Find out the motherboard model. How to find out the motherboard model without disassembling the computer

Home / Browsers

After some time, the computer needs an upgrade. Some users prefer to upgrade by purchasing a new computer, others replace old components with new ones.

Before purchasing new PC components (video card, processor, RAM and others) you need to know the characteristics and model motherboard. This is necessary to avoid component incompatibility.

Physical examination

To physically inspect the installed motherboard, it is necessary to disassemble it. system unit.

In order to disassemble the system unit, you must:

This method is suitable for owners of desktop computers.

Important! Motherboard manufacturers "ASUS" write the model name near the "PCI-E" connector, the manufacturer "GIGABYTE" places information about the board near the RAM slot, the manufacturer "MSI" as well as "ASUS" most often place information near the "PCI-E" connector "

Windows Standard Tools

If the user, due to inexperience, cannot disassemble the system unit and see which motherboard is installed, then you can use standard means operating room Windows systems, such as: BIOS and command line.

You can also use standard utilities operating system.

To use the System Information utility, you must complete the following steps:

  1. to begin with, you need to use the hot keys “WIN + R” to open the “Run” window;

  2. then enter the command into the empty line "msinfo32" and click on the “OK” tab;

  3. Next, the “System Information” window will open, where the computer’s characteristics will be displayed.

Important! The standard “System Information” utility may not display information about the motherboard.

You can also use the standard one to establish the model. Windows utility"DirectX Diagnostic Tools".

To use the DirectX Diagnostic Tools utility, you must complete the following steps:

Important! Data may not be displayed. In this case, the “Computer Model” item will contain the “System Product Name” information.

Another standard method for determining a model is PostScreen checking. Post check occurs when the computer starts.

Important! Modern computers pass the Post check almost instantly, so such a screen may not be displayed when the PC starts.

Video: information about bios, motherboard and processor

Via Bios

You can find out the motherboard model through the BIOS.

In order to find out the motherboard model through the BIOS you need to:

Method two:

Command line

One of the most simple ways Finding out what motherboard is on your computer is through the command line. The user is not required to install additional software; just call the command line window.

To determine the motherboard model via the command line you need to:

First team "wmic baseboard get Manufacturer". Using this command you can determine the manufacturer of the motherboard;

Second team "wmic baseboard get product". Using the command, you can directly determine the motherboard model;

  • then all that remains is to enter the desired command.

The second method looks like this:

  1. using the key combination “WIN + R” you need to call the “Run” dialog box;

  2. on an empty line you need to enter the command "cmd" and click on “OK”;
  3. then in the command line window that opens you need to enter the command "systeminfo" and press the “Enter” key;

  4. after entering the command, the complete technical information about the computer.

  5. The third way to define using the command line looks like this:

    1. using the “WIN + R” keys you need to open the “Run” dialog box;
    2. "cmd" and click on the “OK” tab;
    3. then you need to enter the command "wmic baseboard list full" and press the “Enter” key on your keyboard. Team "wmic baseboard list full" allows you to display full description boards with all technical characteristics.

    4. Let's find out what motherboard I have on my computer in Everest

      You can find out the motherboard model using specialized software. Everest (today the program is called AIDA64) allows you to perform an in-depth analysis of a personal computer.

      With the help of Everest, you can find out about the technical characteristics of your PC, test the processor (CPU), video card (GPU), and RAM. Everest allows you not only to find out the characteristics of your computer, but also to update system drivers, providing download links to official pages manufacturers.

      Important! The program is distributed free of charge and has a trial period of 30 days.

      The trial version of the program has significant functional limitations.

      To find out the model and characteristics of the motherboard in the program you need to:

  • First you need to download the program and install it on your computer;
  • then you need to launch the program from a shortcut on the desktop;

  • Next, you need to select the “Computer” tab in the left column;
  • after that, the window will display the following tabs: “Summary Information”, “Computer Name”, “DMI”, “IPMI”, “Overclocking”, “Power Options”, “Laptop PC”, “Sensor”. In this list we need the first item “Summary information”;

  • Next, click on this item and the window will display information about the technical characteristics of the PC, where information about the motherboard will be displayed.

  • You can also determine the Everest board model:

  1. First you need to click on the tab “ System board»;

  2. after that, the window will display the following items “CPU”, “CPUID”, “System board”, “Memory”, “SPD”, “Chipset” and others. You must select “System board”;
  3. then information about the motherboard model will be presented at the top of the window.

The everest program is the most effective in determining the model and characteristics of the motherboard.

This article discussed ways to determine the motherboard model. You only need to choose the most convenient method.

Hello everyone, readers and visitors of my blog! Today I decided to write a post about how to find out the model of the motherboard installed in your computer. But why is this necessary? Newbies will ask. And this is necessary for several important reasons. Before I get to them, I would like to briefly explain what a motherboard is for very “green” users. No offense)

Motherboard- This is the main element in the system unit. It is to this that all other components are attached. It brings everything together. Moreover, the name itself speaks for itself. But even though it is the main one, the computer will not work without the other components. Photo below.

The motherboard you can see above is very old. Modern ones look much cooler. One way or another, the essence is the same. A mother is a mother and it’s difficult to identify yourself.

And now the reasons why you should know the model of your motherboard:

  1. Selection of components. When choosing components, the motherboard model is an integral part. Knowing the model, we will know all its characteristics. Based on this information, components are selected. Moreover, knowing the characteristics will allow you to be in a more advantageous position when purchasing various add-ons, since with a competent approach you will not overpay for unnecessary functionality.
  2. BIOS update. To update the bios, the motherboard model is simply necessary.
  3. Inventory. Since I am studying to become a welding production technologist, I know that there is an inventory of equipment. I think IT organizations are not included in the exception and therefore various equipment is taken into account for various purposes. Be it a reorganization or a goal to identify a thief. For ordinary users, this point is not of particular importance.

I think I've made a pretty good case. So how do you find out the name of the motherboard? I have prepared several methods, which will be discussed now. You can use the one that suits you best.

Package

I have no idea what it’s like with those computers that are bought assembled, but I know for sure that if you bought a motherboard, then the packaging should be exactly the same. Although logically, if this is so, then you should know the model, because you didn’t buy it at random. Still, somehow they looked and chose.

But, okay. Let's say there is no model, but there is packaging. Find her if she is still “alive” with you. If found, then look at the inscriptions. I think there will be some other little things in the box. For example: books, leaflets. Perhaps something else similar. You can also find the motherboard model in them or on them.

Perhaps you threw everything away. It's okay, you can take a workaround.

Open and see

Yes. In the literal sense of this phrase. Open the system unit and look at the model on the motherboard. It would seem that it could be simpler than this. This is so banal... But you shouldn’t judge ahead of time. Now I will tell you why simplicity can develop into a complex problem under the following conditions:

  1. The system unit is sealed and is under warranty. If you open it, the sticker or seal will be damaged. This will void your warranty if the deadline has not yet expired.
  2. Time. Few people will like spending time on disassembling and reassembling, since you need to unscrew and then tighten the bolts. Of course, there are cases with special rivets for easy opening, but not all system units have them. Even with rivets you will have to do more physical work compared to other methods. Well, why not waste time? By the way, it happens that in addition to rivets, they are also attached to screws.
  3. No opening tools.
  4. No access to the system unit. For example, you help Baba Valya with setting up her computer using programs remote control computer. That is, Baba Valya is on the other side of the world along with the system unit. And for some reason you needed the name of the motherboard.
  5. Laziness. Well, why not a problem? Quite common)

But let’s say that all these 5 points are not about you. If so, then you will receive information. The motherboard model inscription is most often placed under the PCI slots. Here's an example.

But again, if the computer is from very ancient times, then perhaps there will be nothing there.

POST Screen

This method is more suitable for old computers. During loading, components are checked. The so-called post check. You can see the board model on the screen.

If you have an SSD drive, you can forget about it. Everything goes very quickly, instantly. Who has HDD hard drives, then there is a possibility. I took a photo of my monitor which can be seen below. I had to press “Delete” when booting the computer to see the information. This key launches bios, yours may be different.

I could not find the board model, perhaps it was displayed below. Besides, I didn’t have much time to focus, so it turned out a little blurry. But you can see the information. The very first line “A7636IMS” helped me. I was able to find the necessary information on the Internet.

I don’t really like this method, since everything happens very quickly, and who SSD drives, he won’t see anything at all. But it's up to you.

By the way, about bios. There you can also find the motherboard model. But since the bios is different everywhere, I didn’t bother taking a photo of the screen. Although I could have done it, because I pressed “Delete” in order to screenshot the post screen. I remembered this only now. If I had remembered, I probably would have done it.

I have AMI Bios, I didn’t try to look for information. Perhaps there is a model, perhaps not. I don't know, to be honest. If you are aware, you can write in the comments. Is it possible to find the motherboard model there? I'm thinking about new ones bios versions, where the interface is highlighted, you can find the model.

Command line

Quite a simple method, since you need to know a couple of commands. So, to determine the motherboard model via the command line, you need to:

  1. Launch command line. You can do it through start, but I use hot keys Win +R. “Run” starts.
  2. Enter cmd command and click “Ok”. The command line is running! All that remains is to enter certain commands.
  3. First command: systeminfo

The most simple command, works on all windows starting from xp. In early versions, the circumstances of the cases are not known to me. But who uses such systems now?

Second command:

wmic baseboard get manufacturer

wmic baseboard get product

As far as I know, these commands do not work in Windows XP.

DirectX and the standard System Information program

DirectX Diagnostic Tools in Windows

To run the DirectX diagnostic tool, use the following command: dxdiag

After entering the command, press the “Enter” key. We go to the “System” tab. We see the main characteristics. To determine the manufacturer of your motherboard, look at “Computer Manufacturer”, and to determine the model, look at “Computer Model”.

System Information

To run the program use the following command: msinfo32

You can also use the search in Start.

After launch we see the following.

All characteristics of your computer will be immediately visible. On the 6th and 7th lines you can find the manufacturer with the board model.

Through the registry

To start windows registry, you can use command line. Run cmd again and enter the command regedit. Press “Enter”

Let's go along the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\BIOS

BaseBoardManufacturer- motherboard manufacturer.

BaseBoardProduct- this is a model.

Third party programs

Speccy

A good program that displays information about your computer. The program is intended for non-commercial use, which makes it accessible to anyone.

In order to determine the motherboard model, you need to download, install and run the program. Once launched, the program will scan your system. Then it will give you all the necessary information. It's simple.

Download

Aida64

Very good program, gives detailed information about your computer. One might say exhaustive. Also known as Everest. There are 4 versions of AIDA64: Extreme Edition, Engineer Edition, Business Edition, Network Audit Edition. We need the first one, since it is for ordinary users.

The program is paid, but is given 30 days to use. This is quite enough to find out the model of the motherboard.

Download

CPU-Z

This program shows technical information about the computer, including the model and motherboard manufacturer. It's worth mentioning that this program also exists for Android systems.

In order to get information about the motherboard, you need to launch and go to the “Mainboard” tab.

Download

Conclusion

That's all. Now you know how to find out the motherboard model. I've looked at everything possible ways obtaining information. I hope this information has helped you or will help you in the future. If you have anything to add, be sure to write in the comments. I will be glad to comments.

That's all. to my blog, receive news by email. Alexey Antropov was with you, bye everyone.

Do you know what is hidden in the black box of your PC system unit? Or a laptop case? I don't. Of course, I know what brand of processor is installed in my computer and how many gigs of RAM it has, but I just can’t remember the motherboard model. And I’m not trying, to be honest: why clog up memory if I can easily identify it?

Today we’ll talk about how to find out what motherboard is on your computer or laptop. Not only on the working one, but also on the faulty one, which does not start, does not load the system or refuses to display an image on the screen.

Windows Tools: Fast, Easy, Sometimes Useless

If the computer turns on normally and loads the operating system, it will take you no more than a minute to determine the mother model. Windows provides 3 tools for this (maybe more, but that’s enough for us):
  • Built-in System Information application.
  • DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
  • Console Windows program Management Instrumentation Command (WMIC).

To open " System information» go to Windows search and start typing the word msinfo32. The information you are looking for will be displayed on the first tab:

In my example, Windows was only able to recognize the manufacturer of the “mother”. The model on some cars, as can be seen in the screenshot, remains unrecognized. It turns out that this tool is not very reliable, so let's go ahead and use the next one.

To run " Diagnostic toolsDirectX"Open the Windows search engine again and start entering the command dxdiag. The information we are interested in is also located on the main tab of the application. This " Computer manufacturer" And " Computer model».

But what is it? Is this remedy also really useless? Alas, it happens. In the second example, it was unable to determine either the motherboard manufacturer or its model. If so, let's see what the third Windows tool can do.

Practice shows that the WMIC console utility produces much more informative results than the first and second ones. On desktop computers it displays the correct information almost always, and I’ll say a few words about laptops a little lower. So, to find out with its help which motherboard is in the system unit, run two instructions in the Windows command line (or in the PowerShell console, as in my example):

Wmic baseboard get manufacturer

Wmic baseboard get product

As you already understood, first we determined the brand, then the model. Everything worked as it should, which means this is the only Windows tool that is trustworthy.

Third-party programs: more information, more options

Advantages third party applications, in particular those that I included in this article - not only more informative, but also Possibility of use outside the installed hard drive operating system. They can be launched when the computer boots from, in various Windows Live CDs, and even under DOS. All this can be useful in cases where the computer does not load the OS.

HWiNFO32/64

B free program HWiNFO32/64– one of the best, in my opinion, tools for analyzing and monitoring the state of PC hardware resources. As for information about the motherboard, it displays not only its brand and model, but also the PCI-e bus version, USB, multicontroller chip (Super I/O), set of chipset and BIOS functions, and much more. A knowledgeable user will receive almost comprehensive information about his hardware using HWiNFO.

If you are only interested in the “mother” model, you just need to open only the window in the program general information about the system ( Summaryonly). The data is indicated in the field " Motherboard" in the lower left half of the window. More detailed information is contained in the main section.

HWiNFO is released separately for 32- and 64-bit systems. You can choose to download the installation or portable version for Windows, as well as for DOS.

CPU-Z

The second popular utility that will quickly and free of charge show you basic information about the motherboard is CPU-Z, a product of developers from the Middle Kingdom.

The dossier on the “mother” is stored in the “ Mainboard" In addition to the make, model and revision (highlighted with a red frame on the screen), CPU-Z shows:

  • Northbridge chip ( Chipset).
  • Southbridge chip ( Southbridge).
  • Multicontroller ( LPCIO).
  • Information about BIOS (subsection BIOS).
  • Discrete graphics interface( GraphicInterface).

The program is released in portable and installable versions. Also on the author's website there is a release of CPU-Z for older versions of the system, in particular Windows 98.

AIDA64

AIDA64 is a paid and very expensive application, but thanks to torrent trackers, this fact bothers few people today. Moreover, for our task, its trial version is enough, which works for 1 month. Unlike the two previous utilities, Aida has a Russian-language interface, which is why users love it even more. In addition, the program functions not only as an analyzer and monitor of hardware resources, it contains several sets of tests that are used for diagnostics, assessing the performance of devices and comparing them with analogues (benchmark).

To find out with the help of Aida what model of motherboard is on your computer, look at its section “ System board" The searched data is displayed in the list " Motherboard properties" Below is additional information about it as a device: FSB (processor bus), memory and chipset parameters. Data about the chipset itself, BIOS and ACPI subsystem are placed on separate tabs.

In general, AIDA64 provides more detailed information than HWiNFO32, but in the trial version some data is hidden.

The utility is available in four editions for Windows, the most inexpensive of which is Extreme, which costs $39.95. Installation and portable versions are available to choose from.

How to run HWiNFO, CPU-Z and AIDA64 in the MSDaRT environment

D claim recovery Windows performance MSDaRT (Microsoft Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset) is based on WinPE, a small operating system based on the Windows kernel with a minimal set of services that can boot from portable media. Programs installed on your computer's hard drive, with rare exceptions, do not run in the WinPE environment, so you can only work with their portable versions.
  • So, boot your computer from a flash drive or DVD with MSDaRT. Download any of the above utilities (or all three) on another PC and place them on a removable drive.
  • From the list of MSDaRT recovery tools, select " Conductor».
  • Open the drive with the program in Explorer and run the executable file.

Features of recognizing motherboards on laptops

In all of the tools discussed, and not only them, launched on a laptop, they can display information not about the motherboard, but about the model of the device. Or about a whole series of models, such as in this screenshot:

The name of laptop motherboards does not match the name of the models. The exception is Asus products, among which this occurs, but also not always. It is very common to determine the laptop motherboard model software impossible.

In general, very few companies equip their laptops with boards of their own production - the same Asus, Apple, Samsung and MSI. The rest buy them from other manufacturers. Yes, brand motherboards Quanta are in laptops Sony VAIO, Acer, HP. "Mothers" Asus can be found in Dell and Samsung devices. Payments Wistron Lenovo, Acer, Dell equip their products. Foxconn found in Sony VAIO and Compaq. Compal installed in Acer, Toshiba, Lenovo and many other places. Clevo can be found in DNS and DEXP. Inventec installed in laptops of HP, Compaq, Toshiba Satellite brands. These are only the most common manufacturers of mobile motherboards and only some brands of laptops in which they are used.

How to identify the motherboard of a non-working computer and laptop

The only way to determine the model of a device installed in a faulty device is to find information on the device itself. In the case of desktop motherboards, this is not difficult - the model name is printed large on their front side. Most often it is located in the area of the PCI-express connectors or near processor socket. If it is not visible, most likely it is covered by the cooling system or video card.

On laptops everything is again mixed up and classified. Information in unencoded form is again found in Asus(thanks to them for that). The model and revision of the motherboard is indicated before the phrase “ MAINBOARD", in my example it is K72D.R. rev 3.0 . A company logo is placed next to or somewhere on the same side of the board.

Samsung labels its platforms as follows: the top line begins with the word “ MODEL", followed by its name ( BremenM). The bottom line contains revision information.

Motherboards Compal International are identified by the characteristic two-letter marking “ L.A." followed by 4 digits. On some models there is a letter P after the numbers.

Platform marking Quanta, which indicates the model, is not easy to see. It consists of a single, inconspicuous line beginning with “ DAO" or " D.A." Next comes 8-9 characters. The model name is part of this line between DA (DAO) and MB. This example shows the markings of the Quanta LZ3A motherboard.

Platform Model Information Wistron are inside a small white rectangle. Shown here is a fragment of the Wistron LA56 motherboard. The two remaining lines with numbers are the version and part number of the motherboard (starts with 48). If the model has a verbal name, it is indicated in the first line.

Boards from other manufacturers also have unique identification marks, but I don’t see the point of listing them all here, since there are quite a lot of them. Then, laptop owners rarely need such information, because everything they need - drivers, BIOS, spare parts, etc. - can be found by only knowing the model of the device. And, as a rule, there are no problems with this.

How can I find out what motherboard I have? This is the question I received in the mail yesterday. It’s not for nothing that I started writing about how certain characteristics of a computer are recognized. Today I continue to publish information about this, or more precisely, the topic of today’s conversation is how to find out what motherboard is on your computer. I did not make one article in which I could tell how all the characteristics of a computer are recognized, since the letters that I receive usually sound like this: “Alexander, how can I quickly find out what motherboard I have on my computer?” If I give a link to an article where I talk about all the devices, then some people ask for a little help because they are confused. So the conclusion suggested itself - to write short articles about each device, so that each reader could do all the steps independently without any help.

Before you ask a question on the Internet, you can ask yourself. After all, when purchasing any device, you should be given at least some kind of documentation, or, as it happens now, a small piece of paper in which they manage to write not only the model of the device, technical specifications, but also tell you how to use them - in pictures or in a short paragraph. If this document is not at hand, then this article will help in this matter.

Physical inspection of the motherboard

If your computer is disassembled or you cannot turn it on, you can open the system unit, then carefully inspect it from the inside.

In the image below you can see the mother ASUS board. After you have found out the model of the motherboard, search Google or Yandex for detailed information about it (if required).

If you do not want to disassemble the system unit or you are afraid to do it, then you will need programs that can read and display this information.

Standard Windows tools and other programs

Next, I will tell you how to find out the information you need about your computer using programs, but now I suggest you try a standard utility from Microsoft, which sometimes does not show some characteristics. So, go to “Start” - “ ” or use the hot keys “Win” + “R”. Then type msinfo32 and press Enter.

A window will open in which you can view the characteristics of your computer.

As I said above, it is sometimes impossible to find out the motherboard model using standard Windows system tools, so I will talk about several intuitive programs that have a Free license. Finding and downloading them will not be difficult for you.

The first program I’ll tell you about is AIDA64. Outputs detailed characteristics all equipment connected to the computer, including the main board that interests us. We launch the program, select “Motherboard” in the left list, information will appear on the right side of the window, and the model will be written at the top.

This is what it looks like on my laptop:

The second utility is called Speccy. The meaning is the same, you need to perform the same actions (click on the “Motherboard” inscription on the left side of the screen), it will display the same data. There is no difference between these two solutions, use the programs that you like. AIDA64 shows more detailed characteristics, and the Speccy program will be convenient for a novice user.

Well, of course, I couldn’t help but talk about how to find out which motherboard is on a laptop or computer without a third-party software, but also without staff Windows tools. “How is this?” - you ask. And I will answer you: “During loading!” Yes. When you turn on the computer, information about the motherboard and, of course, its model appear on the screen for 2-3 seconds as it starts to boot. Disadvantages of the method: you have to read very quickly, in order to see the information you have to restart the computer several times and also this information may not be there. That's all for today. Thank you for your attention, read my blog, bye everyone!

Video about how to choose a motherboard:

If you need to find out the model of the motherboard that is installed in your computer, then the easiest way is to disassemble it and look at the model name on the motherboard itself. In most cases, to do this, it is enough to remove one of the side covers of the system unit.

Why do you need to know your motherboard model?

The name of the motherboard is not the most important characteristic of your computer. But under certain conditions you need to know it:

  • You need a description of the motherboard to find out the compatible types of processors, the maximum amount and type of RAM, the number of slots for it, the presence of a RAID controller, and much more. This information will be useful when upgrading your computer.
  • You need to download drivers when installing the operating system or change the BIOS firmware.
  • When conducting an inventory to account for IT equipment in your organization.

When it is not possible to find out the motherboard model

In some cases, it is not possible to disassemble the computer and read the name. For example:

  • You don't have physical access to the computer. This is relevant when you remotely administer a computer in another building, city or country.
  • Laziness. No one wants to crawl under tables on the floor between waste baskets, spare shoes and workers' bags.
  • The system unit is sealed. Damage to seals may void your seller's warranty.
  • You do not have a tool (screwdriver) to unscrew the screws and remove the system unit cover. This is also possible, because the fasteners may be star-shaped, or you went to see a girl you know for a minute, who simply doesn’t have a screwdriver, and a nail file can’t cope with the task.

How to find out your motherboard model using programs

If you use a Windows operating system on your computer, you can use several hardware diagnostic programs. For example speccy.

How to find out your motherboard model from the command line

However, the easiest way is to use the command line. That is, you do not need to install any additional software; the built-in tools of the Windows operating system are sufficient.
To find out the motherboard manufacturer, use the command wmic baseboard get Manufacturer
