I have unpretentious taste -
The best is enough for me.
— Oscar Wilde

Until recently, Sony released an average of two flagship Z-smartphones per year and only one Z-tablet. It is likely that now new “tablets” from Sony will appear more often, while smartphones, on the contrary, will appear less often. See for yourself: relatively recently, at the end of 2014, the Z3 Tablet Compact was released - the first eight-inch device in the current line of Xperia Z tablets. Already now, after only about six months, a new Sony “tablet” has entered the market - the Xperia Z4 Tablet. It, like the first gadgets of the Tablet Z series, is ten-inch. True, its resolution is not Full HD, as before, but 2K - 2560 × 1600 pixels. This is the main feature of the device. The gadget also has a new eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 platform. The rest technical specifications The Xperia Z4 Tablet, judging by the comparison table below, is almost the same as the Z3 Tablet Compact and Z2 Tablet. Maybe there's something about the Z4 Tablet that the specs plate can't convey?

Potential buyers of the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet should take into account that Russian market There are two modifications of this tablet: one can access the Internet only via a Wi-Fi connection, and the other can also access the Internet via 3G/LTE. The modification with a built-in modem is designated by the internal number SGP771RU, which is what we tested. A version that is content only Wi-Fi networks, designated as SGP712RU. Be careful when purchasing!

⇡ Appearance and ergonomics

The appearance of the new Sony tablet shows the same changes that we saw in the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. The sharp edges of the body became convex, and the almost right corners became rounded and less prickly. In addition, the gadget not only visually looks lighter than its predecessor - the tablet has lost weight from 440 grams to 396 grams in comparison with the Z2 Tablet. “Exiting” four hundred grams for a ten-inch tablet is really worth a lot.

There are also changes that are almost invisible to the eye. For example, the thickness of the body of the same Xperia Z2 Tablet was 6.4 millimeters; the new Z4 Tablet has only 6.1 mm - the same as the Apple iPad Air 2. At the time of publication of this article, the device is one of the thinnest and lightest 10-inch tablets in the operating room. Android system.

Compact tablets with a display diagonal of seven or eight inches are more popular than their larger, full-size brothers because they are lighter and easier to use in a canopy. Ten-inch tablets are often large and bulky. However, this has nothing to do with the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet - in terms of ease of use anywhere outside the home, due to its small weight and pleasant-to-touch body, it is not inferior to more compact options. Your hands don’t get tired of it, even if you hold the tablet suspended for a long time. There are also reverse side medals: the device looks significantly simpler than the previous full-size Sony tablet - Xperia Z2 Tablet.

The layout of the tablet's controls is completely standard for Sony tablets - if you've worked with devices from the Xperia Z Tablet line before, then getting used to the new product won't be the slightest bit difficult. There is nothing on the front panel except the display and front camera. Hardware power and volume keys are located on the left side. The buttons have a short and distinct stroke.

A universal 3.5 mm jack for connecting a wired headset is located at the top end. Next to it is a slot for installing a microSD memory card and a Nano-SIM format SIM card. The MHL interface, which combines a video output and a high-speed Micro-USB 3.0 port, is located on the right side. It is noteworthy that its plastic plug is amputated - protection against water ingress is implemented without it. The company calls this solution Cap-less USB. The bottom edge of the tablet body is empty - with the advent of Cap-less USB, the need for a docking station has disappeared.

The back panel of the device is made of matte, pleasant-to-touch plastic. It is rough, due to which the gadget does not slip in your hands. The tablet's body is non-separable. On the back panel there is a lens of the main 8-megapixel camera.

The device is well assembled: it passes the twisting and breaking test without problems - when the sides are squeezed, there are no suspicious backlashes or creaks, and no colored streaks appear on the screen. The tablet body, like the body of its predecessor, Z3 Tablet Compact, is protected from dust and moisture according to IP65/68 standards. This means that the Xperia Z4 Tablet can be kept in fresh water at a depth of up to one and a half meters for half an hour, provided that the cover for microSD and Nano-SIM cards is tightly closed. The Z4 Tablet is available in two colors - black and white.

⇡ Display

So, Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is the first tablet of the Japanese company, which has a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels. In terms of the number of pixels, WQXGA is four times larger than HD (1280 × 800). The Z4 Tablet display has a high pixel density of 298.9 per inch. This is a very high figure for a tablet computer. Considering that devices of this size are usually used at least at a distance of half-bent arms, in everyday life It is absolutely impossible to see individual dots on the tablet screen. If you hold the device close to your eyes, a small and completely insignificant roughness will be visible in small fonts. However, it’s us who have become so picky after displays with 575 dpi. In fact, the resolution in the Z4 Tablet is enough for the eyes - more tablet computer and it’s not necessary, it’s just a waste of processor resources. In addition, there is simply no higher resolution among tablets with a ten-inch display.

The manufacturer does not specify what type of matrix is used in the Z4 Tablet, limiting itself to the capacious description “LCD”. Judging by the behavior and characteristics, the device has an IPS or IPS-like matrix installed. Even when viewed from an angle, the picture on the display remains readable and understandable, the contrast practically does not drop. Let's say, watch a movie together on Xperia display The Z4 Tablet is quite convenient. True, there is one thing - when you look away from the perpendicular, the black color acquires a slight purple tint. This does not interfere with working with the tablet, but it is noticeable.

The device supports up to ten simultaneous clicks and responds to touches with loose gloves. The Z4 Tablet recognizes gestures without problems. There were no erroneous or incorrect clicks during testing.

The display is, of course, very high quality - Sony doesn’t do it any other way. The front panel is completely covered with protective tempered glass, which is not prone to scratches and other damage that spoil the presentation of the tablet. There is no air gap between the matrix and the protective glass: the display is made using OGS - One Glass Solution technology. This has a positive effect on the amount of unwanted glare - reflections do not double. A very effective polarizing filter also helps combat glare. The screen also has an oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating, thanks to which the front panel of the device is easy to clean from “fingers”, dust and other small dirt.

Before testing the Z4 Tablet display, we turned off Sony’s proprietary image “enhancer” - X-Reality for mobile, which, using some clever algorithms, makes the picture on the screen “clearer and more natural” (quote). All display tests were performed without software image enhancement. In fairness, it must be said that all modern tablets and smartphones are equipped with automatic, non-switchable brightness adjustment depending on the type of image displayed on the screen. It makes it a little difficult to “honestly” evaluate the display. To get around this, we measured brightness and contrast on images filled with half white and half black (a la domino).

The device has a high brightness reserve, and the backlight boundaries are very wide. The maximum luminosity of the white field on the Z4 Tablet display is 462 cd/m2, and the minimum is only 6.3 cd/m2. Thanks to this, the device is equally comfortable to use both in pitch darkness and in direct sunlight outdoors. In the first case, the screen will not be too bright for the eyes - you definitely won’t have to squint; in the second, there is enough backlight reserve so that the picture on the screen does not fade. In other words, the tablet is convenient to use in any conditions and in any external lighting. The gadget is equipped with a light sensor, thanks to which it can independently adjust the display backlight level to specific conditions of use.

The luminosity of the black field at maximum screen brightness is moderate - 0.47 candelas per square meter. Accordingly, the black color looks quite deep and saturated even at 100% display backlight level. The Z4 Tablet's screen has quite a contrast ratio of 983:1, which is very good for an IPS matrix.

The grayscale color temperature of the Z4 Tablet's display is significantly higher than normal. On average it is 9,750 K with a reference value of 6,500 K. This is, to put it mildly, not good: the colors on the screen are cold, and this is really very noticeable. I'm glad that the user can adjust the color temperature - this option is provided in the display settings.

Otherwise the screen is set up very well. All gamma curves - both gray and primary colors - almost completely coincide with the reference curve. This means that all the midtones on the Xperia Z4 Tablet's display are as bright as they should be - neither brighter nor dimmer. The color rendition of the screen could be believable if not for the cold tones.

Color gamut screen does not match the sRGB reference color space. Blue and green look a little deeper than they should, while the green has an azure touch, and the red leans a little towards pink. In general, Sony engineers should have calibrated the display more carefully.

⇡ Hardware and performance

The tablet runs on one of the most advanced system-on-a-chip at the time of release - Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 MSM8994. There were no devices with this SoC in our test laboratory yet - gadgets with it have only just begun to go on sale. This platform is based on the currently popular ARM big.LITTLE architecture. The 810 has eight computing cores at its disposal - four “energy-saving” Cortex-A53 operating at a frequency of 1.5 GHz, and four Cortex-A57 operating at a frequency of 2 GHz. The modern ARMv8-A instruction set is used and, of course, 64-bit computing is supported. The new Qualcomm controller, Adreno 430, operating at 650 MHz, is used as a graphics accelerator. The platform is made using an energy-efficient 20nm HPm process technology.

The Z4 Tablet has 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of built-in flash memory. The manufacturer, at least in Russia, does not offer a 16 GB version, like its predecessors. The device has a slot for microSD memory cards, so if necessary, the user can increase the storage capacity by a maximum of 128 GB.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet - the package deleted message indicates that the device itself, without the user’s knowledge, deleted the application

Unfortunately, we cannot estimate in numbers how the combination of the new powerful Qualcomm platform and a display with a resolution of 2560 × 1600 works. The thing is that Sony has decided to block the launch of synthetic tests (benchmarks) on devices for the press. The representative of the Japanese brand commented briefly: “Installation of test programs is prohibited due to the new company policy.” We find this decision very strange. Benchmarks are perhaps the most objective way to evaluate the performance level of a device and compare it with the power of other gadgets. For some reason, Sony deprived us of this. We couldn’t even install the completely harmless hardware manager CPU-Z.

The only “benchmark” from our package of test applications that was launched on the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is GFX Bench 3. In it, the device showed the expectedly high result: two thousand points when displaying an image on the screen and three thousand in offscreen mode. It is noteworthy that in onscreen mode the device hit the V-sync limit - sixty frames per second. This is indeed a very good result - the image was updated very smoothly and smoothly during the test. This result can be considered a kind of guarantee of the high level of performance of the Z4 Tablet. We could still understand “Sony’s new policy” if the Japanese produced some low-power and second-rate gadgets. But no: Sony makes fast and productive flagships. What is the point of blocking the installation of synthetic tests on them is unclear. Note that the notorious “new policy” applies exclusively to test samples. On the final samples, all applications will run as normal.

⇡ Communications and interfaces

As we said, in nature there are two modifications of the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet - one with a built-in modem, the other without. We are testing the version with a slot for a Nano-SIM card. This gadget can work in fourth generation networks. The theoretical maximum data transfer rate for reception is 300 Mbit/s (LTE Cat. 6). True, it is possible to get any closer to this figure only if the operator’s equipment supports aggregation of carrier frequencies. Operators " big three“In Moscow, for example, they began installing the appropriate equipment on their towers quite recently and not yet everywhere. So there’s no need to delude yourself too much.

It is noteworthy that using the Z4 Tablet you can not only access the Internet outside the Wi-Fi range, but also send SMS/MMS messages and even make calls. To be honest, talking on a tablet computer is inconvenient - you have to use a headset, because speakerphone audibility is frankly poor. Of course, no one will talk on a ten-inch tablet every day, but the Z4 Tablet is quite suitable as a backup means of communication. He helped us out a lot - during testing, the author of this material was left without a smartphone, and he had to talk on the tablet, since it was impossible to remain without communication. The Z4 Tablet keeps its connection to the network quite well, without visible reasons doesn't lose it.

The device's set of wireless interfaces is quite standard. The device supports dual-frequency Wi-Fi with all common protocols, Bluetooth itself latest version 4.1 and NFC. For some reason, Sony abandoned the IR port. It’s strange, because the presence of this interface, as well as a magnetic connector for the docking station, has always been a “feature” of all gadgets in the Sony Xperia Z line. A radio module that communicates with GPS satellites, GLONASS and BeiDou. Half a minute after launching the profile test, the device detected 16-19 satellites and was guided by ten of them. The navigation error radius was small - only 13 meters. The device navigates the terrain really quickly - it is quite suitable for the role of a car navigator.

⇡ Camera

The set of cameras on the Z4 Tablet is not entirely standard. Let's start with the fact that the tablet has a very advanced front camera - it has a five-megapixel sensor with back illumination, without an automatic focusing system. With this camera you can take good self-portraits and make video calls in room lighting. In dim light, the picture becomes covered with noise and other artifacts, but still remains readable.

The rear camera here is quite ordinary - eight megapixels, with autofocus. It doesn’t have a flash, but a tablet computer doesn’t seem to need it very much - anyway, the tablet’s camera is mostly used in emergencies. Taking photographs with it every day is not the best idea; it is inconvenient both for the photographer and for those around him. To be fair, it should be noted that in good lighting, the pictures on the Z4 Tablet turn out quite good - detailed, contrasty and with natural colors. The quality of photographs noticeably decreases as shooting conditions worsen. In the dark, the tablet's camera is powerless.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet

The camera application has all Sony proprietary functions such as AR Effect, Info-eye and others. You can read more about them in our Xperia Z1 review.

⇡ Autonomous operation

The Z4 Tablet has a 22.2 Wh (6000 mAh, 3.7 V) battery - the same as the one in the Xperia Z2 Tablet. It’s good that, despite a significant reduction in the thickness of the case and the weight of the device, the engineers managed to maintain a decent battery capacity. Typically, “lightening” the case entails a smaller battery, but in in this case this did not happen. And that's wonderful.

In continuous video playback mode, the device lasted just over six and a half hours. The videos were spinning non-stop at maximum screen brightness, with an active Wi-Fi connection and data updating in background. The result is decent, although not record-breaking. To extend the life of the battery, just lower the screen brightness, turn off unused wireless modules, or use the proprietary STAMINA energy saving mode.

⇡ Conclusion

We didn't see anything fundamentally new in the Z4 Tablet. Sony took the previously released Xperia Z2 Tablet and upgraded it a little. The tablet body has become thinner and lighter—in terms of ease of use, the full-size ten-inch Z4 Tablet is not inferior to its more compact colleagues. The Full HD screen, standard by modern standards, has been replaced with a 2K resolution display - it is clearer than the screen of the previous model. The stone “heart” of the device is one of the most modern systems-on-a-chip - Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, supplemented by 3 gigabytes of RAM. In general, everything is as usual: the most advanced hardware in a thin, light and beautiful package. And you don’t have to worry about drowning all this in water.

Advantages of Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet:

  • one of the thinnest and lightest 10-inch tablets;
  • clear display - great for reading books and watching movies;
  • high level of performance - “complex” 3D toys do not slow down;
  • a rich set of wireless interfaces, including LTE Cat. 6 and NFC;
  • The tablet body is protected from dust and moisture.

Disadvantages of Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet:

  • The device display is not configured very well;
  • no IR port;
  • It is impossible to run benchmarks on test instances.

The new Sony tablet has no serious disadvantages. Perhaps the only thing that can discourage you from buying of this device, is its high cost. As usual, for all good things you have to pay - and pay a lot...

New tablets appear constantly, and there is a huge selection of similar products from various brands and brands. Now tablets can be divided into inexpensive, but also premium devices that cost a lot, but are designed to surprise with their functionality.

Sony equipment can compete with many well-known brands

The Sony brand does not release new products very often; each creation is a reason for fierce competition between leading manufacturers. The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is attractive on the outside and beautiful on the inside, as we can see later when we look at its parameters and find out who it can compete with.

Scope of delivery

The tablet comes with a USB cable, a power supply and accompanying documentation - nothing extra, I would like to say. However, there is one accessory that would be quite useful as standard - the Quick Charger UCH10, or power supply for fast charging. A similar module allows you to fill the device’s battery in just over an hour, but for some reason it is not supplied with the tablet, although not only this, but also previous models support the corresponding function Qualcomm quick charge 2.0. Therefore, it is highly desirable, in addition to the standard unit, to also have such a means for charging - it will certainly come in handy, and more than once.

The essence of the reproach on our part is that, given the cost of the tablet, it would be possible to add this useful accessory to the basic package.

Design

The design of this model deserves special attention. First of all, it, like many products of this brand, has a water-repellent body, so you don’t have to be afraid of dipping or dropping the tablet into water. True, if you accidentally lost it in the sea, it is better to wipe it afterwards so that nothing is damaged due to the salt.

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is available in black and white versions - strictly, modestly, but stylish. The tablet has quite impressive dimensions due to the 10-inch screen, but everything is compensated by its thickness - it is only 6.1 mm. Thanks to this, it looks very elegant and impressive; it won’t fit in your pocket, but can easily get lost among the folders of papers in your bag.

Moreover, it has become lighter compared to previous models of the brand. Weighs less than 400 grams, which is an impressive figure for a device with a large diagonal. The rest of the tablet is quite simple, there is nothing in front except the screen and front camera, the power and volume buttons are on the right side.

What makes the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet different from its Apple competitor? That's right, the case material is plastic, but it has a pleasant rough surface, so it's pleasant to hold in your hands. However, if you definitely want to get a tablet with a metal body, like this model, you will have to buy an iPad.

However, you can easily come to terms with the material if you consider that the tablet itself is waterproof, unlike the American product, which is why it simply cannot be otherwise. In general, the design of the product from Sony deserves praise, because thanks to its thin body and light weight, it looks beautiful and is easy to use.

Screen

The tablet is equipped with a 10.1-inch screen with a high resolution Quad HD 2560x1600 pixels. It has become brighter and provides a colorful and rich picture. Image clarity is guaranteed thanks to the high pixel density of 299 per inch, and thanks to a wide brightness range, the screen remains readable even in bright sunlight. It’s nice that the manufacturer has provided an oleophobic coating so that fingerprints do not remain on the display so quickly.

In addition, the screen has maximum viewing angles, and the image quality is so high that photographers or videographers can use the tablet for professional purposes. In principle, in terms of resolution, the device has become one of the leaders on the market, so the screen is its undoubted advantage.

Performance

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet has 8- nuclear processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, 4 cores operate at 1.5 GHz, the rest at 2 GHz. Together with the 3 GB flash memory, the device turned out to be powerful and capable of handling all tasks - from watching Full HD video with a smooth and high-quality picture without any slowdown, to any games with the most intense graphics.

Without any difficulty, the tablet copes with displaying a demanding screen, so you can use it without restrictions for office work, multimedia playback, games and any basic tasks. Moreover, the important fact is that powerful processor in a thin tablet, unlike many competitors, it does not overheat even in games. By the way, this is another argument in favor of a plastic case rather than metal.

If in many reviews you can often find complaints about the discrepancy between the power of the tablet and its screen, which requires more resources or high performance limited by the strong heating of the processor, then here you will not see this. Performance is one of the main trump cards of the model.

Multimedia capabilities

What do you need to work comfortably with multimedia?

High quality screen? In this model, it provides an excellent image that will delight you when viewing photos or movies, surfing the web and working with files.

Speakers? Despite the fact that this tablet is water-repellent, it is equipped with speakers good quality, producing a loud and clear sound in which you can confidently hear the mids and high frequencies in compositions of different genres.

The performance of the device, as mentioned earlier, is enough for any task - if it copes with games, then music or movies will not interfere with fast work.

There are also several features in this model regarding multimedia. This supports connection with PS4 - you can connect the device to the console, connect a joystick to it, which will turn into a simple screen, as if you were playing on a TV. In addition, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet has Hi-Res Sound technology, which contains functions for improving sound, correcting poor-quality tracks, and adjusting the sound for the headset.

To store multimedia and other files, the tablet has 32 GB of memory - not much, but very good, and, naturally, they can be supplemented with a card up to 128 GB, which you will not get from Apple products yet.

Battery and operating time

The device comes with a 6 thousand mAh battery. Is it a lot or a little? If you turn the screen brightness to maximum and watch videos continuously highest quality with Wi-Fi turned on, the charge will last for 5.5–6 hours. As soon as you reduce the brightness levels (and there is room to reduce them), you need to use the tablet in a more mixed mode, then time battery life increases significantly.

If you use the device for a short period of time, the battery power will be enough for several days. But things are not easy with restoring the charge - a standard unit requires about 6 hours for this procedure. As mentioned in the review, the gadget has fast charging technology, with which you can restore the battery capacity by 70% in an hour. The problem is that to utilize the technology, you need a power supply, which needs to be purchased separately. It is inexpensive, but its benefits are great.

Camera

The Xperia Z4 tablet has two cameras of 8 and 5 MP. Note that the front module is quite good; with its help you can use video communication and take good selfies. But it doesn't have autofocus, so you won't get too excited about using the front camera.

As for the main 8 MP module, it comes with autofocus, but is definitely inferior in quality to its competitor from Apple. It will be difficult to take a high-quality photo, movements or shaking of the hands will lead to a blurry photo, but is this important? In most cases, cameras in tablets are there just in case and are not used as a camera, especially in models with a large screen diagonal.

Operating system and programs

The device runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop in the Xperia UI shell. The platform looks concise and beautiful, and is easy to use. Provided standard set applications, as on all Android systems, it is supplemented Garmin navigator and AVG antivirus.

All components that are not to your taste can be removed, and those you want can be installed, and this is one of the main advantages of this platform.

It is important to mention that the tablet is available in a standard version and in a version with a slot for a SIM card and LTE, where the menu provides a dial pad and all the means for implementing mobile communications.

Competitors

The main competitors of the review model, which belongs to the premium segment, are Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and Apple iPad Air 2. What are the differences between the three models?

First of all, a product from Samsung will cost you less, especially when compared with at the price of Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet in 4G version. And this module is also available from a competitor. The Galaxy Tab S 10.5 also has a slightly larger screen with almost the same excellent image quality, and a larger battery capacity. However, it is almost 70 grams heavier, and the processor does not easily cope with the high demands of the screen. An additional difference is that it is not waterproof.

So in some respects, the tablet in our review justifies the cost compared to its competitor. As for Apple iPad Air 2, then it is almost 10 thousand rubles cheaper, does not have such high performance, but best cameras, the same 3\4G support and high-quality screen. But Apple is Apple, and the metal body attracts users well. Therefore, if you choose between these three models, then it is advisable to start purely from individual needs and preferences.

Pros and cons

The advantages of the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet are as follows:

  • Slim waterproof body, light weight.
  • Screen with high resolution, brightness, anti-glare effect and oleophobic coating.
  • Powerful processor, high performance.
  • High quality speakers.
  • Availability of LTE.

Among the minuses you can find only the cameras, although, compared to many tablets, they are very decent, as well as average battery life, but the main complaint of users is the price. Although, if you collect all the advantages - strong parameters, beautiful design, water resistance, it becomes clear why it is more expensive than its competitors.

Conclusions

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is a premium tablet that comes at a high price. For a price of about 40 thousand rubles, you get a waterproof thin case, an impressive screen and high performance without overheating the processor. A good amount of memory, loud speakers, the presence of advanced ones - with many advantages, the device has practically no disadvantages, and even those are relative.

If you do not take into account the cost, then the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is certainly a worthy tablet, which is one of the best products on the market of such equipment.

Tablet Sony Xperia The Tablet Z4, the price of which is no less than 35 thousand, at a quick glance is very similar to the Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 tablet, its price is 10,000 lower: the same monitor size, the cameras are very similar, identical amounts of memory. Is it worth paying extra and is there a significant difference in these two models? In this material we will analyze in detail the main technical parameters devices and make a comparison.

Note that the first generation, Sony Xperia Tablet Z, the price of which does not exceed 20,000, is equipped with a 10.1-inch ND screen. It has rear and front optics, a quad-core APQ8064 processor. It is worse than in other representatives of the review; there is 1024 MB less RAM. But it is still a modern device with good speed.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 and Z3 tablets - prices and specifications

You can buy a Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 tablet for 20 – 24.5 thousand rubles. Unlike its predecessor, it integrates the MSM8974AB. Together with 3 GB of RAM, the device demonstrates excellent performance.

The 10.1” IPS monitor is protected by scratch-resistant glass. It is produced using the same technologies as Bravia TV screens. As a result, we see a clear, colorful, contrasting picture, deep black colors.

8 MP rear and 2 MP selfie lenses have acquired an eightfold zoom, media recording in HD format, intellectual definition faces and smiles, shooting conditions, Sweep Panorama and HDR technology.

A similar chip is integrated into the Sony Xperia Tablet Z3 Tablet, the price of which is almost identical to the Tablet Z 2. Several configurations are available with ROM sizes of 16 and 32 GB, with support for Wi-Fi only or with LTE.

The display diagonal has been reduced to eight inches. Many users want to buy a Sony Xperia Tablet Z3 Compact tablet because of its improved photographic abilities. With the same resolutions, it additionally gained video and image stabilization functions, a burst shooting option, the ability to add geotags and focus on a specific object. Battery capacity is 4500 mAh. This is lower than in other configurations: even the Sony Xperia Tablet Z tablet, whose price is much lower, had a 6000 mAh battery. However, the device demonstrates long-term performance thanks to the presence of the energy-saving Stamina mode.

If you have a budget of 35-50,000 and are ready to spend it on the purchase, we recommend buying a Sony Xperia Tablet Z4 tablet.

It should immediately be said about the improved performance due to the use of the eight-core MSM8994 CPU. The amount of RAM remained unchanged. The optics have the same functions and settings. Among the differences is a modified selfie camera, now 5 megapixels, video recording in 4K format. The new product has a 2K screen resolution. Experts claim that the display has become 40% brighter.

The use of the Wi-Fi a/c standard with MIMO support makes the Internet connection speed 1.5 times higher. This allows you to completely eliminate delays when playing streaming media files and reduce file transfer times. The advanced configuration has a 4G module, while the standard configuration only has Wi-Fi.

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z5 tablet, which will cost (according to authoritative sources) at least a thousand dollars, is currently not available for sale. It was announced at the MWC 2016 exhibition, but the company does not provide any information regarding the release date, nor is there a presentation on the official website.

As devices, tablets were originally created for active use of the Internet. To connect to it, all tablets support wireless network WiFi. The disadvantage of such devices is that they are not widely distributed. WiFi networks. To overcome this drawback, some tablet models are equipped with 3G or 4G modems. 4G tablets are not inferior to smartphones in terms of Internet connection capabilities, and some devices allow, among other things, making voice calls. This feature makes tablets truly versatile devices. The large screen is great for watching videos, surfing the Internet, and even typing text in editors, since the large onscreen keyboard Tablets are much more convenient than what is used in smartphones.
Modern 4G modems can operate in both 3G/4G modes and slower modes if you find yourself in an area of poor reception. Almost universal access to global network allows you to always be aware of the latest news, find the fastest route laid by modern navigation systems based on traffic conditions, quickly share photos and videos via social networks.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet, in our opinion, looks nice. But his appearance evokes a feeling of déjà vu: we saw the same thing last year with the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. The tablets are not easy to distinguish from each other: they have similar shapes and sizes, a matte plastic back, the same round power button and speakers on the front panel. There are few changes: metal corners were added along the edges of the body, the camera lens “slid” a little lower. The cap was removed from the tablet’s USB connector and moved to the right, proudly calling it “Cap-less USB” (a hint of water resistance in the absence of a cap on the port). Because of this, the wireless charging connector has disappeared from below.

As before, the body is predominantly plastic, and the screen is covered with protective glass. The build quality was good for thin tablet: Nothing crunches, although it bends slightly if pressed. The main feature, as always, is the water resistance of the case - you can pour water on it or even immerse it to a depth of one and a half meters.

In this case, the scenario with full immersion It is not the main one for use; you should not go too far with bathing the device. So, after another immersion in water, our tablet malfunctioned. Apparently, a drop accidentally got into the headphone jack: every half second the tablet displayed a message that someone was plugging headphones into it. After some time, the device simply began to turn off and on endlessly. As a result, we had to use proprietary utilities to restore the system. After this, the tablet worked fine, but all personal data and settings were lost.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet can be purchased in black and white colors.

Dimensions and weight - 4.5

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is one of the thinnest and lightest tablets in the world with such a diagonal. The device has become a little thinner - the body thickness reaches 6.3 mm (slightly thicker than the Apple iPad Air 2). In addition, Samsung has already announced the world's thinnest tablet, the Galaxy Tab S2.

The device weighs only 387 grams (the predecessor Z2 weighed 430 grams), which is almost 80 grams less than the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The tablet breaks the “psychological threshold” of 400 grams, which we have not yet seen in a 10-inch device.

Ports and interfaces - 4.8

As always, Sony has equipped its top-end Xperia Z4 Tablet with the most advanced set of wireless interfaces:

  • Dual-band Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n/ac) with Wi-Fi Direct and DLNA support
  • LTE and telephony capabilities (you can call from a 10-inch tablet)
  • NFC chip
  • Bluetooth 4.1 with A2DP support
  • A-GPS together with GLONASS and Chinese Beidou
  • FM radio.

At the same time, the tablet is almost no different from its predecessor - except that the SIM card size has now become “Nano”, the IR port has been removed, and bluetooth version changed from 4.0 to 4.1.

The location of connectors and buttons is as follows:

  • On the left side are the power and volume keys
  • On the right - Micro-USB 2.0 with support for MHL 3.0 (for video transmission)
  • At the top there is a Mini-jack for headphones and a slot for Micro-SD and Nano-SIM cards
  • The bottom edge is empty.

Performance - 4.6

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is one of the record holders in terms of performance and is second only to the Apple iPad Air 2. Despite the cool characteristics (3 GB of RAM and top-end hardware), its power also has a downside.

The fact is that the tablet has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, which is notorious for overheating. Its features are visible from the benchmark results: first the filling shows highest results, but after a few iterations the case begins to heat up, and test scores begin to drop by 20-40%. However, in general, this does not affect the overall performance during daily use - the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet works vigorously. Games like NOVA 3 and Asphalt 8 load quickly and run smoothly. In benchmarks, the tablet shows top results:

  • Epic Citadel - 47.1 fps on ultra-high settings and a resolution of 2560x1504 pixels. After several iterations - only 34.6 fps;
  • Basemark OS II - 1639 points, after a short warm-up - 1562;
  • Google Octane - on average, the browser benchmark showed 7165 points;
  • Sunspider - 745 ms, which is quite fast; if you let the tablet warm up, it takes almost twice as long - 1381 ms;
  • GeekBench 3 - 4372 points, after several iterations the result drops to 3600 points;
  • AnTuTu 5 - 57,500 points, when heating - 46,819;
  • 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited - 25,215, after several iterations - already 21,598

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is one of the most powerful tablets available today. At the same time, its performance clearly suffers due to overheating, and according to benchmark results it is inferior to the iPad Air 2, in some places it is slightly behind, and in others it lags behind very much.

Display - 4.8

The tablet's display is definitely pleasing to the eye; it is one of the best on the market. Compared to its predecessor, the screen resolution has been increased from Full HD to Quad HD (2560x1600 pixels). Also, the viewing angles of the Sony Xperia Z4 have become slightly wider. Moreover, if for smartphones this resolution is excessive, then for a 10-inch tablet this is relevant and is still noticeable to the eye - the picture becomes much clearer. Pixel density has increased from 224 to 299 per inch, which is sharper than the 8-inch Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. The display is covered with protective glass. It is also indicated that an oleophobic coating is used, but it does not help much - the screen is constantly streaked.

The maximum measured brightness of the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet was 403 cd/m2, the result, like last year, is slightly above average. At the same time, it has almost no glare and is easily readable outdoors on a sunny day. The minimum brightness is about 4 cd/m2, which is comfortable for reading in the dark. The contrast also turned out to be at a good level - 845:1, although most top-end tablets, and even its predecessor, show a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and higher. The brightness distribution of the Xperia Z4 turned out to be quite uniform - 90%. The display color gamut is slightly wider than standard sRGB. As a result, it fibs a little with colors, and we can only call color accuracy average. Separately, we note the white balance adjustment for three colors and adaptive brightness control (auto-brightness). It works quite quickly, using a sensor near the lens.

Battery - 4.0

We rated the battery life of the device as a solid four. The tablet lasts a long time, but sits down faster than top competitors like the Apple iPad Air 2 or Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The battery capacity remains the same as that of the Tablet Z2 - 6000 mAh.

In load mode, the tablet lasted just under 4 hours in our tests, losing to the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (5.5 hours), Apple iPad Air 2 (4 hours) and even the Xperia Z2 Tablet (4 hours 20 minutes). A video marathon with a display brightness of 150 cd/m2 discharged the tablet in 9 hours, although the manufacturer promises twice as much, up to 17 hours! In minimum load mode, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z4 worked for almost 20 hours, this is not the most outstanding result, at the level of the Apple iPad Air 2.

To fully charge the tablet (included) charger for 1.5 A) takes 5.5 hours. The process is quite slow, and some applications even pop up a message that the device is draining faster than it is charging. To save energy, there are Stamina modes (limiting performance, deactivating applications, Wi-Fi and mobile data) and Low Battery Mode (saving on everything, including screen brightness).

Software

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet runs on operating system Android 5.0 Lollipop. Thanks to Sony's proprietary shell, all icons, keyboards and desktops look quite unusual. The tablet can make calls, connect to Play Station 4, adjust white balance in three colors, and can also be configured for multiple users. One interesting thing is that when you press the Menu button, you can launch a number of applications in a separate small window, for example, a browser, music or a timer. If desired, you can add other applications or widgets from Play Market. What looks normal on the Sony Xperia Z3+ smartphone is already a bit small on a 10-inch screen.

In our opinion, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is still “crowded” with applications, this can be seen even by the fact that only 22 GB of 32 GB is available to the user. At the same time, they can hardly be called superfluous: these are various multimedia services, navigation from Garmin, a remote control application for a TV, simple applications for processing images and videos, and so on. You can literally remove several applications from them.

Cameras - 5.0

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet uses good, by tablet standards, 8 and 5 MP cameras. The rear camera with autofocus is suitable for side-by-side shots and shoots approximately like an average smartphone camera with the same resolution. It only lacks a flash, but it can shoot panoramas, “stabilize” the image, and it has HDR. It is also capable of recording Full HD video. Note that in “super auto mode,” which is the default, the resolution is “cut” to 6 MP.

Frontal Sony camera The 5MP Xperia Z4 Tablet does a good job of taking advanced selfies - something that's still unusual for tablets. It also has HDR and image stabilization, as well as the ability to shoot Full HD video.

As always, both cameras are equipped with a bunch of modes, the most fun of which is virtual effects on photos and videos: a scene with dinosaurs, gnomes, masks, and so on. You can also download individual scenes, for example, with a dragon, as in the posted video.
