Yandex.Webmaster. Detailed instructions for connection and use

Home / Routers

Yandex.Webmaster is a kind of Internet conductor in conjunction: you – your website – the Yandex search engine. He appeared in open access back in 2007 and since then has become an indispensable assistant to the optimizer!

Why do you need Yandex.Webmaster?

Using the Yandex.Webmaster service you convey to the Yandex search engine that somewhere in the depths of the Internet a site has appeared that it would be nice for him to turn his gaze to.

The starting point, as always, will be registering an account in Yandex, in other words, an email account, which will become your login. Everything is simple here. =)

Further the task becomes more complicated. Yandex will need to receive confirmation that the site really belongs to you. To do this, you will be offered a number of manipulations with the site to choose from, confirming your rights. We will look at this point in more detail later. In the meantime, let's continue to enjoy the sightseeing tour!

Why add a site to Yandex.Webmaster?

In the first block of the Webmaster, « general information» ,—displays all summary statistics about how many pages of the site are in search, about its external and . Site visit dates Yandex robot, how much in total pages loaded(it's important to consider that they may have been downloaded but not yet indexed), as well as .

Information about the site in the Yandex.Webmaster service

Checking the site URL

In this section of the service you can check indexing specific page site. To do this, you just need to enter her address in the line, as in the picture below:

How to check if a page is indexed by Yandex?

At first glance, the simple functionality of this option can actually be very useful. We will look at the non-obvious capabilities of the URL checking function in Yandex in our next article =)

Site indexing

It is important that Yandex indexes the site correctly and quickly, and also presents it in its search.

To find the desired page and index it, the Yandex robot must reach it. He can do this by going to the desired page using a link from another page of the site. Therefore, special attention should be paid to competent development of the site structure. You can check how Yandex perceives the structure of your site in the subsection site structure.

Site structure in Yandex.Webmaster

It would not be amiss to pay attention to the fact that what pages are being searched for?.

Below is an example of how pages should look in search.

Subsection "History"

Yandex stores the history of the robot's calls to the site. On "Number of requests" tab you can track the graph of the server response, in other words, the availability of the site pages accessed by Yandex.

Below, opening "HTTP codes" tab You can see in more detail which response code Yandex received by accessing a particular page. The green “OK” scale speaks for itself, the blue one with the 3xx parameter is the server response, meaning a redirection, 4xx is an access error in the client request, the most common is 404, and 5xx is the server error response.

It looks like this:

Setting up indexing

Well written site map- another important tool for proper indexing, .

All this is needed to improve the speed of site indexing and correctly use the search engine resource allocated for your site.

Site mirror

To ensure that the site does not disappear into the abyss after gluing, we set up a main mirror in Webmaster.

  • First, you need to determine the main domain; it can be either with or without the WWW prefix. If you do not specify the main mirror, Yandex will select the main mirror itself, and in this case, all links installed to a non-main mirror will simply not have any weight.
  • Secondly, if you have several domains with different addresses, but duplicating each other’s content by 80 percent or more, indicating the main mirror is a matter of vital importance, otherwise there is a chance of being branded a fraudster and completely falling out of the search results!

Search queries

You can see for which queries you are most often shown in searches by opening “Popular Queries” in the left menu. We will return to the issue of statistics and setting up tracking queries later.

Geography of the site

Be sure to indicate the site region in the “Site Geography” field; this can significantly affect the search results in the city you need. In addition, Yandex uses different ranking methods when taking into account regional affiliation.

Site content

Adding text content to Webmaster

By copying the text from the site and loading it into the pop-up window, we will indicate to the search engine that we are the author of the content; this will protect us in the event that the page has not yet been indexed, and someone cunning has already copied and pasted our works.

Website in search results

The choice of “Quick Links” in the “Site in Search Results” section can be influenced solely in a recommendatory manner, since Yandex selects them itself, determining the most popular ones.

However, you can still help Yandex correctly highlight the sections of the site you need by using a list of simple tips =)

The “Site Name Register” tool is necessary if you decide to change the spelling of the site address, adding, for example, a couple of capital letters - this will not affect the ranking in any way.

Safety

Yandex cares about your safety, so it will notify you if detected malicious code on the website. The message will appear in the “Security” block.

Management rights

Well, you can delegate rights to manage the site by indicating the Yandex user login in the line, as in the picture below:

Add a user to manage the site in Webmaster

This will come in handy when you, with our careful participation, bring all jewelry optimization settings to perfection!

See you soon on air!

Let's look at adding Yandex Webmaster step by step

Step 1. Add a site to the panel (you must have a login)

Step 2. Confirm rights to the site.

Four methods are available:

  • throw off txt file to the root of the site;
  • add a meta tag to the main page;
  • throw off html file to the root of the site;
  • register dns.

Each site has its own file or meta tag with a unique name.

Note: the main thing is not to forget that the Yandex panel periodically checks confirmation of rights to the site, so there is no need to delete the file or meta tag.

Step 3. Configure the Yandex Webmaster panel

What should you pay attention to first?

1. Add a site region

We set the correct region of the site, it is very important for the regional ranking of your site.

Through the Webmaster panel, you can set only one region, but if your site is accepted for registration in the Yandex.Catalog, then it is possible to specify up to 7 regions that will be displayed.

2. Add site organization

Add the address and phone number of the company. If there are representative offices in different regions, then we add all organizations in all regions.

It is necessary to fill out the organization card correctly and as completely as possible, since it will be used when searching on Yandex. Maps (you can read it here)

3. Check the robots.txt file for the site

What interesting things can you find out in the Webmaster panel?

1. Statistics on search queries from the “reverse side”

You need to look at the section - “search queries - query history” - this is the history of changes in the ratio of the number of transitions to the site for selected search queries to the total number of transitions.

From it you can see for each request: For each page of the site you can find out what its status was at the time of building the search database, for example

  • already known to the robot, but not in the index;
  • in the index and ranked;
  • excluded from the index due to...

Useful when pages fall out of the index for an unknown reason. We recommend writing to support to clarify the reasons with specific examples.

3. Additional site content.

For sites of the following types:

  • Original texts;
  • Auto ads;
  1. Search clicks and popular queries.
  2. Problems found on the site.
  3. Latest external links to your site.
  4. 10 latest changes in site indexing.
  5. History of TIC.

Below we will discuss each of these points in detail.

Diagnostics section

Contains information about errors found on your resource. The site is checked every day. All errors are divided into 4 types: recommendations, possible problems, critical, fatal.

Most errors are advisory in nature and do not affect the indexing and ranking of the site, except for the “Critical” and “Fatal” sections. You should pay special attention to these sections. Sanctions, site accessibility for search robots, server response time, etc. are displayed here. All errors can be found.

After correcting the error, be sure to notify Yandex about it. Just click the "Check" button.

Search queries section

The section contains information about search phrases for which the site is shown in the first 50 positions of Yandex search results. We have already talked about this section in more detail in the blog.

In short, in this section you can look at:

Shows complete statistics of all search queries for the selected period. All statistics are available starting from October 1, 2015.

Working in this report, you can divide requests by groups and time, and you can select the device type. Statistics by type allows you to separate transitions from mobile devices and desktops.

The section helps to track the dynamics of queries, the growth of positions, and the CTR of the snippet in search results.

Analyze the number of clicks from positions and CTR of the site snippet:

By tracking this information, we can adjust site snippets in search results. We described in this article how to indirectly influence a site snippet in Yandex search results.

The Trends tab shows the dynamics of your website traffic in comparison with competitors.

The graph shows the dynamics of the relative number of transitions to your site (green graph) and competitors' sites (yellow graph). The data is displayed in an averaged version, which allows you to see the overall picture of the dynamics of transitions from search results.

The graph helps you track how changes on the site affect transitions from search results. For example, if you notice a general decrease in traffic for you and similar sites, it is most likely due to seasonality.

If only your graph has gone down, but similar sites continue to grow, something has gone wrong and you need to look for the reason.

Latest requests

Queries are generated automatically based on the TOP-50 Yandex search results showing more than one, i.e. in this section you can see how key queries and what average position your site was in the search results, how many times users clicked and went to the site. These queries can be used to expand semantic core site.

It is also possible to upload your own queries and use them to track impressions and click statistics.

Yandex can suggest what other queries users may be using to search for you, which leads to additional traffic. In addition to queries, the section displays the landing page for a given keyword.

Indexing section

The largest section in Webmaster. In the winter of 2016, it was quite updated. You can read about the main changes.

The Yandex robot regularly crawls website pages and adds them to its database. Some pages may be inaccessible to the robot, closed from indexing, or removed from the site. This section allows you to find out in detail which page is in the index, which one was deleted and why. Let's go through the sections.

This section allows you to find out which pages of the site were crawled by the Yandex robot. If a site has been unavailable for some time, a list of all unavailable pages will be visible for analysis. If a page is unavailable for an extended period of time, the site's ranking will be lowered.

Pages in search

Displays site pages that participate in Yandex search. You can track which specific page is currently participating in search results, and which ones have been excluded.

A page can be excluded for several reasons:

  • double;
  • insufficient quality page;
  • redirect;
  • the page is closed from indexing;
  • page has been deleted.

We described in detail how to deal with duplicates in this article. In a nutshell, use the canonical tag, block all filters, search and other service pages from indexing. Insufficiently high-quality pages are calculated using a special Yandex algorithm. As a rule, these are pages with a couple of sentences of text, without useful content for users.

Site structure

Displays sections of the site containing more than 10 pages. Shows the total number of pages loaded and pages being searched.

  • Loaded pages are pages that the robot was able to find and add to its database.
  • Pages in search - pages presented in Yandex SERP. If a page is of poor quality, duplicates content, or is inaccessible, it will not appear in the search results.

Helps to detect service sections of the site and block them from indexing in the robots.txt file.

Check URL status

A tool for tracking the indexing of certain pages by a search robot. You can check whether Yandex knows about a specific page. Just copy the url address into the search bar. The update may take up to several hours.

Important Pages

Yandex provides the ability to monitor the indexing of the most important pages of the site. You can find out about the appearance new page whether it participates or not in search results, etc.

A list of important and popular pages can be seen just below, in the “Recommended Pages” section.

To add pages, simply copy them into the appropriate field and click “follow”.

Re-crawling pages

Helps inform the search bot about new and updated pages. The function is useful when updating text on the site, changing images, etc. In our work, we often use it if we need to remove the site from filters.

Sitemaps

To speed up indexing, a special xml file is used. The document contains the complete structure of the site and the addresses of all pages. How to create such a file, read this article.

Site relocation

Allows you to notify Yandex about a change in the site address. Also used when moving a site to https, changing the main mirror of a site. The tool helps reduce risks when moving to a new domain, maintaining positions and the number of pages in the index *.

* Unfortunately, even if you use this Yandex.Webmaster function, Yandex does not guarantee that positions and all pages will be preserved in the index.

Links section

Contains information about internal and external links to the site.

If you find such links, it is important to correct them. The update occurs after the site is re-indexed by the robot. You can also find broken links using third-party services, for example brokenlinkcheck.com.

A convenient tool for analyzing a site's link profile. We recommend using it together with third-party services, like SE Ranking, MegaIndex, etc. If you can't figure it out, we'll be happy to help. We have this service included in the SEO audit of the site.

If you have a website with a general theme, designed for users from all regions, then you do not need to assign a region. Sites of general topics, such as portals, blogs, etc. may be assigned the status “No regional affiliation”.

A site cannot be assigned the status “Does not have a regional affiliation” if it is dedicated to the products of a specific organization that has a physical or legal address.

Original texts

Instructions on how to work with Yandex Webmaster are ready, if you have anything to add, write in the comments, I will answer all questions :) If you have any difficulties with the installation, contact us, we will set up Yandex and Google Webmaster as part of the service - Search engine promotion of websites.

Using Webmaster Tools, you get excellent, free service to analyze and develop your website. A must have for all webmasters and website owners.

Good day, dear readers!

In this article I will talk in detail about how to add a website to Yandex Webmaster. Here we will briefly touch on search engine promotion: I will explain why resources that have not been added to this service may have big problems in SEO optimization. Well, let's get started.

Yandex Webmaster is a control panel through which you can see a lot useful information and at the same time correct some mistakes, positively influencing the position of your resource. This tool is constantly being improved.

The authors are bringing more and more features to the webmasters panel. For example, using this control panel you will be able to see the most popular queries that bring visitors to your project. Information on the SQI (site quality index), errors, broken links, etc. will also be available there.

By the way, one more significant reason adding your site to Webmaster is access to other applications and services from Yandex. For example, to use the newfangled Turbo pages or connect a resource to Yandex Zen, you will need Yandex Webmaster.

As I said, this tool is very important in terms of search engine optimization. There you will be able to see most of the errors, which means you can easily fix them. The service constantly displays tips that will be relevant specifically to your resource.

For example, if the lion's share of your pages are missing meta tags, then Yandex.Webmaster will immediately notify you about this. The same applies to other common mistakes that often occur in young projects.

Connecting a resource to the Webmaster will not create problems for you; it is done very easily and quickly. You just need to go to the service itself, enter the address and confirm your rights. Next we will look at adding a resource to this tool.

Adding a site to the service

The course is presented as a convenient resource with step-by-step blocks and homework assignments. All training will be carried out under the supervision of competent specialists who will always be able to help or recommend.

Greetings, friends. The development of a new project on the Internet is a whole science, it begins with indexing - this is when search engines learn about new pages and add them to their database. Among all the ways to ensure fast and complete indexing, the first place is adding a site to search engines through special services. Today I will tell you in detail how to add a website to Yandex through the Webmaster panel of this search engine and do the necessary proper operation settings.

Why do you need Yandex Webmaster?

From the very beginning, Yandex Webmaster was created as a tool connecting the site administrator with the search engine - this is the panel through which feedback, where you can see all the changes happening to the resource. Using the panel you can:

  • carry out diagnostics and see errors,
  • see how the robot perceives page data,
  • check what answers the server gives to requests,
  • improve appearance in search results,
  • view indexing results and speed up getting important pages into the index,
  • find out what queries visitors are coming from and the dynamics of clicks,
  • indicate the region of the resource,
  • and more.

As you can see, the range of applications is wide and, even if you have no problems with indexing, you must add your site to Yandex Webmaster.

How to add a site to Yandex

To work you will need an account on yandex.ru, you must have email on this service.

Go to the address - webmaster.yandex.ru

There will be several “Login” buttons on the page, click any.

Webmasters will contact the account you are currently logged into or offer you to log in under any other.

Before the first site appears in the panel, you will see a welcome text and an inviting “Add site” button; subsequently, when connecting new resources, use the plus button at the top of the panel.

The domain address must be entered indicating the protocol (http or https) and the prefix (if you are using a site with www) - formally these are different sites, although they are usually mirrors of each other.

Proof of ownership

Only the owner can see information about a domain and manage it in search results. The next step is to confirm ownership of the resource.

The webmaster panel allows you to do this in three ways:

  1. Meta tag in the page code;
  2. HTML file in the root folder of the site;
  3. DNS record.

The last point is the most complicated, so few people use it and I don’t recommend it.

Option 1. Meta tag

The easiest way is to write a special verification code (meta tag) in the head section. The code is placed right before the closing tag on the main page.

Make changes, click “Check” and, if the Yandex robot finds this code on the page, then the rights will be confirmed.

Option 2. HTML file

The second option is also simple and is suitable for those who are afraid to edit something themselves source code. Need to create text file with a given name and html extension, it starts with yandex_, and then an individual character set. Copy the code from the page inside the file and save.

Then we send the robot for testing.

As a result, you will see a table with a list of users allowed to access information on the site. Initially there is only your login, but if you wish, you can add any other user through “Delegate rights”:

Yandex Webmaster will begin collecting data on your resource and after a while it will be displayed in the panel - you have added the site to the search engine.

Site settings in Yandex Webmaster

The service will do almost everything you need on its own - scan the site, find errors, add pages to the index, and monitor the appearance of new ones, but if you don’t help it, this can take a lot of time.

What you need to do right away:

1. Checking Robots.txt via Yandex Webmaster

This file is responsible for allowing/prohibiting directories and individual site pages from being added to the search database.

To check whether Yandex sees it and how the directives are perceived in the left panel of Yandex Webmaster, find the item “Tools” -> “Analysis of robots.txt”.

Here you will see how Yandex sees the file, which lines are read, check for yourself whether the correct folders are closed, whether important sections are open, whether the xml address of the sitemap corresponds to its actual location (does the protocol match).

You can read how to correctly compose a Robots file in .

2. Adding sitemap.xml to the Yandex panel

Sitemap.xml is a file with a list of links to all resource pages that should be included in the search. By scanning it, search engines determine priority targets for indexing. Particularly relevant this file for large projects.

Adding the file address to the webmaster panel significantly speeds up the indexing of pages.

This tool is located in the “Indexing” item, under the “Sitemap files” link. The first time you will see only an empty form inside - paste the link to the file into it and add it.

After scanning opposite each xml file(there may be several of them) the status and number of links found in it will be indicated.

3. Fast re-indexing of pages

This function is needed to tell search robots which pages need to be reindexed as a priority, for example, after making important adjustments or when new URLs appear.

Located in the “Indexing” -> “Page Re-Crawling” section:

Add URL addresses and click send.

4. Set the regional affiliation of the site

Yandex itself determines to which target audience the resource is broadcast, but it can make mistakes; it is better to set such things yourself. If the resource is not geographically linked, then you should indicate “No region”.

To indicate in Ya.Webmaster, go to the “Site Information” tab, there “Regionality” and click the gear next to the inscription “Webmaster”.

After updating the search database, geotargeting will take effect.

5. Set the case of the site name in the search

The case is responsible for how the URL looks in the search results - capital or lowercase letters. This is especially true for domains containing several words.

By going to the “Site Name Register” item in the “Site Information” menu, you can configure any format for each domain letter.

The address becomes more readable, which has a positive effect on the number of clicks in the search and, accordingly, on promotion.
