Water resistance. The camera was good (with old firmware 4.4). GPS is very sensitive and quickly picks up satellites. Powerful and compact (I don’t like shovels). Works without problems with Bluetooth mice, USB keyboards, and flash drives.

    2 years ago 0

Build quality, strength of the monolith, screen size (everything above is a shovel), super quality of the auditory speaker (the sound is clear and “real”), spotlight

At first it was very buggy, the auto-rotate problem was annoying.

    2 years ago 0

    Scary to break or lose
They also didn’t find a case for it (not a book). We bought it from a regular M2 - we had to cut out (expand) holes for headphones/charging.

In firmware 5.1, the camera was broken (and they are clearly not going to fix it).
In firmware 4.4 the orientation sensor was constantly buggy.
The plug on the charging (microUSB) and headphone connectors is very inconvenient and wears out, although for a long time on the neighboring Z-models there have been waterproof connectors without plugs, it is not clear why the M2 has plugs.
In firmware 5.1 they made protection against deodexing - as a result, it is impossible to customize the stock firmware (as was usually the case before).

    2 years ago 0

Plugs (over time they become unusable and the device no longer becomes aqua), a voice recorder (a complete failure, I haven’t encountered anything worse yet, even a third-party downloaded one, something in the system), but not a microphone, which some interlocutors complain about that they can’t hear me well

    2 years ago 0

bad camera (both), after 3 months the rubber band on the charging plugs fell off. after which the phone became normally not waterproof

    2 years ago 0

I knew the camera wasn't very good. But for so much... The phone is less than a year old, but the rubber band on the cover of the charger connector has already come off. Accordingly, the lid does not hold on and flies off. Beauty (

    2 years ago 0

It gets boring to constantly open the plugs (to treat wireless headset, however, there is no docking station)
    - The main speaker is not located in a convenient place
    - Not HD screen (although I hardly notice the difference)
    - The sensor does not work well in cold weather
    - The screen blurs a lot (treat with an overlay glass, NOT FILM!)
    - After “bathing” the speaker does not work well (albeit for 5-10 minutes at most)
    - You don’t need much preinstalled programs(treat them by turning them off normally)

    2 years ago 0

The battery drains quickly if you actively use applications

Good model

Advantages of the phone - design;
- waterproof
- sufficient hardware and performance (19,200 points according to AnTuTu)
- available in a “copper” version (mainly because of which it was bought for my daughter)) It looks good, solid and expensive.
- 4G (though... a phone without 4G now wasn’t even considered when purchasing, no matter how cool it was) Disadvantages of the phone: - “size”
- sound when telephone conversation deaf and with sound artifacts, distortions

Comment about the phone:

I was able to compare the device with the Xperia ZL, because... there is one in the family. Of course, it is inferior to the ZL both in hardware and in use. useful space of the case (frames on the left and right especially) and the camera and even sound. But it is understandable and expected... Let me go over the main points. The M2 Aqua, with a slightly smaller screen, is larger than the ZL, apparently to please OmniBalance Sony). Second. Due to the fact that the device is waterproof, the sound is both during conversation and when listening. through the external speaker it is slightly muffled, and during a conversation there is even some sound distortion... This was to be expected, because... it is protected not miraculously in some way, as girls usually imagine), but with very real rubber gaskets and plugs around the entire perimeter of the case. And this cannot but affect both the transmission and sound recording, for example, when shooting. Alas, this is a given for any waterproof product. apparatus, this must be understood. Therefore, consider this factor as mandatory when choosing only if it is very desirable due to frequent exposure to water, splashes, rain and snow, or you often need to take the phone with dirty hands... Well, or you are young and you really need to show off in front of others, carelessly chatting the phone in the water)). By the way, the only speaker is located at the bottom end of the case, I don’t know if this is a plus or a minus for anyone. Just a nuance. But the sound from it is quite decent! Third. Camera. It is definitely inferior to the ZL-evskaya. And not only by resolution, reaction speed, artifacts when pointing and shooting, but also, for some reason, by color rendition in comparable modes. I don’t know why. You may need to manually adjust the white balance. Now the screen. We specifically examined the same picture simultaneously on the M2 Aqua (IPS) and ZL (TFT) at comparable brightness modes. On ZL the colors are richer! But the ZL goes milky when the viewing angle changes, but the M2 does not) And one more thing. For some reason, NFC does not determine the number of remaining trips on a metro ticket, although it transfers files as needed. And so... the device is good for the money (bought for 11,000 rubles).

Review No. 2 about the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua phone

Great model

Phone experience: less than a month

Pros of the phone - Excellent screen. The colors are bright, rich, and the viewing angles are wonderful.
- Excellent sound quality (both in headphones and from the speaker). It will be impossible to miss the call.
- Simple, convenient interface.
- Excellent microphone, interlocutors are happy with the connection
- Availability LTE networks
- The size of the smartphone even in a case is optimal. It fits comfortably in your pocket and in your hand. Despite the screen diagonal (4.8"), you can easily use it with one hand.
- Responsive sensor responds clearly to pressing.
- The smartphone is very fast, quickly launches applications and works in them. Pulls many good toys.
- Lots of camera settings for manual shooting, plus the camera itself is not bad (8MP).
- LED flash.
- The battery lasts well for 2-3 days of normal use (Internet, calls and occasional games). But if you turn on the alarm, the battery charge starts to evaporate as if by magic...
- The phone is protected from moisture, which means you can put it in water and take underwater pictures!
- Availability of NFC. You can broadcast a picture from your phone or play music directly to your smart TV. Disadvantages of the phone: For this price there are simply none!

Smartphone Sony Xperia The M2 Aqua cannot be called large by modern standards - its diagonal is 4.8 inches. The dimensions of the device are 140x72 mm, the thickness reaches 8.8 mm, and the weight is 147 grams. For comparison, the five-inch LG G3 S turned out to be much thicker, but at the same time narrower, shorter and even lighter, and Samsung Galaxy The Grand Prime is the same thickness - slightly taller and 8 grams heavier. The frames at the top and bottom could make the Xperia M2 Aqua more compact, but here they are traditionally wide. The side frames do not look thick only because of the convex ends, which seem to be cut off from above, but this visual effect does not actually make the smartphone narrower. However, due to these convex frames, the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua phone fits well in the hand, the palm and fingers freely clasp the frames, but it is still inconvenient to operate it with one hand.

The smartphone has a typical Sony design with a well-recognized round power key on the right side and a volume rocker underneath it; in general, it is very similar to the Sony Xperia M2, only with covers. Unlike the flagship models, the backrest here is matte, without glass. The advantages of the coating are that the smartphone does not slip out, although it no longer looks so “cool” and premium. Bottom end is styled to look like one solid speaker, but if you run your finger over it, it's easy to find that the speaker itself only occupies a small area closer to the right corner of the phone.

There are several more unusual details on the smartphone body. Firstly, there is the Camera button, with which you can launch the corresponding application and take pictures. It is located on the right side, at the very bottom. Secondly, there is a hole for a strap, which you don’t often see on smartphones anymore. Thirdly, there is an abundance of plugs, thanks to which the smartphone is protected from moisture and dust. We tested the smartphone for durability, bathed it in water for some time, and went into the shower with it - the device coped well with the tests. However, you must remember that there is a potential problem - it is not clear what will happen to these plugs after six months to a year of using the phone. In addition, constantly opening and closing them is not very convenient. For example, the waterproof Samsung Galaxy S5 mini does not have plugs on the most commonly used connectors - headphone and Micro-USB. And the Xperia Z2, Z3, and even the company’s waterproof tablets did not cover their audio jacks with anything.

In general, the smartphone looks good, and the presence of plugs can be considered a price for water resistance. The main material of the case is plastic, but the Xperia M2 Aqua is assembled with high quality and does not creak under pressure. However, dust and fine dirt may accumulate at the junction of the display glass and the frames, but they do not pose a danger to the integrity of the case - they just overlap a little, which makes it seem like there are cracks running along them.

You can buy Sony Xperia M2 Aqua in three colors: white, black and copper.

Screen - 3.0

Diagonal Sony display Xperia M2 Aqua - 4.8 inches. Resolution is perhaps the main drawback of the model, only 960x540, and the pixel density is 229 per inch. The picture on such a screen cannot be called clear, and there are many smartphones on the market with HD resolutions, for example, LG G3 S or Asus Zenfone 5, but they are a little cheaper.

Matrix type - IPS, viewing angles are not maximum, but quite wide. Based on the test results, the screen can be called bright. The maximum measured brightness was 474 cd/m2 - this is a high figure, but the minimum brightness of the white background is about 25 cd/m2, which means it will be uncomfortable to use the phone in the dark. There is no X-Reality mode in the display settings, as on the company's flagships, but there is a smooth white balance adjustment. We also found out that the display goes blind in the sun, but images and texts remain readable, albeit with difficulty. There is an auto-brightness function, which works quickly, but, apparently, within an insufficiently large range of brightness changes.

Unfortunately, the smartphone does not have a glove mode, although the Xperia C3 has one. Apparently, it is designed for water scenarios, and not for a six-month-long winter. The display glass is scratch resistant.

Camera

IN Sony phone Xperia M2 Aqua has 8 and 1.1 MP cameras. You have access to an LED flash, autofocus, face detection, image stabilization, HDR mode, panorama shooting and a large selection of settings and modes for a pleasant pastime. The maximum photo resolution is 3264x2448 pixels if you configure all the parameters yourself. True, it’s easier to shoot in “Super Auto Mode”, in which the resolution drops to 5 MP.

In addition to the main camera, there is also a 1.1 MP front camera with the ability to shoot VGA video at 30 fps. One of the features is the presence of a separate key on the body, with which you can shoot even in water. This is very convenient, since the touchscreen becomes “insensitive” in water. The detail of pictures in auto mode is not bad for 5 MP, but in our tests the camera took quite a long time to focus - a certain amount of time passed between frames. In poor lighting, the camera immediately begins to make noise, but copes well with uneven lighting. In general, it’s suitable for photos for social networks, but nothing more.

The main camera of the smartphone can shoot Full HD video at 30 fps and stereo sound. We also found that when shooting video there is tracking autofocus, but it does not always work quickly and accurately. In addition, a large number of effects are available, the ability to shoot HDR video, add virtual scenes to videos and much more.

Photo from camera Sony Xperia M2 Aqua - 3.5

Working with text - 5.0

The standard keyboard in the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua is convenient, thanks to its wide customization options. In particular, it supports the function of continuous text input using strokes (Swype), work with dictionaries (from writing style to individual words typed by you personally) and has several keyboard covers. In the settings, you can select the telephone keyboard for portrait (vertical) orientation of the smartphone and also the layout of additional characters on the keys. There is a separate key to switch to another language. In addition, there is a one-handed keyboard mode: you can move the keyboard to the right or left to make it easier to type with one hand. The keyboard is thought out to the smallest detail, it can only be called inconvenient large size icons on a 4.8-inch display.

Internet - 3.0

The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua smartphone comes pre-installed Google Chrome, with support for synchronizing tabs with the desktop version. We tested it and the browser is fast. There is no multiple page scaling or separate reading mode. But there is one-time scaling to a pre-selected size - to do this you just need to double-click on the screen. In addition, the browser has on-page search and a traffic reduction mode.

Interfaces

In terms of interfaces, the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua smartphone can easily give most average smartphones a run for their money. The phone has: dual-band Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi mode modem, Bluetooth 4.0 with low energy consumption and A2DP support, A-GPS with GLONASS support and an NFC chip. There is also support from Russian LTE frequencies(Cat 4, up to 150 Mbps). Sony smartphone Xperia M2 Aqua works with Micro-SIM cards and micro-SD cards up to 32 GB. It also features a micro-USB 2.0 port with USB-Host support for connecting peripherals. The only thing missing from a typical premium set is MHL for a USB connector and high-speed Wi-Fi.

Multimedia - 3.8

The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua audio player supports many formats and plays MP3, FLAC, WAV files and a number of less popular formats. The Xperia M2 Aqua comes with good headphones; in our opinion, they have transparent, uncluttered sound, and you can hear all the instruments in the headphones. In the built-in player you can customize the sound yourself thanks to a large number settings. As for the video, everything is also not bad, the player did not want to play TS format videos and some MKV format videos. But he had no problems when rewinding video, as, for example, on the Sony Xperia C3. The built-in video player has a number of settings, including support for internal subtitles.

Battery - 3.1

The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua smartphone has a non-removable lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 2300 mAh (the same amount as the Xperia Z1 Compact). In our tests, the smartphone's battery showed results comparable to mini versions of flagships, which is very good since the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua is cheaper. The device played HD video at maximum brightness for 7.5 hours. When listening to music with the screen off, the device was discharged in 56 hours (more than two days). In less intensive use mode (Wi-Fi, occasional browsing, a couple of calls per day, music and casual games), the battery lasted for 1-1.5 days.

Performance - 2.2

The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua smartphone is equipped with a mid-level chipset - quad-core Qualcomm MSM8926 Snapdragon 400, 1 GB of RAM, and the Adreno 305 accelerator is responsible for graphics. By standards Android smartphones M2 Aqua works quite vigorously, except that the camera takes a relatively long time to start up. But when browsing with several open pages The device performed quite well - practically without problems, even the animation on the pages looks smooth.

The device is suitable for most games and applications. According to the results of our synthetic tests, the smartphone occupies an average position. The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua performed well in games, apparently due to the low display resolution. So, we calmly played Dead Trigger 2 and Minion Rush, Nova 3 loaded unexpectedly quickly, but the game slowed down noticeably, and Asphalt 8 was played normally up to medium settings. In synthetic tests, the smartphone showed results at the level of mini-flagships of 2014 (HTC One Mini 2, Samsung Galaxy S 5 mini) - in the benchmark AnTuTu smartphone received scores in the range between 19 and 20 thousand, and in 3D Mark Ice Storm Unlimited it fell slightly short of 20,000 points. The hardware is far from flagship, but the smartphone works fine and even runs most games.

Memory - 3.5

The total amount of internal memory on the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua is limited to 8 GB, with about 5 GB available to the user. Judging by user reviews, this volume will not be enough for many and will have to buy a memory card. Sony Xperia M2 Aqua supports microSD cards up to 32 GB. In this case, you can “hot-swap” a memory card without rebooting - simply by replacing the card under the corresponding plug.

Peculiarities

The smartphone runs under operating control Android systems 4.4.4 with a proprietary shell from Sony: all standard applications have been redesigned and have an original look. At least for today, the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua is not on the list of smartphones that will receive the update to Android 5.0. The main feature of the device is protection against water and dust; it is certified to the IP68 standard. Among the features, we note the ability to adjust the white balance on the screen and the presence of NFC with LTE support.

Competitors

In terms of characteristics, the smartphone resembles mini-versions of flagship smartphones, but with a lower resolution. The price for Sony Xperia M2 Aqua for winter 2015 is 16,990 rubles, this is an unusual, one might say mid-level niche product. Competitors include the mini-flagships HTC One mini 2 and Samsung Galaxy S5 mini.

HTC One mini 2 boasts the use of metal, a higher display resolution, more memory and cameras of 13 and 5 MP versus 8 and 1 for the M2 Aqua. But the Sony smartphone is several thousand cheaper and is protected from water. In terms of battery, hardware and interfaces, both models are approximately the same.

Samsung Galaxy S5 mini is also protected from water, but without plugs on the headphone jack and even for Micro-USB. The single-SIM version also supports LTE and NFC. The battery turned out to be more durable, the display resolution is higher, as is the amount of built-in and RAM memory (16 and 1.5 GB versus 8 and 1 GB). Otherwise, the smartphones are approximately the same, and the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua looks like a simpler and more affordable option with a “trick” in the form of water resistance.

Somehow the Japanese decided to please their fans by releasing a middle-class smartphone model that would have a water-protected body, like the expensive models in the line - and that’s how the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua turned out. Despite all the similarities with the Xperia M2 model, so to speak, on the basis of which new phone and was built, it should be considered absolutely new model, not an upgrade or improvement. The smartphone became the first device on the mass market to receive IP65/68 certification, and even at a minimum, because of this, users may show interest in it. Well, now Sony Xperia M2 Aqua review in order.

Case dimensions, design and materials

Externally, the Xperia M2 Aqua and Xperia M2 are like twin brothers, and you can’t argue with that. The physical dimensions of the waterproof phone are 140 x 72 x 8.6 mm, which is a fraction of a millimeter larger than that of the “brotherly” model, and the weight is 149 grams, which is only 1 gram more. Such small changes are the result of the IP65/68 certification of the case, and now you can safely buy a smartphone, just don’t forget about the tightly closed plugs.

Visually, and tactilely in this regard, it is difficult to tell the difference. It is visible only thanks to individual elements case - the 3.5 mm headphone jack is covered with a protective plug to prevent water from getting into it. As we remember, older models have a special open connector and in this case The Japanese took a similar path as with the Xperia Z, probably in order to keep the price of the smartphone down.

The second difference is back cover– in the Xperia M2 it was made of glossy plastic, in the Xperia M2 Aqua the cover became matte, making the smartphone more pleasant to the touch, fits better in the hand and collects fewer fingerprints.

The color scheme of the case has also changed slightly - instead of the purple version, the phone in copper color went on sale.

Display

The Xperia M2 Aqua received a display similar in size and resolution to its predecessor - a 4.8-inch screen with a resolution of 960 by 540 pixels, only now it is an IPS matrix with good viewing angles, better color rendition and contrast, and the brightness is very good . Despite the presence of Gorilla Glass 3, it collects prints well - the video oliophobic coating is not the best; in direct sunlight there may be some reflective effect from it.

Hardware and performance

In technical terms, the smartphone is no different from its predecessor - a 4-core Snapdragon 400 chipset with a frequency of 1.2 GHz, an Adreno 305 video accelerator and 1 GB of RAM. This is a very energy-intensive hardware that has proven itself both in terms of performance and in terms of charge consumption with proper software optimization, which the Xperia M2 Aqua has no problems with - everything is at a high level. The smartphone copes well with all tasks, including 3D games and applications. Synthetic test results:

In the battery test, the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua also shows good results - its 2300 mAh battery is enough to provide a couple of days of smartphone operation on a single charge under above-average loads.

User interface and software

The speed of the interface is pleasantly surprising - everything is smooth and without brakes, which once again confirms good optimization software. The smartphone comes pre-installed with a number of proprietary applications and utilities; the memory is not too cluttered with unnecessary software junk.

Camera

You can take pictures underwater with your smartphone thanks to the presence of a mechanical shutter button. The main camera is an 8 Megapixel ExmorRS matrix with autofocus and LED flash. The camera interface is classic like the other models in the line: there are all the necessary modes, options and applications for the camera. It is worth noting that the “Super Auto Mode” is launched from the button.

Emphasizing all of the above, I would like to note that the release of an inexpensive water-resistant smartphone is good step towards consumers. The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua turned out to be a worthy average with an improvement in some parameters of its predecessor, which is a definite plus. A technically balanced model that is not afraid of water - what could be better in this price range?
