortunately it doesn’t interfere with use), the lack of stunting or plastic protection on sale (in the end I bought protective film and covered the screen with it), and I carry the phone itself in a leather belt bag), not best quality strap (very comfortable, but after a couple of months it has already begun to fray) and headphones (do not fit very well in the ears). Well, you can also point out the disadvantages of having to get used to typing on the keyboard for several days, but, I want to say, after you get used to it (it only took me three days of everyday use), a regular telephone keyboard causes disgust, and those who use it feel sympathy.

Comment about the phone:

Overall, the model met expectations by 120%. In particular, I was quite pleased powerful processor and a large amount of RAM, which made it possible to comfortably use several programs at once. Speaking of software for smart phones. If you don’t install programs on your smart phone, why did you even buy it? I would like to name a few programs that you should definitely have: QIP PDA - multi-protocol IM client (ICQ, MAgent, Jabber...). Shows incoming messages with a flickering icon, on top of all open programs. Alon MP3 Dictaphone - the best voice recorder I've ever seen cCam - takes photos without sound (can't do video) CorePlayer - video player, can do mp4 (and more) ABBYY Lingvo x3 mobile - the best dictionary of foreign words ( Lingvo 12 will do too)Qreader - best ereader txt-booksResco Viewer - a superb photo viewer, many times cooler than the standard one! (control on digital buttons, how to use - see the end of the review) PowerMP3 - music player, which pleasantly surprised me with its competent interface (supports changing skins), abundance of functions and customization of the button on the headset (for example, it’s very convenient for me to switch to the next song in transport or on the go with a button). I also highly recommend.mConnection - Internet traffic counter. Not a fountain, but the best I could find. If you find a better one, let me know! FreeTimeSync - clock synchronization: with servers on the Internet, via GPS or via SMS (I haven’t tried this option). NiceCalc - Multifunctional and convenient calculator. Handy Profiles - Profile Manager. It is convenient to set the profile without sound for the duration of the couple, after which the mode that was before is turned on. Handy Clock is an excellent calendar, alarm clock, timer, stopwatch... But install version 4.05, because on the next ones, I didn’t find how to set the alarm volume (who knows - tell me?) As for toys, I advise you to play NOM, a very original thing!) And this advice: by double-clicking the half-shaded square in the lower corner, you will get a regular digital keyboard in the center, like other phones. This helps if a program or game does not respond to pressing seemingly correct keys. The mode is turned off by pressing the same key once. And one more thing: The language is switched with the combination Shift+Ctrl

Nokia did more than work on bugs before releasing a QWERTY smartphone Nokia E71. The device combines a functional business assistant and a much more attractive appearance compared to its predecessors.

Initially, the idea of the E line (in particular, smartphones with a full keyboard layout) was aimed exclusively at business users: maximum functions for work, Wi-Fi, lack of a camera and other multimedia features. In fact, compliance with these conditions can only be observed in the first sign - Nokia E61. In subsequent reincarnations, almost all multimedia capabilities were returned to please the consumer.

The market for phones with a full keyboard is not dynamic; its target audience is narrow; announcements of such devices are rare outside of America - the domain of BlackBerry devices. In this light, it is all the more important to update this segment.

After the release of the newest model in the line of QWERTY devices, a serious gap appeared between the device indexes (after the sequential release of Nokia E61 and E61i). However, the difference in indices clearly demonstrates significant differences in functional richness and positioning.

Design

It was the appearance (before the appearance of the Nokia E71) that remained a weak point in Nokia QWERTY smartphones. It was difficult to call them anything other than “shovels,” “scoops,” or other sandbox attributes. As a result, future owners purchased such models solely for functionality, turning a blind eye to design.

In the case of the Nokia E71 design, there is a significant step forward. The smartphone has become much more attractive in appearance, which means it has gotten rid of the repulsive factor.

The dimensions of the device are comparable to those of conventional phones, with the exception of the width. However, it does not cause any discomfort when wearing, and is compensated by its thinness (10 mm). Next to the E61i, the new product looks more compact and neater.

The smartphone has acquired a softer, rounded shape, visually making it smaller. The use of metal and chromed plastic certainly adds points in the “status” column. Unfortunately, on the metal (from which it is made back cover and part of the front panel) fingerprints remain.

The assembly of the model leaves a pleasant impression; there is a feeling of reliability.

Perhaps the only element that does not correspond to the strict design is the power button, which has an unexpected red color. The key looks out of place.

Next to it, at the top end, is an external speaker. It sounds quite loud and no less high quality for that reason. On the right side, above the volume rocker, there is a 2.5 mm headphone output, on the left there is a compartment for microSD memory cards covered with a flap.

Scope of delivery

In addition to the standard kilograms of instructions and a charger (which has become even more compact), the buyer is offered several really useful accessories. Firstly, this is a dense and thin case. It fits the smartphone and is intended to protect the device; you will have to carry it in the same pocket.

Secondly, this is a wired stereo headset Nokia HS-47, which comes with the latest products from the Finnish company. The tablets provide sufficient volume reserve and will certainly suit most owners.

Keyboard

Without any exaggeration, the keyboard unit is one of the leading criteria when choosing. Who needs a QWERTY smartphone with an awkward keyboard?

The consequence of miniaturization (including a reduction in width by 12 mm compared to the E61) was a denser, crowded arrangement of keys. On the one hand, this allows you to comfortably use the keyboard using only one hand. On the other hand, this naturally influenced “two-handed” typing: people with large fingers cannot avoid false clicks.

The keys are made of rubberized plastic, each of them has a “cushion” shape. Russian and English languages are printed in different colors, this makes it much easier to find the required letter. It is also convenient that in the bottom row there are separate buttons for punctuation marks and some other symbols (“.”,” “,”,” “:,” “;,” “@,” “/”). It is worth noting that you can switch from E61/E61i to a new keyboard without any getting used to it.

The navigation block was also affected by the decrease in free space. Four PIM keys (menu/desktop, calendar, contacts, email) are flanked by standard receive and end buttons and two soft keys. As a result, the finger again ends up missing the direction of the navigation key, which can be very annoying. By the way, the user can change the purpose of the functional buttons at will.

The keys are illuminated with white LEDs. This best option, which prevents the symbols on the keys from merging and does not dazzle in the dark. In the menu you can select the “breathing” effect, when the LED “breathes” under navigation key. The function is interesting both from a decorative point of view and from a practical one: when the display is turned off in standby mode, “breathing” confirms the active state of the smartphone.

Display

Due to the non-standard wide body, the display retained the 3:4 aspect ratio, but changed its orientation to horizontal. The screen has smaller physical dimensions than the Nokia E61, and still has the same QVGA resolution.

Accordingly, image quality is at an excellent level, grain is indistinguishable. But it's still QVGA - apparently, the day when Nokia abandons the 320x240 resolution will be a great one.

For greater safety, the display is protected from external damage by glass. This does not impair brightness or color rendition in any way.

Hardware filling

IN Nokia E71 One of the most powerful ARM 11 processors with a frequency of 369 MHz is installed. The amount of RAM is 128 MB, which is 2 times more than in the previous generation of Nokia smartphones.

This gives excellent results in terms of performance: the model allows you to work in parallel with several “difficult” applications. Using, for example, the built-in browser, you can open several tabs without thinking.

Desk

The smartphone is controlled by Symbian OS v9.2 FP 3.1. This means that inside it is identical to another new product from the company - the slider (the models were announced together).

The desktop is notable for its Modes mode. The utility provides for the creation of two desktop design options. In each mode, you can set an individual theme, select special Active Standby elements, hot links, etc. In its most general form, the program is presented as the ability to switch between “work” and “leisure.”

Utilities

It is unnecessary to dwell in detail on the features common to the Symbian OS, so we will pay attention to individual features Nokia E71.

First of all, PIM functions stand out for the better - positioning, after all, is obligatory. Searching for contacts, for example, can be done directly from the desktop. All you have to do is start typing letters (not even numbers), and a special wizard will offer you a choice of contacts suitable by name.

Directly in the application of the same name using a pop-up context menu You can select the method of communication with the subscriber. By the way, we must admit that Nokia has done a great job on the usual functions (such as contacts and calendar), they have become much more attractive in appearance and easier to use.

Thanks to the horizontally located display, the calendar is divided into 2 areas: the grid of numbers of the month is directly reflected in the left, and the tasks for the selected day are displayed in the right. In addition, there is an option to view the week, day and list of active tasks.

Particular attention is paid to the smartphone email- the developers probably expect that they will actively use it. The setup process is reduced to a minimum: just enter the address and password for it, additional information assembled automatically by the master.

In general, when exploring the possibilities, it is difficult not to pay attention to increasingly closer integration mobile devices with the Internet. More and more pre-installed applications offer to connect to the network for a wider list of opportunities.

Nokia continues to conquer the Internet space through its own efforts, and it already has something to offer. Menu item “Download!” continues to fill up, uploading photos to the Ovi portal becomes available.

The list of applications consists of installers of various programs. The company decided to leave the choice to the owner. Those interested will be able to find an international guide (on hotels, currencies, weather, etc. - again an Internet connection is required), a sports coach and a set of solitaire games.

If entertainment apps are a matter of taste, then office programs already fully installed and ready to go. It is especially convenient that the editing mode is available in the pre-installed Quick Office package without any requirement to purchase or update the program. This makes the keyboard even more useful: you can edit text and create your own from scratch.

Another important application is Nokia Maps. You can receive the coordinates of your location from the built-in GPS receiver with the support of base stations (A-GPS mode). The map can be viewed in 2D, 3D, with or without landscape modes. There is a search for points of interest (hotels, bars, shops), which is carried out via the Internet, so the database is interactive.

In a separate paragraph, I would like to mention that Minsk is already listed in the database. Moreover, on the map of our capital there are 2 lines marked - these are Independence and Pobediteley Avenues. For some reason, foreign manufacturers decided that this information would be sufficient for both local residents and visitors.

Communications

Communications presented full set: there is an infrared port, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. The search for hot spots occurs mainly in background, just activate WLAN with one click from your desktop.

The software creators envisage that users will quite often use wireless network. Wi-Fi is always offered as a connection as alternative option, conversations through it and connection to a work network (intranet) are possible.

There are no complaints about the operation of Bluetooth: the speed is high, there was no hostility towards devices from other manufacturers. It is commendable that the A2DP profile is supported.

Camera, gallery, player

The built-in photo module cannot boast of the Carl Zeiss brand. However, the camera promises 3.2 megapixels with autofocus. There are some complaints regarding the operation of the latter: when commanded to take a photo, the camera does not focus; you need to press a key on the keyboard separately. Apparently, this was done to prevent employees from properly removing confidential papers.

Due to the lack of a dedicated shooting key, problems arise when accessing camera settings. You must wait until the auxiliary panel disappears so that when you click “OK” you will not be taken back to the settings menu.

The quality of photographs is at a decent level, color rendition is natural. Unfortunately, when you zoom in you can see a fair amount of noise. Indoors, at short distances, the flash illuminates the subject a little and does not add additional sharpness.

When shooting video, it seems that the video sequence is a little slow. However, when watching the finished video, this is not so noticeable. But it is very convenient to view photos and videos on a widescreen display, the image takes up the entire screen.

The music player is standard for smartphones; its functionality is not limited by the business focus of the model. There is support for album covers, but visualization is not available.

Autonomous operation

An impressive BP-4L battery with a capacity of 1500 mAh provided about 2 days battery life Nokia E71. All this time the device was in use: they printed on it, played games, listened to music, and browsed the Internet. It is worth immediately warning that if GPS and WLAN are always turned on, the battery life will be significantly reduced.

Conclusion

Nokia E71 can no longer be called a niche device. The model claims to be popular among a wider audience compared to the E61 or E61i.

Judge for yourself: an excellent functional set (including multimedia), a more attractive design (the white version will certainly appeal to young people), a full-fledged keyboard. The smartphone will be of interest not only to business users, but also to avid chatters, SMS maniacs and victims of social networks.

The current cost can be attributed to the shortcomings of the model. However, over time the price will fall, and then we can expect genuine interest in the device.

Against the backdrop of the rather controversial design tricks of the N-series, which are not entirely to the liking of consumers, Nokia's E-line remains very pleasant for buyers - both in design and functionality.

Thank you information portal Onliner for providing the review.

Prices for Nokia E71

: If we undertake simple research to study the demand for mobile phones corporate segment, we will soon find out that such devices occupy an extremely small percentage of sales of the total. And this despite the fact that all more or less significant companies, not to mention large firms, themselves equip their employees with communication means.

In our area, this specificity is only gaining momentum, but this is exactly the case abroad in the CIS countries. At the same time, there is a rather interesting trend - the corporate sector is actively purchasing business-class phones, instead of paying close attention to devices aimed exclusively at employees of large companies. Yes, yes, we are talking about those people who have to constantly respond to emails, maintain contact with several subscribers through conferences and, what can I say, simply have a reliable and convenient means of communication.

It was for such customers that Nokia created the E-Series phones. These smartphones were based on the classic Series 60, supplemented with applications necessary for a corporate employee and deprived of many unnecessary ones. in this case multimedia gadgets. However, you yourself know about this. You also probably know that, in general, E-series phones sold much worse than planned. We will not go into the specifics of the current situation, we will only note that the potential audience, namely the corporate segment, received these devices rather coldly, and the mass public did not support the devices, which were boring for the average consumer.

In addition, QWERTY devices stood out from the usual form factors, which were initially intended as niche devices, ideal for people who needed a powerful and reliable assistant for mobile messaging. We are talking about and. It must be said that these devices were indispensable for those who used all their capabilities for their intended purpose. On the other hand, the percentage of such users was extremely small and could not ensure adequate sales growth.

This led to Nokia deciding to approach the problem from a different angle. No, no one, of course, was going to close this direction of mobile devices, the company’s management just slightly revised the positioning of the models and sent it in a slightly different direction. A clear example of this is. With the release of this model, E-series phones have become much closer to the common man than to the mythical corporate user. Accordingly, sales levels began to grow. It was decided to apply exactly the same approach to the model with a built-in hardware keyboard - the one that was supposed to replace the Nokia E61i. It should be noted that now the vision of what a communicator of a similar form factor should look like is fundamentally different from the usual E61i. No, the concept has remained the same, but the approach to its implementation in practice has changed radically. The developers decided that the successor to the Nokia E61i simply must ensure a good level of sales, and it can only do this if it becomes “closer to the people.” This is how the hot new product of the season appeared – the Nokia E71 keyboard communicator. The phone has become not only one of the cutest representatives of its small family, but also acquired many functional features that previously only multimedia devices could boast of. Finally, in order to finally stir up interest in the new product, we will inform you that it simply has no competitors in the market. at the moment. Well, let's see what Nokia has prepared for us - the forecasts look very promising.

Specifications table

Scope of delivery

The communicator arrived to us in a small box, the contents of which were difficult to find fault with even if you wanted to. So, the package looks like this:

  • Nokia E71 communicator;

  • battery BP-4L;

  • charger AC-5;

  • USB cable CA-101 for synchronization with PC;

  • wired stereo headset HS-47;

  • case;

  • hand strap;

  • instructions, disk with software;

  • microSD memory card.

The delivery package is quite standard for this type of device, but we would still like to note some points.

The headset, USB cable and charger are of no interest, since they have already caught our eye more than once.

At the same time, the case deserves special attention, since it is made of high-quality, pleasant-to-touch leather with a red interior.

This minor design move is certainly a tribute to the new positioning of the device, since in a purely corporate environment such trifles are useless.

The leather wrist strap has a similar color design.

Appearance. Design

The most interesting part of rethinking the approach begins with this part of our review today. Nokia new The appearance of phones is similar to the form factor. For comparison, we will refer to the Nokia E61i more than once.

Looking at the E71, we can't say that the design has changed fundamentally. This would be wrong, since in this case the company could lose the existing contingent of users loyal to the concept of keyboard communicators. In addition, Nokia E61 and Nokia E61i were very convenient to use everyday use. But they also had a clear disadvantage - a very specific utilitarian design, which was perfectly suited to the corporate sector and certainly did not fit into the concepts familiar to the average user.

Large sizes, gray plastic, and a scoop-like shape certainly could not attract a buyer who would like to emphasize his image. Finally, don’t think that only men use such phones. Let's not forget about the girls, in whose gentle hands the Nokia E61 certainly looked like a shovel. Of course, the wide body was due to only one thing - it was necessary to place a comfortable and full-fledged QWERTY keyboard somewhere.

When developing the E71, designers focused not only on reducing the size as much as possible while maintaining functionality, but also on creating an attractive appearance of the device. I must say that they succeeded in both.

Nokia E71 has dimensions and weight comparable to most modern phones - 114x57x10 mm, 127 grams. At the same time, the communicator, of course, looks a little wider than a regular phone, but in terms of thickness it certainly does not go beyond the limits. But thanks to the smooth contours of the body, the new product looks simply great and no longer resembles a boring working tool. Moreover, the Nokia E71 can safely be considered a fashion solution, worthy of settling in the pockets of people who have excellent taste and would rather die than compromise their style. This is evidenced by numerous positive reviews not only young people, but also girls. Yes, yes, now the Nokia E71 can be seen in the hands of the fair sex, in the manager’s pocket and on the table of a glamorous nightclub, where the owner dropped in out of habit. Of course, the E71 will not become a status item, which is the same Sirocco, but the fact that it is not devoid of style and individuality is a fact.

The materials of the case played an important role in this. Thus, the edging around the display and keyboard, as well as the battery cover, are made of stainless steel. The chassis of the phone is made of high-quality plastic, which is varnished. The phone is assembled simply superbly - all the panels fit perfectly, the body is very tightly built, there are no moving parts, and due to the small thickness and the presence of metal parts, the necessary strength is achieved.

In addition, scratches on the surface, which, whatever one may say, will appear sooner or later, will be barely noticeable due to the fact that the plastic is unpainted, and the entire surface of the back metal cover is covered with a pattern of dots. The only panel that may be subject to wear and tear is the small plastic area under the keyboard, which is covered in chrome. Otherwise, we repeat, the design is simply impeccable and these are not empty words, believe me.

The model is presented in two colors - a combination of white and silver, as well as a symbiosis of gray and matte chrome (white steel, gray steel). Actually, it is the second option that we have today.

The keyboard and plastic parts of the case have a corresponding shade of white. As for the black version, here we are dealing, rather, with graphite chrome inserts.

The layout of the front panel remains the same as that of its predecessor, the Nokia E61i. At the bottom, in the left corner of the chrome panel, there is a hole for the speaking microphone.

Half of the entire area of the front panel is allocated for the keyboard unit, which we will discuss in detail below.

The remaining space is occupied by the display, the matrix of which, unlike the E61i, is hidden under protective glass.

We will also return to the display parameters, but for now we note that next to the earpiece, which is covered with a nice “grill”, there is a light sensor and a barely noticeable peephole front camera for video calls.

Not for the last time, we note that many details of this phone play an important role in the design of the finished and verified design of the phone.

On the left side we can see a memory card slot and a microUSB connector covered with rubber plugs. The plugs do not spoil the appearance at all, they open comfortably and do not tend to open at the most inopportune moment, as often happens.

As expected, the camera can also shoot video. In this case, there are much fewer settings than when taking photos, but there are still some things. So, we can choose night or normal mode shooting, set white balance and color effects. The video resolution is selected according to the same principle as the photo resolution. In this case we have: mpeg4 High, mpeg4 Normal and 3gp sharing. In all cases, recording is carried out at a speed of 15 frames per second.

Software platform. Innovations

The Nokia E71 is based on the well-known software platform Series 60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 (Symbian 9.2). However, we still have to tell you something about the software inside the Nokia E71, since the composition of the E-series applications differs from the usual type for the Series 60. To begin with, we will comment on all the innovations, and then just look at the internal organization of the device’s menu.

Changes are already noticeable desktop, whose appearance has also changed. So at the bottom there are now dynamically appearing icons that signal missed calls, events or received messages. If there are no events or received messages, the icons disappear. When you select an icon, a pop-up list of actions and information appears. At the same time, we do not leave the desktop, which is very convenient.

You should also talk about a useful innovation called Mode. It implements the idea of a virtual desktop, familiar to us from PCs. The bottom line is that when you select the appropriate icon on Active Standby, you switch to another desktop screen.

This changes the list of quick access applications, wallpaper and menu theme. Of course, you can customize each of the desktops as you wish. Agree, this is a rather convenient option that allows you to change not only the menu design, but also access to frequently used functions at work and outside with one touch.

Serious changes have affected address book . For example, in standby mode, you can select a letter or a combination of letters from the keyboard and the screen will immediately display a list of contacts in which this combination occurs. This eliminates unnecessary manipulations when searching for the desired contact. The only negative is that this feature does not work for Russian letters.

There is only one way to display contacts - first and last name. Nothing is provided. But if the cursor is hovering over a contact, then by moving the joystick to the right you can call up a drop-down menu that allows you to make a call to one of the phones listed in the contact, or send a message. New contact fields have also been added.

For groups of subscribers you can now set a password, voice conference number and PIN code. In addition, the phone itself can organize a conference call between group subscribers. For those who constantly use this opportunity, this option will be extremely useful. You can associate a melody with a separate group.

Calendar has also undergone some changes, but they are rather cosmetic in nature.

For example, the to-do list is now displayed along with the calendar itself on the same screen. In addition, the display of the weekly to-do list is very reminiscent of MS Outlook. There are even tooltips.

Added some interesting voice applications. One of them is Voice Aid. When you launch it, you can study the call log, find out the time, select a contact from the address book, dial telephone number or ask voice command. At the same time, you do all these actions with one hand, without looking at the phone.

At this time, the device itself pronounces your manipulations. This option can be convenient when you are driving and cannot take your eyes off the road. In this case, you don’t even look at the phone, which simply speaks out the available menu items, numbers when dialing a number, or the contacts you scroll through. Sometimes the option is useful if you don't trust voice typing.

To dial the phone without looking at the screen, use the application Dialer, which has already been seen on E-series devices and allows you to dial a number without looking at the phone. You simply scroll through a list of numbers and special characters, and they are spoken by the device. Quick access To Dialer possible just as described Voice Aid.

Added option data encryption, both on the memory card and in the phone memory. This is a useful thing in a corporate environment, but if you forget your password, your data is lost forever.

Actually, with this we can move on to considering menu items and their contents. We will describe only some applications, since all the others are already well known and only need to be listed.

Menu

It can be presented in only two ways - a table and a list.

Communications

Here are shortcuts that provide access to communication functions with outside world. By the way, unlike the N-series and Series 40 of the latest edition, the messages are divided into separate paragraphs depending on the type, as was the case before. That is, there is no single interface for writing a text, MMS or audio message.
