Difference between apple mouse and 2.

Home / Mobile devices

I really like the Apple Magic Mouse 2. I have tried other computer mice, but in my opinion they are not as well optimized for working with the MacBook as the new mouse from Apple.

Apple Magic Mouse 2 - Review

The new version of Magic Mouse 2 does not have significant improvements over the previous model.

In fact, if you have a well-functioning, slightly beat-up Magic Mouse 1, I don't see much point in splurging on new version, especially since, as usual, Apple products do not belong to the cheap class.

But I decided to go for it because my original Magic Mouse began to seriously “glitch” - lose Bluetooth connection with a MacBook and drain the battery too quickly.

Why did I decide to buy the Magic Mouse 2?

Certainly main reason, because Apple's mouse got rid of batteries.

Now about charging the mouse from the cable. For many, the problem with the charging slot at the bottom is that it is impossible to charge and use it at the same time.

This aspect of the Apple Magic Mouse 2 raises the most controversy. It would be naive to expect that this will be different in the second version. After all, Apple believes that the equipment should be as minimalist as possible, so they don’t see it as possible to place the slot in a place other than at the bottom of the device.

The objections to this attitude are understandable, but for me it does not matter. On one battery charge Apple mouse will last up to one month, so charging is generally not a problem. Getting rid of physically short battery life is very important to me. Apple says charging the mouse for 2 minutes gives it up to 9 hours of use. It's the same as going to the toilet during a break at work. I think this will not cause much damage to comfortable work. On the other hand, a full charge takes about 1 hour. And by putting the mouse to charge during lunch, you eliminate the possibility of doing short recharges while working.

Apple Magic Mouse

The MacBook's touch trackpad supports multi-touch, there are no physical buttons, although, of course, it supports left and right functions. right button mice. You can use it to perform gestures - like on touchpad. Gesture is a key issue for me when working with a computer. Therefore, for me there is no difference in working with a trackpad and a Magic Mouse 2.

Magic Mouse 2 brings no new features

Unfortunately, there is no so-called Force Touch (or 3D Touch) feature known from new MacBook laptops or screens new iPhones And Apple Watch. And I regret that the most. 3D Touch became a habit on my iPhone so quickly that I would happily use it on my computer.

After all, 3D Touch is the most important innovation in the iPhone interface since the introduction of multi-touch.

What has improved significantly here is moving the mouse across the surface.

While it still doesn't support glass, it works much better on all other surfaces than before.

I understand very well the criticism of Magic Mouse - both the first and second versions. This computer mouse– like products from leading representatives of computer equipment Logitech or Microsoft, are not suitable, for example, for games, which for many people is the main criterion when choosing a computer mouse.

However, please remember that a computer mouse is probably one of the most intimate and personal computer devices that we use every day. I use a computer mouse much more often than a smartphone, and therefore which device it is is a very important question for me.

Together with iMac, everyone is good. Finally, they have a built-in rechargeable battery. They have received a new, more attractive design, and, of course, we cannot forget about Force Touch support. However, they are not without drawbacks. Here is a list of 10 problems that iDB colleagues found, and we can only support them.

Price

Magic Keyboard - 8690 rubles, Magic Mouse 2 - 6490 rubles, Magic Trackpad 2 - 10,490 rubles. Together, all this pleasure will cost 25,670 rubles. Owners of Windows PCs who use a regular keyboard and mouse could not even imagine such a price for peripherals. We're no strangers to high prices for Apple products, but US buyers are also angry. For them, the new peripherals are $100 more expensive than the old ones.

Old peripherals are not available

For those who are not willing to spend more, the only option is to use peripherals from other manufacturers, since old Apple devices have not become cheaper, they simply no longer sell.

Lightning port in Magic Mouse 2

The fact that the new mouse is equipped with a Lightning port for charging and connecting to a computer is good. But why was this port located at the bottom? The obvious result of this decision is that you won't be able to use the mouse while it's charging. Fortunately, it should gain charge very quickly.

Absence numeric keypad

Many, like me, are so used to typing numbers using the numeric keypad that its absence becomes a problem. The new Magic Keyboard doesn't have it. It can be purchased separately, but it will stand out among the trio of updated peripherals from Apple.

No backlight

There's nothing wrong with that, but we hoped there would be.

No Touch ID

We have already forgotten how to enter a password on iOS devices. We might as well forget how to do this on devices running OS X.

Absence USB-C port

USB-C is the only port that owners of the 12-inch MacBook will be happy with. This is the port of the future, but it has been forgotten in new peripherals. Is the future coming soon?

The keyboard and trackpad are different devices

Many Mac owners dream of a trackpad that acts as an extension of the keyboard, allowing them to use one device instead of two. For various reasons, this may not be a convenient solution, but people continue to wait for it.

Bluetooth 4.0

Of course, the most interesting of the presented trinity is Magic Trackpad 2 with support. Many people would be happy to try it, including owners of older Macs. Unfortunately, devices released before 2012 do not work with Bluetooth 4.0.

Only El Capitan

If you want to have the latest devices, don't forget about the latest software, whether you like it or not.

Based on materials from iDownloadBlog

For some, a branded manipulator without a ponytail is the love of their life, for others it is an indispensable tool when working in the same business. iDownloadblog journalist Jeff Benjamin is one of the latter and offers his opinion about Apple.

The mouse glides over the surface of a wooden table much more smoothly than its ancestor, this is a fact. The modernized design of the sled allows it to “float”, almost ignoring the force of friction, and the rustling sound of movement has become noticeably quieter. It will take time to notice this - put the old and new versions of the gadget next to each other and you will understand everything yourself.

The price tag of 6,490 rubles is as much as 645 rubles more than the cost Magic Mouse previous generation, probably due to the presence of a Lightning-USB cable in the box. On the part of Apple, which is not known for its tendency to dump, this is practically a gift, since the cable easily fits the iPhone, iPad, Magic Trackpad 2, Magic Keyboard and other Apple devices. Now we can safely say goodbye to the tyranny of branded charger restrictions!

And the included cable for the mouse allows you to reliably and instantly connect it to your Mac the first time. The importance of the last aspect will be understood only by those who were exhausted with the finicky Bluetooth pairing of the previous model.

Ditching batteries in favor of an integrated battery is a great idea. There is no risk of being left without a working mouse because in a creative frenzy you forget to change a module that has exhausted its resource, nor additional costs. In fact, as long as the mouse is connected by cable to the computer, the issue of energy supply is removed from the agenda altogether - and how did we not notice this before?

Skeptics will argue that when the wire is connected, work with Magic Mouse 2 impossible, because the connector is located on the bottom panel. Okay, let's look at the question from the other side - a whole minute, while the mouse is “gaining strength” for the next few hours of work, would be a good idea to spend thinking about the details of the project. Or to make coffee, do exercises for your fingers and a stiff neck, or go to the toilet. And if you gather the strength to tear yourself away from your computer and go for a 2-hour walk, any of the new trinity of Mac accessories will have time to accumulate energy for a month of continuous use. This is much better than a box of extra batteries in the bottom drawer of the closet.

There is no compartment cover for removable batteries, and there are no weak spots in the mouse design. Co old version Magic Mouse it happened that after long work it began to creak with loose joints in the muscular hand of a professional designer, but the new one was exceptionally “strongly built.” But Jeff would not risk throwing it at the wall in his heart; after all, this product has a different purpose.

There are no new options, don't even look. Dot. And therefore, the need to necessarily replace the old mouse with a new one is the cunning of marketers, and those who are used to working with Magic Mouse, will not detect any major changes in performance properties. The accessory is still an ergonomic manipulator with a single spacious screen button that supports multi-touch gestures. But their list has not expanded and there is no trace of any similarity.

Now we are close to making a verdict - buy Magic Mouse 2 is largely due to a subjective attitude to the issue. If you have the opportunity to use a program to replace old gadgets with new ones, if fiddling with batteries has set your teeth on edge, if accuracy of cursor positioning is paramount, then yes, you absolutely need a new mouse. Plus, this is a good reason to start getting acquainted with Apple products or troll haters of this brand.

I really like the Apple Magic Mouse 2. I have tried other computer mice, but in my opinion they are not as well optimized for working with the MacBook as the new mouse from Apple.
